Being nearly 80 years old with arthritis, the absence of the clutch lever, the impossibility of stalling the engine, and the forward pegs all add to perfection for me. So glad I found this bike so I could return to riding.
I’ve got the manual transmission with the fairing and windshield. It’s probably my last bike. I’m old and been riding on the street for 50 years. I’ve had dozens of bikes but this one is perfect for this stage of life. It’s got a low seat height which gives me a lot of confidence. It’s extremely comfortable and smooth. It’s peppy, feels as light as a dirt bike, and gets great mileage.
I love my ctx700ND 2015 model. It actually saved my rear end, literally and figuratively. Was sitting at a red light 3 days fresh from msf. saw in my rear a truck heading my way not slowing down, light turned green when the truck was about 3 car lengths away still not slowing. Gunned it and was safe. I am willing to bet had I been on a manual I would of panic stalled and got rear ended and probably hurt.
Man. Sometimes drivers are not seeing other objects on the road. I am going to the class in September. I think the hi-vis helmet or clothes will help others seeing me from a distance.
In 2013 I purchased a new 2014 Honda CTX700ND in black. Awesome bike. I put about 10K miles on it in two years then sold it to get my daughter a car. Then in 2020 I began my search for another CTX700. This time I purchased a used 2015 CTX700 DCT in blue with the fairings. The bike only had 465 miles on it. Got it for $4200. Very nice bike. The DCT is a really great transmission. This was not my first bike, but the CTX700 DCT would be a great first bike. Great review. Hope you post more videos on the CTX. I also have a Kawasaki Versys X300.
My motorcycle journey -- started late in life -- was Honda Grom -> Honda CTX 700ND -> Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 -> Honda ST 1200 -> Honda CTX 700D. Getting back into a CTX felt like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes. It was just right and I can see myself keeping this thing forever. Love it.
Recent grad of MSS and new rider here. Haven’t bought a bike yet but have been actively looking and researching a lot. I passed my MSS on a grom and while i really love that bike, it’s manual. My shifts are rough but with time I’m sure they’d get better. My issues was stalling after coming to a stop or leaving from a stop. After I passed, i said i wanted nothing to do with a manual bike. I found myself still looking at some manual bikes but with assist/slipper clutches, ride by wire, quick shifter, and ones that could be fit with rekluse clutches to make them automatic. However, the one common thing that remains after all this research that i realized was, ‘why am i trying to make a manual bike fit me?’ - i’m trying to see what bikes i can do automatic on basically. So why not just go for the automatic is what i’m telling myself. The pickings for automatic are slim especially if you don’t want a cheap chinese bike and i don’t b/c they don’t typically last. I’ve shopped electric and while they have their perks, they’re very pricy. Honda def is the king of DCT however, don’t count out Aprilia - they came out with the Mana which was like a DCT but it’s a CVT. It’s automatic, efi, 850cc and it was also offered in 1000cc. I actually am considering a Mana 850 as a first bike - fingers crossed when i sit on it, that it works cuz i haven’t done that yet. The things you mentioned about all the brakes and controls pretty much being on the right side and all the shifting for manual mode being on the left w/ the CTX, on the mana - they have the up shift on one side, and the downshift on another side. That bike has a manual mode as well. I didn’t know you had so much freedom with the manual mode on the CTX. I thought like most, you just switch into it and that’s what you drive but it seems like the CTX still helps there too in case you screw up somehow. Because of my size (5’6, 197lbs, and 31’ inseam) - i can’t handle the African twin or the nc750x b/c they’re huge. The rebel 1100 DCT i can fit but it’s a lot of bike and i prefer the naked stuff right now. Honda makes the Navi which is a 110cc carb’d bike - it looks similar to a grom. I really wish honda had efi’d this bike and not carb’d it, cuz i would buy it. I don’t want to mess with carb’s. I know the grom is one of their best selling bikes, but i really would love if they came out w/ a DCT version of it or at least a CVT. There are ppl who want to ride motorcycles but they don’t want to shift, if honda did more DCT miniMoto - i think you’d see some more ppl getting into it idk. We def need more automatics on the market then what we got. SSR makes some but they’re dirtbikes. There are other brands that make them (mostly grom clones) but they’re chinese made. Not reliable from what i am told. Honda dominates the DCT market. My research tells me that Harley offered an optional 6 spd auto for their street 500 bike but good luck finding one. I’m building my automatic cycle list over here. If the Mana turns out to not work out for me, idk what i will do but pretty sure i will end up with a honda.
this is my first ride, bought it with 150 miles or so on it, some keep telling me it isn't fit to be a entry bike but i love it. definitely a lot to learn but its so much fun to ride took a little spill on it and only lost a mirror. it has made learning easier. though i do want to learn manual. thanks for making this vid!
Thank you so much! - for showing the details of the DCT, I found a silver 700N with only 1700 miles. I probably better learn this way and forget the clutch. Paying attention to the automatic will also teach me, I see now. Other, people, traffic is my only "anxiety" so if I could focus on that I might be able to stop being freaked out in traffic. My clutch operation, starting and stopping and stalling is the issue, seems like it's going to take me forever to master :( This seems like the answer and better for an older person struggling with strength and possible health issues in the future. Looks like I found my bike ...thanks again
