Flyquest vs TL throughout the year was not only great content but it really improved our region at the top. I really hope next year both teams show up and continue improving it was amazing watching an N.A. team fight like they had a spine, I’ve been waiting decades it feels like.
Ive been watching since league started it felt like ive waited fucking 11 years to see NA throw a punch at an international level and it was amazing to see
Not exactly part of the Episode, but hearing Dom and Yamato do ads is kinda nice ig…literally the only show where I do not automatically skip through the ads XD
I'm so so so happy for Mithy. He's so smart, he's so prepared and got so much experiences in all situations. He knows so much about the game and he's clearly a fantastic coach, but at lot of people so soft can't handle the way he communicate those ideas and that's why he might work better as an assistant coach, but man i so happy for him for Winning LCS, to pushing LCS into the highest level of play on international stage. I hated how Mithy received so much hate during C9 and how those brainless morons and their fans there blame him for everything went in reality were just the players there being to egomaniacs who were so unwilling to follow the coach ideas, instructions and execution of the plans and yet he was the only one getting axed went Berserker wasn't listening to coaches or Vulcan or anyone at all, Jojo being Jojo, Fudge being his own thing thinking he knows better than Mithy, Vulcan being the only one who respected Mithy and was following his plans of how to play the game and Blaber being a pussy allow everyone to push him around instead of just sticking to the plan and enforcing Mithy direction and supporting Vulcan calls. I feel so validated and happy for Mithy seeing how hard C9 flopped without him and showcasing how it wasn't Mithy fault. It was the players there non wanting to be coached. So happy he joined a team where his voices is being respected, his ideas are being listen to and his teaching is being follow by Busio who improved tremendously into making a great case to be the best support at NA and Massu who looked like a top 5 ADC in the world and the lessons from Mithy are being enforced by fantastic vetarans like Bwipo and Inspired who make sure the team is following the gameplan. Blaber and Vulcan can learn a ton about leadership from Bwipo and Inspired.
I think its less on the players and more on the fact mithy was the ONLY coach there. How is one guy meant to synergise 5 players, come up with drafts, come up with strategies, balance conflicts etc. I think mithys clearly smart about the game but the circumstances didnt allow him or the players to shine. C9 will have learned massively this year that a proper coaching structure is the most important aspect of the team.
As he said all teams should be good, I think NA should just have some regional coaches that try to find game tactics and strategies all the time and share this with the teams. Not all teams can afford that many coaches or more than 2 coaches even. To me even very talented challenger players can beat the best team in the world if they are coached the right way so coaching is the most important.
The only thing I want to know is if anyone thinks fly quest should have had massu go mid as Kalista and let yone be bot alone or 2 vs 2. a Ziggs can never pressure yone. And Kalista would have been more difficult for smolder. That’s obviously mega hindsight but could that have been a possibility ?
Even if it works in theory there's no way you can first-time something like that on stage. Massu doesn't lane mid, Quad doesn't lane bot, neither one has practiced the relevant matchup before. Maybe if it's Caps-Perkz type of insane players against a weaker team, but vs. GenG you shouldn't take that kind of risk. Like Nukeduck said, with Chovy even if he's supposed to be behind in lane he just won't be.
I definitely agree with Dom and Nuke that going 3-0 through Swiss is a detrement. You don't get to be involved in the meta evolution happening in live games, you get rusty, and you go in to your next match way to confident, especially in Gen G's case. I actually think going 3-2 vs Fly is going to help them in their T1 series.
My prediction is that in the next international tournament everyone will hype Flyquest to the moon and then they get splat against the wall by the first eastern team they encounter because it turns out the GenG series was a glitch. Flyquest did play very well in the third game and in the forth/fifth they were alright. GenG straight up inted several times in the first game, it's like they wanted to lose. If only we had double elim, we would know for sure. Now everyone can gas themselves up based on one outlier series for a few months. But it's the next encounter that'll tell us more.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this be a symptom of being in NA? From my experience a lot of Americans use the word 'like' a lot or use it in places it shouldn't be.
Also this tournament really showed to me how important your region to push you is. G2 never got pushed in the mid to late game. In the early game they were that’s why it looked better into Asian teams then fnatic. Fly got pushed by tl laneswaps and c9 good laning phases. And chovy got pushed by playing against zeka yone with smolder. And my god if your not on zeka yone level chovy absolutely takes advantage of you. There is a reason why dom called for it in game 4 that fly quest should not take the yone bait in game 5.
