    He says, multiple times, it's a farm pig. There's no reason to discuss if it is or not. He still did society s service by harvesting this big girl. Left out into neighboring crop lands her and her offspring would be devastating. May his family enjoy the harvest!

    I like that you called it what it was and didn't claim it was a monster russian boar or something. Those escaped domestics and their offspring can get enormous (read: fat as hell) because they have learned to just eat non-stop and in that environment (surrounded by crops), it's the perfect scenario. After several generations of running free, they're usually much leaner and lighter. I know there are plenty of big ones out there, but 347 would be my heaviest by far. Great kill.

    • @ItsAWildLife1
      @ItsAWildLife1  3 года назад +16

Have seen a boar that was obese, unsure why it was so fat like a tme one (it most definitely wasn't), it was living in hill country that produced a few good pigs for the region

      Apparently most of the commenters on here do not understand what the term feral means. First generation feral hogs are absolutely indistinguishable from a domestic hog. Second generation feral hogs may or may not show changes in skeletal and muscular development depending on what generation feral the boar that sired the litter was. The more generations removed from domesticity, the greater the "wild hog" look will become. Feral just means born out of domesticity and raised without socializing with humans.

The company that I worked for only bought and butchered sows that had to weigh at least 500 pounds. I honestly don't believe that your hog has ever farrowed a litter of pigs which would make her a nice and healthy guilt. With that white stripe on her shoulder she definitely has some hamp blood in her. Congratulations on a great shot and enjoy the sausage.

    Not being negative, but I always wondered why hunters used “Range Finders” to get the distance from their hunt set up (Blind or Stand) to a feeding or feeder location. When you set up you can measure that distance and a few other things where you may have shots etc. This gives you one less thing to do while hunting and take some risk out of you moving and making noise....

    Don’t understand why y’all are acting like this man is trying to clam a record with this pig. Anyone who has pig hunted long enough knows that this is a domestic pig that got into the wild they are just as hard to kill as a wild pig and we all can agree that this pig been living out in the wild for quite some time so don’t understand the point of keep repeating the fact that it’s not a 100% wild hog

    In Louisiana where i hunt their are no farm fields-state lands-mostly Russian with very little domestic traits-killled one close to four hundred -pegged a three hundred lb scale before I got it off the ground then the steel wench got pulled off the steel pole-was able to get it up again with a new wench-big boar-ancient-reg kill hogs in the 250 lb range-lots of sows under 200-very good eating

    Hi. Semi-random question. Since a bow is so quiet (compared to a rifle of course), would that shot have alerted other wildlife in the area or could you have gone straight back to that tent and waited for another pig to come soon after? Or would the squeal of the pig being hit been enough to spook any others nearby?

    • @ItsAWildLife1
      @ItsAWildLife1  Год назад +1

      I have shot 4 back to back with a bow and it did not alarm any of the others. That was a very windy night though, so I was able to get away with more noise.

      This may be common knowledge I don t know. I live in Eastern NC. Years ago I read in Outdoor Life about a man who built a hunting lodge and preserve in the mountains of NC along the border with Tenn. He imported Russian wild boars and sows that he raised in an enclosed pen of many acres. These Russian boars ( I guess this name includes Male and females) are totally different in looks and stature but probably played a part in breeding our domestic hogs. They are built smaller in the rear and larger in the front shoulders than domestic ones,with straight tails and the young are striped. Our domestic ,turned feral hogs have a mild tenperment compared to those Russians so those that hunted them said. Over years most escaped the enclosure and breed with feral ones. That's prob where the Arkansas razor back hogs came from.
      If anyone knows of this or more information I would appreciate any response from you. Thanks
