Am I wrong, or is there some deeper meaning to these films from Dark Horse Pictures? This one, GodMachine seems to be about more than people living underground waiting for earth to be reformed. In a sense, are we living underground already? In the prisons of our own making in our own minds? Waiting for something better, greater, when it's up to us to create it ourselves? Maybe God created us so we would create. Question may be, can we or will we create better or destroy ourselves? Very interesting films from you folks. And well made.
Yes it's more than about people living underground. You're on the right track with survival, God, religion and that "we're already living underground" - yes it's an allegory. Thanks for being thoughtful about it.
It’s so painfully obvious it’s pointing at religion and how it’s been used to keep people from expanding their world view and living “underground”. The religious figure try’s to control his flock and use all types of manipulation and fear tactics to do so. How could you miss the lazy play on heaven being “uploading to the cloud”… the religious leader who is the only one able to supposedly understand the code. The acting was hard to suffer through, I mean these people tried way too hard to express emotion and over complicate every line. So much more could have been done with a more vague script, that unfolds slowly rather than giving you the real meaning and hidden message right from the start. So much more could have been done if the conditions felt more desperate and dark. An element of horror could have even been added. I assume the deeper in the tunnel you go the darker and more unsettling it would be, or the longer time spent wasted under the control of the the zealot the more depraved and primordial you and your outlook would become. There was nothing stopping him from walking to the edge all along to at least get some sense or get a peak all along. Also, doing nothing at all was somehow an option that would have only brought forth a mediocre existence. At no point was anyone else convinced of what the old man had to say. It might as well been the town drunk rambling none of it held any weight in this setting.
@@Muchenikov It's been a year since I watched the film so I don't really remember it very well. I do seem to remember the acting not being that great. I can overlook that in a film if it has something interesting to convey. Some underlying message that might be of importance, at least to me. Interesting what you took from it. Thanks for the reply.

Is this based on a novel?
No but I'm actually working on a novelization - so that I could expand the world, include things I wasn't able to film.
Please let me know when novel available an if you make prequel or sequel to this short film
