  • I am just a regular everyday homeowner, and in this video I am unboxing and reviewing a torch for burning weeds in the yard.
    The MagFire+ torch mt5500 from MagTorch with 500,000 btu.
    This can also be used in the winter to melt ice.

    Great video! In addition to the other safety tips mentioned, I will add: don't walk on an area that you've just burnt. That hot gravel will melt the soles of your shoes, if you're not careful.

    Great tool. I used mine in a lawn replacement. No yard waste to deal with and the new grass is largely free of weeds. Weed seeds hate these things.

      I know, isn't it great! One thing to be careful for is near any good plants, or if you have plastic under the rocks it could melt. But really, I love not pulling weeds now!

    • @robertthrem3382
      @robertthrem3382 3 года назад

      You don't just burn the top you have to heat the gravel up more so the roots are burnt and it lasts longer make sure you keep safety glasses on because if you ever got gravel or cement hot you will know how it explodes

      Have fun! A couple of hints I have learned in the past few years. 1. Wet down any good plants near by that you do not want to get too hot. 2. I have attached a couple of handles to a small piece of plywood.....get it wet so it does not burn easily, and you can completely block the heat from the good plants. Have fun!

    Thank you so much for the follow-up clip! That is ALWAYS missing from these videos! Did you notice any leakage from the threading would you consider throwing on a strip of thread tape? I know that a flare joint really only cares about a tight fit but it looked like the inner thread on the tank may not have been that?

    I've tried the vinegar, bleach and dishwashing liquid formula, 3X within a 7 day period. The dandelions and thistles still survived.
    I'm going to try THIS option next, BEFORE I decide to put in mulch or fake turf!

    Thanks for the video. I bought this exact MagTorch to clear weeds out of the gravel pit next to my driveway, but I'm a little uncertain what to do about the wooden fence. What would you suggest using to shield the fence so I don't accidentally burn it?

    • @dazzlingdaveyoyo
      @dazzlingdaveyoyo  3 года назад +1

      Teksura I took a piece of old plywood, cut it to about 2’ x 4’ and screwed on a couple of handles to it. I get it wet, and have my son block anything I don’t want to get hot. (Fence, good plants, etc)

    • @shannond9945
      @shannond9945 3 года назад +1

      Wetting down fence will certainly help (before, after or both). Cement sheet cladding/lining is also very good at resisting fire, used the same as the plywood mentioned by others. A piece a cement sheet will eventually get brittle, but easier to replace this than your fence.

    • @dazzlingdaveyoyo
      @dazzlingdaveyoyo  3 года назад +3

      It seems to work a lot better when using the high power flame. I don’t have proof of it, but I think it might kill the seeds that haven’t germinated yet down in the rocks. Where as the pilot light might not even kill the roots completely.

What are your thoughts on distance to a house?

    • @dazzlingdaveyoyo
      @dazzlingdaveyoyo  3 года назад

      What I ended up doing when being near spots I didn’t want to get too hot, is using a piece of old plywood.
      I would soak down the plywood with water and make sure that it was wet so it wouldn’t catch fire. And put it in place so that the good thing wouldn’t get burned, and I could burn out all the weeds.

      Do it too late they are tall and hard to battle. I have found over the last year or two to blast them a couple of times during the season…..that really helps. And it’s always fun!

    Would anybody know why my torch will blow itself out when you squeeze the handle/trigger for the gas? It worked fine last year. This year I will light it and it might stay lit but 9/10 times when I give it gas, it will blow itself out. I've tried different levels of having the valves open. I'm made sure everything is tight. I've even cleaned out the hole inside the torch head.

    • @dazzlingdaveyoyo
      @dazzlingdaveyoyo  2 года назад

      I wish I could give you exact advise, but it sounds like you tried what I would recommend.
      Mine blows out if I have the gas flow too high. I adjust the level a bit lower, and then it works fine.
      No other tips from me. Anyone else experience this, and have a fix?
