If you are fishing for stocked trout there is nothing more effective than a booby fly pattern. Banned on many small Stillwaters because it is often misused and not fished properly. Anglers will cast this fly out on fast sinking lines then put their rods down. A fish will engulf the fly often taking it right down their throat. Offering no chance of a succesfull return.
If fished correctly though this fly will catch you many trout over a season. I find the brighter colours work particularly well early season.

Other winner. The reminder of using plumbers tape under the tinsel to make it pop out more, a step too often ignored by many. Some of my materials predate nineteen oatcake. Some are PBD. Pre biscuit doggy. As per the ole 24 ration packs along with tins of cheese possessed lol

The water displaced by the boobie eyes either on the surface or deeper in the water column as the fly is pulled then rises during a sink and draw retrieve. Draws the trout in like ducks to bread. So they then take the boobie or see one of the smaller offerings along the team.

Hi Sam, I think this one was 5mm but you can vary the size.