Once again your sponsors arent really selected for places outside the US... This time they atleast ship to Europe, but you dont get 20% off with the link (ofc you dont get free shipping, but i wasnt expecting that anyways) Apart from that this was probablly one of my least favourite episodes, Nukeduck just didnt feel as in sync with you guys than other guests (still liked the selection, I remember him as the fizz god in S3) Ah yes and obviously I ask for Svenskeren as your next guest :]
General trend that most sponsors are US only. Maybe they have analytics that show EU fans don't buy their shit but there haven't been many opportunities. I would try LiquidIV for example but just can't.
T1 going 1/19 vs Gen.G in scrims is mental! It's always so impossible to not pick Gen.G over them in pickems. But it's T1 right? so it's kinda like a 50/50
TL were being anointed (even by dom) as the best in the West.. even before playoffs.. like granted G2 looked horrible in summer but they had already won LEC and TL hadn't even played a game in summer playoffs by that point.. They looked good into T1 a couple times.. (still lost).. I didn't get it.. lets be honest despite going down to 8 teams.. the LCS is still trash outside of them and Flyquest.. so them out macroing LCS teams.. a lot of the time with laneswaps didn't mean much to me.. its like G2 in LEC.. who was going to challenge them? especially once they had leads (usually from lane swaps) Once a team like Flyquest actually challenged them on the map.. they snuck a 3-2 win (in which Bwippo played horribly) and then lost 3-1 That's another thing.. Impact winning MVP is a HUGE red flag to me if you want to be successful internationally.. this guy is serviceable internationally on tanks.. but even then i have seen him smashed by some of the best Tops he's faced (zeus/Wunder etc).. The LCS tops.. even his biggest competitors (Bwippo/Sniper) would do horrific things in lane vs him.. like letting Ksante push you into turret.. and then having a Ksante on the map 2k up on everyone.. Even in finals Bwippo had a horrible game on Urgot.. and then vs any decent team would have lost the game he played renekton.. used TP.. then just died level 1 Put team synergy aside.. and look at individual player level.. compare TL to the 2 other top Western teams in G2/Flyquest.. Which players would you take from TL and put on those teams? Correjj>Busio (IDK about this) Yeon>Hans.. Hans in lane/kill lanes is probably better then both Massu/Yeon but later on? he's the most anti clutch adc i have ever seen.. and i'd take Yeon/Massu over him any day.. because if G2 got in positions like they did with them.. i'd imagine they could actually carry some fights.. I can't remember hans carrying many fights unless he was massively ahead on stuff like Kalista/draven I think Fly and G2 topside is/was significantly more talented then TL's.. TL solo laners have champion puddles in comparison to G2/FLY also.. its not surprising to me they couldn't beat Eastern teams (0-3 in series vs LPL this year).. Even vs GAM/PNG sure these teams aren't very good macro wise (and TL eventually leveraged this) but individually these 2 teams were comparable to TL Like maybe if it was some Asol, Ziggs, Taliyah meta with tanks toplane they could have done something.. but to me they have to look at midlane if they want to do better internationally.. you cannot just pray that the meta is good for you.. Like how the fk can APA not play Yone or Aurora to a good enough level that opposing team doesn't have to ban it? this issue almost cost a far better team in BLG.. but at least Knight then showed he could be good on Yone a week later.. TL was in EU for weeks before worlds even started.. surely APA could have picked up one of them?
Everyone complaining about the TL hype are giga self reporting lmfao. The eye test passed so fucking hard for that period. Ofc i guess if you were a time travelling wizard you'd be able to predict their mental collapse at worlds but I seriously doubt it so I'll just see you as you are, a bumbling buffoon with a severe case of Dunning-Kruger.
Nice essay. I am always sceptic and I don't trust the teams like Liquid, because they are only playing well against weak teams in their own region, which means nothing later on at worlds.
Why yamato so stuck on the anti crazy picks narrative, its obvious that the picks them self dont win the game , and you need fundamentals and macro and basics to even get close to asia, but those picks are being picked because they are good spots for that and throw off the asian team and give advantages in them game. Obviously ramming nocturne ori or ahri vi into asian will never work for a bo5 agaimst asia.
Because it is actually NOT obvious that the picks themselves don't win the game. Quite frankly, many people who are saying "keep picking weird champs into eastern teams and just win" don't really have it in their minds that FLY fundamentally played very well in some of those games, which is why Yamato continues to talk about it.
It's Interesting to hear Nukeduck's perspective. But brother, stop using filler words... it is okay to gather your thoughts and take a second to construct a sentence. LLLLLLLLLLLLLIKKKKKKKKKE

5 coaches should be the standard
1 HC
1 ex competent pro player for botlane
1 positional coach for Mid,Jungle and top.
5 coaches is much IMO. most teams can't afford that.
1 HC, 1 performance coach, 1-2 positional coaches maybe if the team has rookies
@@eVill4203 positional coaches makes sense to me. One for solo lane, one for jungle, one for bot.
