  • Ok so latest possible mistake. 2010 VW Golf MK6 GTD with some form of immobiliser fault.
    Car previously CAT C in 2016 repaired and in use until September 2020, since then it hasn't had an MOT so may have been parked up. Previous owner claims the battery went flat and since then the car won't start.
    Brand new battery fitted, tried to read codes, no communication.
    Key in ignition, turn ignition on and the car displays "button for driver assistant defective" and then "brake fault", the latter I have seen on an Audi A3 with an immobiliser fault requiring the clocks to be fixed. Try to start the car and it runs for a second then cuts out which does indicate an immobiliser fault however no immobiliser light is shown on the dash, possible internal fault?
    OBD port not working so investigated fuses and found fuse 1 in the dashboard fuse module blown, from my info fuse 1 supplies MAF sensor, OBD port and PCV heater element. Fitted a new fuse and tried to communicate, still nothing. Tried to start the car, same symptoms and the fuse blows shortly after the "brake fault" is displayed.
    Removed the clocks believing there is an internal fault. New fuse fitted with the clocks removed and this time it doesn't blow when the ignition is switched on and the car still starts for a second then cuts out. Does this actually suggest a fault with the clocks or does it suggest a fault with something after the clocks that doesn't blow the fuse with the clocks removed?
    Any help much appreciated, it was a poor decision of mine to buy this car with currently 4 other cars on the go so I'm a little annoyed with myself however hopefully I'll learn something and can pass on the experience.

    I had the same fault on my wifes 63 plate golf convertable. I wouldnt start or connect to a computer to see faults. I removed the gateway module which on mine was under the panel beneath the wiper motor. It was wet and signs of corrosion. I dried it out, used an old toothbrush to clean away the green corrosion and after leaving it indoors over nite, refitted and now the car starts. There are some other warning lights on the dash but now I can move it. Just got to find where the water is getting in now but very happy I found your video. Thanks

      I’ve encountered this issue yet again on a 2008 Eos. This time 2 of the pins have corroded off completely so I’ve bought another module. I aren’t sure if the water is condensing on the windscreen and somehow running down the wiring harness into the gateway. I can’t see a leak causing the issue in the position it’s in. Such a ridiculous fault to be having on cars really.

    After golfwagen channel, I think this is the second best or even the no 1 channel which goes in detail when clarifying issues

    I had this same issue too. I’d stupidly stuffed a freshly cut hedge in the boot to take to the tip the following day and car got steamed up by morning and then would start, but not keep running. After days and days of not working lots of research seemed likely that it was damp in the ECM behind the dials. As a lst chance before sending it off for a diag & repair, I opened the doors and left it in the sunshine all day, and after a couple of days (obviously closing doors at night) of doing this it started first time, no problems since.

      I’d be wary of long term damage though. There could still be an amount of water sat in the module that’s just not high enough to reach the circuit board. I’m glad you got sorted though and hope it keeps working.

    After using diagnostic scan tool run the following method listen below:
    1.Check the HPF - high pressure fuel pump and the fuel injectors and see the flow of the fuel 2. Clean the throttle body and Turbo .
    3. Check for any leaks in the pipelines
    4.Check and remove carbon build up from engine
    4.Change filter and oil
    6. Make sure your voltage and your battery is good.
    7. Check your ignition switch
    8. Check fuel pump
    9.Check and replace Spark Plugs and ignition Coil

      This error turned out to be the Gateway Module.

    I have the same issue on my car, clocks were sent off, repaired and refitted. Started and then the next day same again 🤦🏼‍♂️ I have a 2007 gt tdi 170hp. I’m gonna change the gateway module next week, hopefully that sorts it!
    Will update here soon.
    Do you know if you need a specific serial number from the gateway module? Before I order one on eBay haha

      On this car it was the gateway module which is behind a panel underneath the drivers side wiper motor. It was full of water despite no sign of water ingress.

    Hi (UK Based)
    I have a 2010 VW Golf Mk6 2010 1.6Tdi.
    Was driving my car last night, came to red lights and the car just cut out bringing up ESP Fault on the dash; resulting in the car not starting at all; not even turning over.
    Had it recovered home & I’ve had a mobile auto electrician come out and spent the full day looking at it however he was unable to diagnose a fault.
    When doing a code scan, several codes coming up saying “no communications with ECM” which wont clear.
    Also the radiator fan wont stop even when car is locked, the only way to stop the fan from working is by removing the RELAY in the fuse box under bonnet
    Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

    I think mo is talking about the body control module wich is above the brake pedals when you look up, its probably dangerous but chuck a 20 amp in there instead and wait for the smoke

      It was the gateway module, I’ve replaced it and the car is fixed.

    Did you have to recode anything on the new one?

    • @IAMASPANNER

      The car worked straight away after replacing the gateway module. See my other videos. You could use diagnostic equipment to programme what options the car had though such as parking sensors and led tail lights.

    I have this problem with my VW SCIROCCO, mechanic determined it was a bad camshaft position sensor.

    • @IAMASPANNER
      @IAMASPANNER  2 года назад

      How did they determine that? Is the OBD port working on your car?

    • @TizTommy
      @TizTommy 2 года назад

      @@IAMASPANNER Yeah he had his machine plugged in the OBD port in order to get the code. When the car started then died he was still able to get the code. Not sure on the actual code number he retrieved but it was definitely the camshaft position sensor. He took a look at the sensor and said it was full of dirt so it's likely the sensor is faulty. I'll be getting it replaced next month so I'll keep you updated if it clears the issue. It seems to be when the engine is up to temp and has been driven for a while. When it does happen I can even rev it briefly, seems to have the power but dies regardless, super annoying!!

    • @IAMASPANNER
      @IAMASPANNER  2 года назад

      Sounds like a different issue then, on this car it was the gateway module full of water! Hope the sensor works for yours.
