yes, azumas has diesel-electric mode

Yes - a diesel engine generating power for the electric motors. Where overhead wires are available the train could also run without the engine

It runs on electric under the wires and where there aren't wires it uses diesel

What kind of diesel engine has it got. Does it have the same engine as the GWR Class 802. And the Class 800 are lot faster than the Class 802.

Both 802s and 800s have MTU 12V 1600 R80L engines, except the ones in the 802s provide 940hp per engine while the 800s provide 750hp
