I think a lot of the R34 has to do with people growing up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when it was in nearly every piece of media and yet the car was completely unobtainable. You just naturally associate the car with fun memories and good times of seeing and experiencing on childhood game or movie.

I love it when Americans try to explain the Skyline to the rest of us, my man, the rest of the world had access to Skyline GT-Rs for decades before they've become legal in the U.S. Some territories even got GT-Rs made for them specifically.
How long does it take Nissan to go from prototype to manufacture though? Generally if they have a giod generational model they are designing and prototyping pretty shortly after the current model hits the manufacture plant. So the R33 could easily have been designed in the tail of the 80s.

When you consider that the 32, 33 & 34 all essentially used the same drivetrain I'd say it's the chassis that's really the main difference between the models.

@@Zerofightervi R32 is different. There are some things that you can interchange between the R33 and R34. Not the R32. I owned a R32 for a long time. It's a whole different beast. R32 has hydraulic systems that were replaced by electronics by the time the R33 dropped. Gear boxes are either upgraded components or completely different in the R34. I could go on but the point stands. Cars typically took 7 years to design back in the day, some still do now, and the R33 was started in the late 80's.

I assure you that if you drop $75k into importing a 20+ year old car, you won't have the same experience unless you drop another $30-50k into rebuilding it as he did which is very risky. R32 is my dream car, there’s only 1 Godzilla. But if I ever get to that point where I can afford a gtr, I’ll most likely get a 34 because this man’s right, they’re just better to drive on the street. If I was building a drag car, etc, it would be a 32, but for a 600hp street car that you can comfortably go to dinner in style in, 34. Not only are they better to drive, but they have a much more modern look to them so my gf won’t think “it’s just a loud noisy old Nissan”.
The best skyline to me is the original GTR with that 2 liter straight 6, drop dead gorgeous body, incredibly light and how it screamed past 8400 rpm with 160 hp in the 70s is unmatched edit 227 to 160hp
Yeah, he's nuts. I've driven a few R34s, and a few GT3s and it's not even close. The R34 GTR really doesn't feel fast. I really have had a "This is why you don't meet your heroes" moment every time I've driven a R34. I've never driven a GT3 RS and thought well that was a let down.

I have a rich neighbor who owns the local gas station and he has a silver r34 with a wing and nice wheels on it. I always slow down to look at it when I drive past lol.

JDM means Japan Domestic market, cars made to be sold in Japan. Even if it’s a Japanese manufacturer it doesn’t mean that all cars they make are meant to be sold in Japan. Can’t believe this is hard to get.
Which means that any car that is or was once sold in japab automatically becomes a JDM car so for most of these, especially the sports cars, this means the term JDM is correct
JDM means that one particular car is designed specifically for Japanese consumers. It could be good or bad. But ultimately it is designed for them. Another wording for it is “Japan spec”.

Datsuns had iron blocks, aluminium heads and four wheel independent suspension in 70s. 240z was more influential than any skyline. There would be no rb with out l24 and l28 engine. Irs(independent rear suspension) in the 240z is lighter and much more simple than irs found in modern cars.

So the experience of driving that particular car is analogous to driving it when it was brand new 25 years ago. So we can make a good comparison between it and a newer car like the GT3RS
Honestly if they made the new gtr similar to this body style but with all the new gadgets and engine components to get the insane power the new ones get then it’d be the best of both worlds.

Looks, it’s hard to deny the R34. It was synonymous with the boy racer scene and after 2fast 2furious and later we associated it with the late legend himself Paul Walker. When it comes to iconic performance and history, it’s the r32. They literally banned it because it was dominating the GT races. Every single race for 2 seasons I think it was, something crazy like that anyways, the r32 won all of them. I feel like the r33 failed because they wanted to take the r32 and make a version for the masses. They didn’t care about legacy too much it feels like. That’s why they went back to the roots for the r34. It’s what the 33 SUOULD have been. Modern and upgraded with legendary performance. The R35 doesn’t count imo as a skyline. Same with the infinity g35 “skyline” if I’m buying a skyline and money isn’t a problem I’m getting a 1983 R30 RS-X, I’m getting a KPGC10 Hakosuka 2 door aka the 1971 2000 GT-R, and I’m getting the OG Godzilla the R32 GT-R.
"The late legend" was a pedo. That said, yes the R32 was very capable, but alot of its racing success outside of Japan came from not being classed properly. The Australian cars it beatwere literally the worst cars ever manufactured on earth, and the touring cars it raced against were not on its market and were generally 4 cyl cars or Na.
Bro that’s crazy. The part in this video when he says “it drives better than my Porche” I know that exact location. It’s in Sorrento Valley, San Diego. I used to go fishing every weekend just ahead of that road, behind some businesses way down the street. Very, crystal clear water for sight fishing Bass and huge bluegill. The R34 is also my favorite car of all time. I’m very happy that there’s people who still keep name alive and well!
I used to hate on 34 GTRs back in 2014 when i had an evo, said they were overhyped.. (was probably a tad jelly tbh). Then i saw one on the road, and i just loved the way it looked, the thing has awesome road presence. Especially in Bayside blue. Then i bought a white one in 2016 when they were still cheap, still have it to this day. Painted it pearlescent black, built the motor, still refreshing the old parts here and there. Longest car i have ever owned. Love it. Also made heaps of cool friends thanks to the car.

