That's funny. I'm left handed and the 1.6mm is my favorite pen for work. I'm a 1st Grade teacher and love the color options and price point. Very smooth and makes my handwriting look so much better.

I love the 1.6mm blue ones. I used to be a Steadler 430M fan. But recently their ink seems to have changed. It's more of a pale blue, and doesn't have that 'tac' feal to it. The Bic Cristal 1.6mm in blue has a nice ink consistancy, and never fails to write. The ink doesn't last as long as a thinner line, as you'd expect. But it's a fair price to pay. My work pen lasts around a year, and that's more than enough for me.
I have the strong feeling that the bic medium has a not at all intense writing. The flow of the ink is good, but the color is like it is very faded. I wish it's writing was a lot more powerful.
I agree, I thought the same despite buying different packages but the quality is not like it used to be. I remember the crisal 1.0mm being the most versatile pen and becoming a standars for writing, but it was also good for doing doodles and sketches.
If the colours seem faded now to some people, I think it might actually that they have fading colour vision, rather than there being something wrong with the pens! People need to get their eyes checked at the optition's! This sort of thing can be a result of slowly forming cataracts.
I like bic pens becuase they are simple and cheap but my favourite pen at the moment is the Zebra Z-grip Flight. It sounds complicated and fancy but they are actually super cheap I think they are around the same price as the BIC Round Stic

Have you seen the BAUX Pens yet? They are holders for the ink from Bic Pens.. aluminum bodies and can get titanium, aluminum or brass grips..and can get custom text on it as well.. I just ordered one and can’t wait to get it.. can’t seem to find any video reviews on it yet but seems right up your alley!
I remember fine-ball Bic crystals from the 1960s having a yellow (orange?), barrel with colour co-ordinated caps and end caps according to the colour of the ink, to distinguish them from the regular size with clear barrels.
In the UK, you can still get these orange ones, I have a black extra fine one, you can do some seriously tiny writing with that. I used mine to make a label on our cat's collar.
Ben Petersen/Knafs and Big I Design are teaming up on kickstarter for a brass and titanium pen that uses the Bic Cristal insert. It's called the Sancho EDC Pen. In addition to the pen, it also houses a toothpick and tweezers.
thanks a bundle for this informative video. I do allot of note taking, and I use Schneider ballpoint pens. They look nice. But I was just writing with a bic pen and noticed that my handwriting was much better, and the feel of the pen was also way smoother. I then tested the difference to a Schneider ballpoint pen, and there are worlds between them. The bic pen I used is apparently the bic crystal 1mm "extra smooth" variant, which I wouldn't have known if not for this video.
Bic Xtra Comfort has a nib size that is somewhere in between the Xtra Bold and the Extra Smooth. It’s perfect imo. I use the Xtra Comfort refills in the Cristal bodies for the perfect everyday pen.
Recently the 1.0 is the worst of all the BICs when once was the best. I bought plenty cristal 1.0 and their tip and ink is not that crispy black but a gray that fades away the moment you tilt your pen.
I'm looking for the Cristal Original 1.0mm with the blue ink and the blue tip! The USA version is called Xtra Smooth and does not have the nice blue colored tip which matches the blue ink. Do you know of an online retailer I might be able to buy this version of the pen? For now I am taking the refills out of the Round Stick so I can have the blue colored tip, but the fit is just slightly looser than the stock refill. Thanks.
The hexagonal shape of the barrel digs into your fingers. The pen is visually interresting & the clear plastic let's you see the ink level which is always good. It is a nice pen, but the no.1 in the world title seems too good for this pen I think.
Are those the original pens or the ones you buy in the stores now? Apparently Bic used to make the Cristal original pens that had the word original on the package and wrote a lot better than the ones they make now which don't write as well and the ink colors are much too light according to myself and several reviewers. You can buy old originals online but they've been discontinued. Some of them had orange barrels.
I really don't like the 1.6s and really do like the extra fine needle tips. I don't know why those were so short-lived. I stocked up on them but they are pretty dry now.
Are you sure there are just 3 sizes? because when snooping around on U.S. Amazon I've found 5 propertied ball sizes backed up by the boxes the pens come in themselves, which I presume (rightly or wrongly) to be official from Bic (those sizes being in millimeters: 0.7, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.6). I guess this could just be marketing and stretching the manufacturer's definition what constitutes a certain size, but I don't know, and Bic doesn't really help either because they don't give any official Cristal line to check.
Its amazing that these are STILL the BEST true ballpoint pens you can buy!! Great for all writing needs and perfect for drawing! You can get sooo many diff darkness and textures with one of these!
I refer to them as my finals pens. They aren't as fancy or as smooth as my other pens but if you go into a high stress situation in which the pens have to work and work on less-than-ideal paper they're my go to. Also helps that they are both cheap and reliable enough that you really don't need to worry about pushing them. Though since they're not archival I'm not sure about using them on long term things but it'll probably be fine.
