    So I have the weldy HT 1600 hot air welder is my problem with Pendulum and Welding HDPE that I’m using round rod instead of flat? I can’t seem to get it to flatten out even though I’m pressing really hard and have the correct angle? it’s also 3/16 inch round rod it’s really thick stuff the speed Welding works well but Pendulum Welding is really an issue should I be using a flat rod instead of round?

      Don't worry about trying to flatten a round rod out when welding. Generally speaking, no matter which rod shape you start with, the shape of the weld will be whatever the outside shape of the rod is. If you want flat, you can always go back and reheat the weld with your Weldy and smooth it out using a 6031 tip in your airless welder. If you want to end with a flatter weld without doing extra work, just use a rod like the R04-04-xx-xx rod, which is also easier to use when free-hand welding. www.polyvance.com/search.html?query=r04-04 (FYI, there are many pages of that profile in this link, not just bulk qty)

    One question: do you heat only the plastic strip or both at the same time to carry out the repair?

    • @polyvance
      @polyvance  2 года назад +4

      Both! You need to melt the rod and the part at the same time and apply some downward pressure to fuse the two plastics together. You must be using filler rod that matches the base material to make a fusion weld.

      @@polyvance how interesting! Thank you very much for the information, if I had known before, I would have bought a thermofuser instead of a staple welder, I think this method you used to be more efficient besides leaving a better finish. Thank you again!

    Are there inexpensive heating tools that the average person can buy to do this repair? I have a RV holding tank that has a small crack. A new tank is $300 and would like to buy the tools to repair it.

    • @scottb7600
      @scottb7600 Год назад

      First, find out what type of plastic the tank is made from, then call Polyvance. Polyvance has a consumer level plastic welder for just about everything.

    • @polyvance
      @polyvance  Год назад

      Yes. We have several airless welding kits available: www.polyvance.com/Airless-Welders-1/
      The KC Welder Pro (www.polyvance.com/Airless-Welders-1/KCWPRO/) comes with PE welding rod, which was the plastic filler rod we used in this video. Again, it's important to match the filler rod and the base material. So just check for the ID symbol on the tank before purchasing a kit.
      If it is XLPE, it cannot be fusion welded.
      Please feel free to call us if you have any questions.

    Why sand when it’s out of sight ?

    • @polyvance
      @polyvance  Год назад

      You don't have to sand the weld. It just depends on the appearance you want.