I have this bike and Rebel 1100 dct been riding for 17 years . I have had Harley Davidson and just about every other model bike you can think of out there I enjoy riding one thing I figured out over the years is he just can’t beat the reliability of a Honda I’m sorry to say, but they blow everything out of the water when I was a police officer before I medically retired our department got to Honda we never had any problems out of them like we did the road kings
FYI (after 3yrs this video popped up): In drive mode if you give it the beans it will temp auto switch to sport mode. Also the seat location and shape encourage leaning back and almost straight arming/hanging off handle, which works but takes more effort to turn. But if you lean forward it places your weight and arms in a position that makes the bike very easy to handle at slow speeds and tight curves.
This was my first bike after moving up from a Honda silverwing (300cc maxi scooter). Rode it to CA from Ga and did well over 70k miles on it great bike never let me down. Now I'm selling it for a Africa twin 1000, I like Hondas 😂.
I am definitely considering a used one of these in addition to my Honda ADV150, for when my sportbike friends want to go on highway cruises. Seen a few in my area in nice shape around $4k
I have the 700n in manual transmission. Hondas service schedule is not needy. Motor is smooth as a sewing machine until you hit 6th gear it vibes/rumble a bit.
I wanna make this my first ever bike. I’ve rode a scooter before 180cc and that was enough to make me want this for days I don’t drive my car. Plus you don’t have to shift!
I have the faired manual 14 got it month ago. Wish little bigger gas tank. Gotten 218 miles so far still had little gas left. BUT hate the gas gauge drops to fast 147 miles till start blinking. My 1st manual love it. Had scooters and fist motorcycle look like scooter was automatic Yamaha Morphous
I'm intrigued as to why the storage compartment on the CTX is so much smaller than that on the NT. I've only recently started riding and have come to appreciate the idea of a storage compartment for your wallet/ parking card/ gloves etc right in front of you rather than have to mess around behind you with top box/ panniers. I think the NT 'tank' was actually big enough to store a hemet, I might be wrong... Thanks for the info anyway!
I’m very close to purchasing a 2014 CTX with the DCT. Only got into riding a year ago. I’ve ridden a manual before but the DCT seems like a more enjoyable riding experience, especially since I live in a suburban town with a lot of stop lights and such. For now, I only plan to ride locally around town. How highly would you recommend this bike? Awesome video too btw
Thanks! If you ride a lot of city, I highly recommend the DCT. If you're at least 5'5", however, I would also recommend the NC700 or 750. More fun, more comfortable (in my opinion, others would prefer the CTX), faster, more storage, and more capability. But the CTX has been a great inexpensive bike and great to learn on, especially for shorter riders.
2014 and 500 miles?! What? This bike spent it's life sitting inside the garage. Lying idle definitely takes a toll on parts. Especially with the complex dual clutch automatic.
I REALLY like the idea of this bike! I want a cruiser, but not as big and heavy as most cruisers, and I'm really impressed at the fuel economy (although I was greatly disappointed to learn the Really Big Fuel Tank was not a fuel tank at all!). But I'm concerned about the "automatic transmission". Do you have to hold the brake when you're stopped? Even in Manual Mode?
How would a bike like this handle for bigger riders? I’m 6’3, 260 lbs and want a cruiser-style bike I can learn on, but one that’s still powerful enough to haul my big ass around pretty well.
Only in the US would this even be mentioned as a beginner bike. It is way too heavy for that at 500 lb, as your gal will find out when she drops it in a parking lot or stop light. There’s a reason the MSF courses use 250 bikes. I think I am fairly typical for a CTX owner at 73 years old. It is my tenth bike. I added the floorboards to my 2015 DCT faired model and a Madstad windshield. Although slow by crotch rocket standards, it is plenty spirited for me, going 0-60 in about 6 seconds. With my factory hard bags and a Givi top box, it is a very nice middleweight cruiser. My son calls it the Baby Wing.
You need to adjust your camera placement. It looks like you have it mounted on your chin, so whenever you're looking at something or pointing something out we can't actually see it, we see just below whatever you were trying to show us. Instead, try to mount it where your camera is actually upside down hanging from your chin so that way you can actually angle it more upward so what we'll see will actually be more in line with what your eyes see. If you're not sure what I mean, take a look at Yammy Noob's video about getting into moto vlogging. Otherwise, nice vid!
Yo, I've been riding my NM4 V1 for a while now, and let me tell you, the DCT is amazing! But, a few months back, when it was about 10 years old, I had a bit of an issue. The gear would disengage while I was riding, which was super annoying. But, I got it fixed by changing the shift control motor, and now it's running like a dream!😊
how tall are you? will this be too small for me im close to 6'2 i want to be able to ride sitting up straight and arms extended will i be able to do that on this motorcycle?
is 20k miles alot for a motorcycle what would it be equivalent to car mileage like a 100k? i can get this same bike for around 3800 too much or still good deal?
I am considering buying a used CTX700n dct. Did you determine when riding the bike that the automatic shifting felt smooth? The used bike that I test rode the shifting felt like the transmission was struggling once you go into speeds of 35 mph and above.
Have a Honda PCX and honestly is way more practical than this. Carries about 3 bags of groceries too, and over 100 miles per gallon. Was thinking about this, but why even bother with the PCX.

