My mother worked on the tea plantations as a young woman in the early 1950s. I was so lucky to be born on this paradise…there’s no place like this beautiful island my Sao Miguel ❤️❤️❤️
I am in the process of researching my trip to azero and your vlog is the best i have found on youtube. Most travel bloggers go for lots of drone shot which might look nice on a video but it is not an in-person experience. Actually informative. To the point. Short and not loaded with long hair blown the wind! 😅😅😅 thanks!
I just got back from the Azores. Wow, fantastic! For my trip, I went on three separate guided tours in the $50-$60 USD range. Super easy to have a local show you everything without having to drive on the narrow streets.
Shhhhhh 🤫 the Azores is a secret! There are nine islands - if you want running of the bulls and fun, fun, fun, go to Terceira.. S Miguel is beautiful, great shopping … São Jorge natural beauty, hiking, deep sea fishing…Faial go during sea week, sign the wall, see the volcanic eruption of 1957-1958 … Pico is about whale watching, dolphins, wine and it’s late July fair weekend … the others are really tiny! Great video ❤
My mother & her family were from Furnas. I took her back after 60 years - it was a real treat for her - she marveled at the fact there were now roads & cars all over the island 😆 She showed me the tea farm where her mother would go pick tea and dry it in the open air and the calderas where they would cook Sunday dinner. We went to the spa and drank the iron water from the natural fountain. Amazingly we met up with old family friends - women my mother went to grade school with - while walking along the main road in Furnas and also in Ribeira Grande, where one of her grandmothers lived. The new owner even let my mother come inside and see how it had changed. Her other grandmother lived in the middle of Furnas in the house with the 3 Bicas (3 faucets). There used to be a large trough in front where people would water their horses - I noticed it is no longer there - and across from the botanical garden there was a stream with a small bridge named after my grandfather called Ponte de Sr. Elias. I hope to take my husband there soon to see how amazing the island is. Great video ♥
Excellent Video...My ex and I had booked a week-long trip to the Azores; we loved everything about it; the natural beauty was just surreal. Anyway, we ended up extending our stay to one month. These Islands were unnoticed despite being in the middle of the Americas and Europe. Tourism is booming over there. However, I would caution people that getting a car rental is almost impossible to find in the summer. What worries me is that now that the Azores has been "discovered," it might interfere with the natural beauty I can honestly admit I have never seen.
We currently in Sao Miguel using your guide. It’s awesome thank you. We by chance found accommodation at Praia dos Moihnos. I would add to a must do list

If not, either Cascata do Salto do Cabrito, Gorreana Tea Factory, or one of the hot springs depending on what you’re into. I hope that helps!😀 Cayleigh

Going to Madeira and Sao Miguel in August, thanks for all the info! Do you know any info about the tours where you jump in the water and snorkel with dolphins? Was wondering if it would be worth it or not. Definitely going to hit most of these spots you talked about!
We are so excited for you, you're going to have an amazing time! Unfortunately, we didn't do the dolphin swim so don't know much about it, but let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching😀
I believe that the tour companies are starting to discontinue swimming with the dolphins due to stress being put on the mammals. They believe it's best to observe from a distance and give them their space.
Did you guys go to the mountains top in seven cities to get the view of the two lakes where one side is blue and the other was green. Did you go to fire lake or to the place I the early morning to see the sun rise over the ocean. I was there 30yrs ago I was 16 my dad is from there. We are doing a group of 10 family trip there this fall. So your suggestions are cool thanks
Great video! Question: did you stay in one place on the island the whole time? Is it feasible to drive to all of the sites from one base point? We will have 4 days there and 3 in Lisbon.
@@madetoexplore Azores are 9 gorgeous islands not just 1 gorgeous island , unless you guys went to all 9 islands you cant really answer the question which is better, plus Madeira & Azores are two completely different regions which offer different things in their own way , Madeira has everything on two islands while Azores has it on 9 islands,.. I'm curious did you guys just go to Sao Miguel or did you visit any other islands in the Azores?? .. regardless very good video on a beautiful peaceful clean island :)
Going Back to Our Roots ... Ask some one who has been to the Azores not just some one who went to 1 island of the 9 islands of the Azores , in my opinion there is no better place than the other , they are all beautiful and offer everything depending on what you like & need in your life, either if you are visiting or planning to live there :) .
Don't get me wrong ,both places are beautiful , but the Azores tips the scales as in Madeira you won't be able to experience certain things like hot springs, volcanoes or even lagoons so both archipelagos spectacular to experience it .. Madeira has the edge on probably the weather and ,,,perhaps football 😂😂❤ Bless
Thank you so much! And also where did you stay on the island. Did you stay in one place or changed accomodations throughout the trip? Great video by the way it's the best one about Sao Miguel I find!
Just a heads up for anyone wanting to go to logo da fogo. I'm not sure if it is just a busy season thing, but you cannot drive up to it between the hours of 9am and 7pm in a rental car. They force you to take a your bus if you want to. Also, any of the hotsprings nearby it, in the summer months, will one hundred percent be "sold out" unless you want to go WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY later in the day, so buy ahead. Furnas is an absolute disaster to drive around in the summer months with all the tourist parked all over the place and wandering the streets not paying attention like zombies. The big botanic garden there is also under construction in a lot of parts currently.
Oh, also, Google maps fancied us rally drivers on our trip. It would sometimes take us down one ways the wrong way, down narrow dirt roads with blind curves, and sometimes just straight up not the right way. We were at the viewpoint of the rei and wanted to go to that traditional sete lookout that everyone raves about, it took us all the way down the mountain and around and back up, when I reality it was just down the mountain about 2 minutes and back up the other way about 5. So try and plan all your directions ahead of time if you can.
