Premier surrounded himself with greatness. Every person he mentioned that he hung around with was a huge addition to the hip hop community. Great interview.
Marco Williams the interview was pretty much on cruise control because Preem is always such a great guest full of history. The hosts really didn't do much. Envy did the least.
Definitely was greatest HIPHOP producer at one point. his back catalogue is nothing to be fucked with...albums that have shaped hiphop. his production embodies that dope bboy shit aka HIPHOP. all your favorite producers acknowledge premo as the greatest. but personally I'd say it's between pete rock and premo
DJ fucking Premier....what more can you say about the dude?.....listening to this interview is like reading the bible of hip hop or something.....damn near everything that has happened in the game he is connected to it in some way....soooo much information and knowledge you can pick up from Preme....and after all the success he's had, dude is the most humble you will ever see....shout to a legend!
I'm glad he shouted out havoc man. Iv always thought he was one of the most underrated producers of all time. He made some of the grimiest beats of all time
you hear how many times he mentioned *school* and *college* ? let the young ones pay heed... hip-hop was what it was because of intelligent educated street smart brothers...
affane78 a lot of these guys go to school or were very smart in high school. It's just that the tired narrative of dropping out and being so focused on the streets and nothing else is basically a cliche for hip hop.
met this guy downtown at an NYC studio. Such a nice guy. I remember when he had to step out, he asked me if i needed anything from the store....i was like, WTF! "youre premier! i need to be going to the store for YOU! lol"
DJHannibalRoyce dude please tell me where his studio was. this is a serious post. I heard that his studio is in Astoria but i need to know where. my boy is a rapper and needs exposure.
So sad that people don't believe that some can meet a "famous" person as if they're ghosts who move around on and spectral plane haha. I would take it as a compliment that someone finds my life unbelievable though.
I wish we could go back into time together and witness the amazing moments we had working at Soundwaves in Houston, Texas. Never changed, he's same man he was when I first met him years ago. Thank you for the shout out.......friends to this day. Hip Hop living legend! Respect!
Legendary super producer DJ Premier on TBC!!! A pioneer in Hip Hop. Him & the late great Guru, made soulful jazzy Hip Hop as Gang Starr. This man has produced CLASSICS for Geto Boys, Group Home, KRS-One, Rakim, Kool G Rap, Nas, AZ, Jay-Z, Biggie, Buckshot (Black Moon), D.I.T.C. Big L, Fat Joe, Mobb Deep, Jadakiss, Common, Kanye West, Royce Da 5'9, Bun B, Ludacris, The Game, etc.... Premier drum kicks & mixing the records are UNTOUCHED!!! Even though he from 5th Ward Houston, Texas.... Dude came to NY & the rest is history. I will ALWAYS remember Premier as an East Coast DJ.
Fr3ShPRiNC3 9NKT IF THEY RESPECT HIM AND DINT ASK A LOT OF MOTHAFUCKING KELIS QUESTIONS, IF THEY ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HIS CAREER THEN COOL BUT NOT LOVE AND HIP HOP SOAP OPERA BULLSHIT
Cannot believe this guy wasn't from NY originally yet defined that sound... I can't express how great this dude is. And also, can't believe Charlamagne never added Big L's name to the greatest rappers when he mentioned it.
I was in D&D studios auditioning some tracks for Tony Touch back in the day, not even expecting Premier to be in the building. I'm not there for 5 minutes and who walks in on the session? DJ Premier! My jaw must have fell on the floor, I was stunned. He walks in and says, "anybody got a Dutch? I need a Dutch real quick." I sheepishly reached into my backpack and got the White Owl I was saving for later and, hands trembling, dutifully handed it to Primo. I think he nodded his head one time to the beat that was playing and told me I was in good company with Touch and them. I think I said something stupid like, "Premier, your my idol when it comes to the beats." Something he probably heard a million times before. It was surreal.
He is a genius! What he said about Christina Aguilera is so precious cos she tends to be overlooked by the masses though in the industry everybody knows she is one of the best. Like he said the James Brown's rendition was fantastic and I didn't know he had his saying while they were considering Beyoncé or Mariah but I wouldn't have seen Mariah in that register to be honest. Shout out to DJ Envy for asking about their work.
Legend...great interview. Several years ago when I found out Premier was from Texas and not NY and it blew my mind, would of never thought that. Premo is a honorary NYC dude 4 real
Good morning my black brothers and sisters. Be good to one another, help each other, build each other, and most of all, love one another. Be wise, seek knowledge and always show respect to those who made it possible, I love y'all ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 #blackunited.