A sense of modernism is really nice but I love the older GTRs a lot. There's something about driving an older 70s or 80s car and knowing everything is controlled mechanically that just feels right.
Almost broke my neck the other day seeing the same purple R34 on the road the other day. Something different about seeing it on the road than in showrooms.

JDM means Japan Domestic market, cars made to be sold in Japan. Even if it’s a Japanese manufacturer it doesn’t mean that all cars they make are meant to be sold in Japan. Can’t believe this is hard to get.
Which means that any car that is or was once sold in japab automatically becomes a JDM car so for most of these, especially the sports cars, this means the term JDM is correct

JDM means that one particular car is designed specifically for Japanese consumers. It could be good or bad. But ultimately it is designed for them. Another wording for it is “Japan spec”.

Datsuns had iron blocks, aluminium heads and four wheel independent suspension in 70s. 240z was more influential than any skyline. There would be no rb with out l24 and l28 engine. Irs(independent rear suspension) in the 240z is lighter and much more simple than irs found in modern cars.

So the experience of driving that particular car is analogous to driving it when it was brand new 25 years ago. So we can make a good comparison between it and a newer car like the GT3RS

Looks, it’s hard to deny the R34. It was synonymous with the boy racer scene and after 2fast 2furious and later we associated it with the late legend himself Paul Walker. When it comes to iconic performance and history, it’s the r32. They literally banned it because it was dominating the GT races. Every single race for 2 seasons I think it was, something crazy like that anyways, the r32 won all of them. I feel like the r33 failed because they wanted to take the r32 and make a version for the masses. They didn’t care about legacy too much it feels like. That’s why they went back to the roots for the r34. It’s what the 33 SUOULD have been. Modern and upgraded with legendary performance. The R35 doesn’t count imo as a skyline. Same with the infinity g35 “skyline” if I’m buying a skyline and money isn’t a problem I’m getting a 1983 R30 RS-X, I’m getting a KPGC10 Hakosuka 2 door aka the 1971 2000 GT-R, and I’m getting the OG Godzilla the R32 GT-R.

That said, yes the R32 was very capable, but alot of its racing success outside of Japan came from not being classed properly. The Australian cars it beatwere literally the worst cars ever manufactured on earth, and the touring cars it raced against were not on its market and were generally 4 cyl cars or Na.
Thats the attesa suspension system. There's no other like it. Even the gtir drive amazingly, and handles the curves perfectly.

Bro that’s crazy. The part in this video when he says “it drives better than my Porche” I know that exact location. It’s in Sorrento Valley, San Diego. I used to go fishing every weekend just ahead of that road, behind some businesses way down the street. Very, crystal clear water for sight fishing Bass and huge bluegill.
The R34 is also my favorite car of all time. I’m very happy that there’s people who still keep name alive and well!
I used to hate on 34 GTRs back in 2014 when i had an evo, said they were overhyped.. (was probably a tad jelly tbh). Then i saw one on the road, and i just loved the way it looked, the thing has awesome road presence. Especially in Bayside blue. Then i bought a white one in 2016 when they were still cheap, still have it to this day. Painted it pearlescent black, built the motor, still refreshing the old parts here and there. Longest car i have ever owned. Love it. Also made heaps of cool friends thanks to the car.

A sense of modernism is really nice but I love the older GTRs a lot. There's something about driving an older 70s or 80s car and knowing everything is controlled mechanically that just feels right.
