  • Desert West opened in 1997. It was the first concrete skatepark in Arizona. Skateboarders raised the money, worked with the city and designed it. This was a milestone for AZ skateboarding and paved the way to open more parks. On May 31st, Desert West Turns 20!!! Filmed by Rebekah Hall and Tim Vasquez. Additional filming Jackson Casey. Edited by Tim Vasquez.

That's so Cool!!! I haven't skated the park much since it was built. Initially there were a lot of problems, mainly with the transitions, and some of the coping, so I was disappointed when I skated it. ( I say problems cause if something's being built just for skating, why not let skaters have some insight on how it's built?) I'm pushing 40 years old now, and I took 26th out of 45, in the 13-18 unsponsored class at the very first contest to raise money to build the park. Fun times!!! 39.5mm wheels Biotch!!!