Michael Arrington agree he's one of my favorite. But to count dre out as a part of hip hip legend can me circumstance to demographics. Boom bap premier absolutely. However contribution to hip-hop dre has had a bigger impact on the culture. My opinion but then again I am from the west
Premier is a true legend and pioneer. Look at how humble the guy is after millions of sold classic records, being a huge part of hiphop and one of the best hiphop producers ever. I wish all the best to Mr.Premier.
F DIRT OFF YA SHOULDERS???? I understand 99 Problems, I aint ever been one to be a fan of Rubin's production for the most part, but that Timbo beat on 'Dirt' is too nasty to be left off the record.
I've never known this man until this interview. I only know the P-P-P-P-Premier sound effect. Forgive me, I'm not a hip hop head. But this man has done a lot in music.
I was fortunate to meet premo a few times in my life. Shout out to the Lotwin’s! - premiere was mad chill and a kind dude. I was young and ignorant but I just remembered how shy I was at the time, and was like, this dude’s nice, real nice lol.
King Pudge1921 OWNERZ!!!! Needs to be spoken about more! Preem was going through a metamorphosis at this time. His chopping was even more frenetic than usual on that LP.
I hope the Breakfast Club does more interviews like this with legends. This interview was such a joy to listen to. Hopefully, interviews like this get the younger generations into the history of hip-hop/rap.
I love the way he talks about Christina. She is a REAL talented woman, but ppl NEVER recognizes everything she does. An amazing vocalist (even sometimes she oversings, i know), but she still being my favorite. Back to Basics is an incredible album, can't wait to hear what she is BRINGIN...
Wow!!!! Chubb Rock is National Merit Scholar recipient ( The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students)... the strongest combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous university studies....Give respect where its due👏✊ ..🙌💯
it feels like Drink Champs inspired this interview... all these people in the industry need to realize, putting old-school cats in interviews is what's going to get y'all ratings up!
Overstanding God I do. I totally agree with u on that note, the old school interviews are some of my favs. They're trying to keep up with the homie NORE
One of my all time favorite beatmakers and producers. I can always recognize a premo track. Instant head nod too soon as they come on lol. Even though I grew up as a classical musician, his songs were the soundtrack of my youth. After rehearsal hop on the train and blast Gang Starr, Jay, Nas, Rakim etc in my ears.
best interview on breakfast club. Im so glad envy, charlemagne and ang showed there knowledge of hip hop. I could of gone on for days of questions. Good job guys. DJ Premier probably has the best family tree in hip hop..
What I love most about this interview is that they gave him the utmost respect. This is a living legend and he deserves nothing less than reverence and humility. Amazing stories and an impeccable level of credibility. Premo's memory is off the charts and we truly need more seasoned mentors like this, especially since he STILL creates classic material.
An hour long interview with Preemo, clicked as fast as I could! Always relevant and always refreshing to hear one of the greats speak in a time where we need it the most. Listening to all these stories and shit is like a breath of fresh air to the culture. Hip Hop will always stay alive thanks to cats like DJ Premier. Peace! #PPPPPremier
Premier broke it ALL the way down! Envy & Charlemagne don't care about the "Real Golden Era". Preme's bringing up Juice Crew, Craig, Kane, G Rap, Showbiz, etc,.. They're like "What about Nas? Hov?" Smh...
R.I.P. GURU AND B.I.G.. DJ PREMIER DEFINITELY BROKE DOWN EVERY PART OF HIP HOP AND HOW THE CULTURE WAS. JUST AMAZED ON BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE THINGS THAT WENT DOWN THAT WE DIDN'T KNOW TIL THIS INTERVIEW.

Great interview. I love hearing hip hop stories. It feels so good to revisit such a historic and memorable time in life - even if just for a little bit.
“In the Hall of the Great Mountain King” of producers, sits Preemo on the throne…. He is the summit on my Mt. Rushmore, imo I have so much respect for him…. A legend‼️ 💯🙏🏾🥰 I could sit and listen to him speak all day - so much history resonates within him 🤗 (Love to ALL my Young Peoples Day-camp Campettes) 💕

affane78 I heard that too
affane78 a lot of these guys go to school or were very smart in high school. It's just that the tired narrative of dropping out and being so focused on the streets and nothing else is basically a cliche for hip hop.