If you gonna cruise at 65 mph and do not take it to the high way, a scooter do that just fine and even much much quicker. You need to ride it to its full potential not just cruising in town like a bicycle.

I respect your opinion, and just like i believe everyone who drives cars should at least learn to drive a manual. But for me, i just prefer automatic so its one less thing to think about.

Nope, no brake when you're stopped! Transmission automatically "pulls the clutch" for you

,We love automatic here in philippines ,all motor here 90 percent is automatic,the problem is we dont have like that. Naked or bigbike but automatic,pls make 120k !!! Cant afford all filipinos.i tell you all scoter is will remove ,coz bigbike automatic is amazing but the prize cant afforD😭😭😭
If you gonna cruise at 65 mph and do not take it to the high way, a scooter do that just fine and even much much quicker. You need to ride it to its full potential not just cruising in town like a bicycle.

I don't agree that automatic motorcycles are the perfect beginner bike. One must start with a manual. There's no question. Just my opinion though.
@bluemoonrider143 plus I'm lazy lol sometime in the near future, I'll do the course that lets me get the certificate to be able to ride. I never driven a motorcycle before but excited to start, and this bike seems to be right for me lol
I respect your opinion, and just like i believe everyone who drives cars should at least learn to drive a manual. But for me, i just prefer automatic so its one less thing to think about.
