man makes me so excited, im doing the 1.9 tdi swap and im so hyped to put some actual power behind my 88 samurai, i will say that 1.3 in it did a good job making it 400,000 miles but its going to be absolutely ridiculous and awesome with that tdi 1.9 in it.
Nice, I want to convert mine just the same but can't until we move because of lack of space. Its amazing how well those engines fit, they look stock. Clean up that wiring and yours would look like it came like that from the factory.
@davidhall8621 It depends on if you are an experienced mechanic or not as far as time goes. For someone that has skills you could do it easily in two weekends. The Zukes trans will be reused, you will have to get a new pressure plate, oil filter adapter, flywheel, starter, fuel filter adapter, and water pump pulley. And of course you need an adapter for engine to trans. I would suggest going with a carbed engine because if not it gets expensive and its allot more involved. Good luck mate!
Great video! My son and I converted his 87 Samurai and used a 1.6 Turbo Diesel from an 86 Jetta. We are in Lynden, WA, and I noticed you're in Washington too..... where are you located? If you're close, I'd love to compare notes! We also used the ACME adapters kit. He's had it for a year and a half on the road now, and we're blown away by the reliability of the vehicle.
Mitch McMahon I’m assuming you’re meaning the more common 1.9 tdi and not the Canadian 1.9 TD. If it is a tdi, you’ll need a whole mess of electronics that come from your donor vehicle. From what I can remember you’ll need the ecm, key tumbler, clutch pedal, etc.
I don’t remember which one i used, but it was a gas Volkswagen radiator with the correct hose orientation. Mine probably was a little on the small side as the electric fan was a must

If you still have this rig, I'd love to see some new uploads! Take it down the road and get into the woods!

The best part is the old stove sitting in his yard!!!
I think it is because the larger engine needs more clearance so the oil pan does not get crushed if he hits a bump or something.
I am doing a frame off resto to my 88 Sammy and I will have a diesel in it!

Very nice. I just ordered the Acme kit #3. What radiator did you use? It fits nice. The truck sound great!
So, total, how much did that cost you to do? I just picked up a Samurai and this is the first thing on my to-do list.
