Well researched... can see lots of effort went into putting this together. Thanks!

thank you so much for watching and commenting! luckily I already knew a bit about medieval culture from uni, so most of the effort went into trying out some new editing techniques. I've been listening to the covers on your channel and they're all amazing 😍

@@MimiMortmain Thanks... we try! It is so true that we don't really know for sure what early medieval music really sounds like. Hymns and chants are sung in churches and I believe there's a large body of music in the villages lost to time, though some may have passed down as nursery rhymes and folk music. Personally, I am influenced by Clannad, Baltimore Consort, etc, and also watched medieval/ancient music channels like Peter Pringle and Arany Zoltan for pointers. :)

I think the mystery of not knowing is part of the fun!

@ 2:54 Is that why its called the ‘Middle Ages’, because it’s between those two things

Yes, exactly! Plus the word medieval comes from the Latin words for Middle Ages. It’s not an idea way to describe the time period, but it’s definitely better than calling it the Dark Ages…

Beedle the bardcore did a cover of the song ‘Yeah’ by Usher: someone once commented ‘There’s no proof that this wasn’t a medical song at one point’

One thing that I have always wondered about when listening to these instrumentals is how the lyrics would be modified to also make them sound medieval. As far as I know they only modify the instrumental but not the lyrics.

There’s a whole subgenre of bardcore that translates the lyrics to Medieval English with varying degrees of accuracy, like Hildeguard von Blingin. No one can say that learning Middle English is a useless skill!!!

Yeah those are not medieval at all go listen to the bardcore vs real medieval music video, is over 1h long but you'll understand a lot about it, right now what if we want to make them sound like ancient and early medieval music we need to over use the phrigian note that gives it the most oriental sound we can get. Thus creating something we can name oriental bardcore, and if we add the fifths and fourths overuse in the vocal parts... Muah, chef kiss
