Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 69-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄
Wow! I hope to still be rocking too in my later years. Thanks for your comment. Babymetal is a truly unique phenomenon. They are an incredible group. I appreciate your recollections and interaction. Greetings from here in South Africa. 💯🤝✌️👌👍
Great first reaction, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊You have 14 years of their music and performances to catch up on. There is no other band quite like BABYMETAL - and the Kawaii-Metal you were reading about was pioneered by them, the name BABYMETAL is in part an indication that they gave birth to this new metal sub-genre. Su-metal is the lead vocalist and the whole concept was formed around her vocal talents and stage presence ... even though she was still only 12 when they started. Moametal and Momometal (and for the first 7 or 8 years Yuimetal) are also very talented and crucial to what makes BABYMETAL unique, original and special - and awesome. Unlike pop acts and other artists who incorporate choreographed dance where it is used to fill the stage or to give you half-dressed girls (and boys) to look at as they perform all the same old dance moves, grab their crotches and prance about for no apparent reason, BABYMETAL's choreo serves at least two very real purposes. The choreo is bespoke for each song and it is interpretive dance relating to and helping to translate the meaning of the song or a lyric. Most importantly they use their choreo to include and involve the audience. When the girls jump, pump their fist or do a particular move the crowd takes their cue from the to do the same so the crowd becomes a big part of the performance. BABYMETAL are black belts in crowd engagement and crowd control. In live shows BABYMETAL are supported by the Kami Band, each one of them a world class musician. From late 2012 they Kami Band of the East (the best Japanese session musicians) were phased in playing a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows and became the full time support for all live shows from March 2014. In 2019, as BABYMETAL's foreign tours got longer, the Kami Band of the West (American musician) was brought in to help with those tours. The Kami Band of the East last appeared in January 2023, the West Kamis have been ever present since April 2023. BABYMETAL have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but they will mix and blend not only JPop but so many more musical styles and genres with the metal - they will surprise you every time. The official music videos are all very good and worth seeing (some should almost be compulsory viewing), but BABYMETAL are first and foremost a live performance act, that is where you will see and most importantly hear them at their very best. I'm sure you will get more suggestions for songs and performances as you go along.

First off welcome to Babymetal. Su here was 17 and Yui and Moa were 15 each. And as you mentioned they exhibit what is one of their most enduring qualities, that being there command and rapport with the audience. Your reaction was exactly the way I felt the first time I heard Babymetal. And in 14 years they have continued to amaze audiences and through some very trying times too! Don't worry about the lyrics too much. Babymetal always have an uplifting message. As Su has said "Don't think, feel!" I'd like to recommend a more recent performance where they exhibit the performance perfection they have risen to. It's called "Arkadia" from their Legend MM 2024 concert. Road of Resistance: Live In Japan 🇯🇵 @"Saitama Super Arena (SSA):- "Road of Resistance" is a song by the Japanese Kawaii metal band Babymetal. The song was released worldwide as a digital single on February 1, 2015 by Toy's Factory, serving as the lead single off the international re-release of the album Babymetal, as well the opening track from Metal Resistance. Su-Metal was 10 when she performed with Karen Girls at the SSA (SAITAMA SUPER ARENA). The Arena that night holds about 20000 Babymetal fans but when you see the centrepiece Island and the two curve bridge, it can hold up to 30000 or even up to 40000 depends on the configuration of Babymetal concert for each tour they performed. This song is co-written by Dragonforce with Herman Li and Sam Totman plays the guitar 🎸 solos, but Kami Band live show is brutal and tight. This is a classic Power Metal genre or speed metal as some might refer to. Bands like Dragonforce, Helloween and even Sabaton do power metal genre. Arkadia from Metal Galaxy Album is the successor to Road Of Resistance. At 17 Su-Metal alongside Yuimetal and Moametal who is 15 at that time, gave a perfect 👌 performance on how live show should be. This performance alone cemented my love ❤️ and appreciation for Babymetal. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘😍💕🌸🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. . Babymetal singles chronology:- •"Megitsune" (2013). •"Road of Resistance" (2015). •"Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015). Background and release:- "Road of Resistance" includes guest appearances by DragonForce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman. The song would be used to mark the beginning of the band's lore, Metal Resistance Episode III, at the concert held on November 8, 2014 at O2 Brixton Academy in London, which was also the final tour date for the band's Babymetal World Tour 2014. A trailer for the song was released on January 5, 2015, integrating footage from the debut performance of the song in London. The song was first released as a digital bonus track off the live album Live at Budokan: Red Night, with limited editions of the album containing a download card with a code to download the song at no additional charge. The song was later released as a dedicated digital single on the iTunes Store on February 1, 2015. Li and Totman are featured on guitars, although they are listed as featured artists in various regions of the re-release of the album Babymetal, on which the song appears as a bonus track, mainly in the United Kingdom. Composition:- Rolling Stone magazine described the song as "power metal" with "shiny pop harmonies". Rock Sound called the song "everything we’d expect from [Babymetal] with a bit of Dragonforce’s exhilarating, flame-fingered guitar added in for good measure." Matt Evans of The List called the song an "empowering hyperspeed anthem". According to Kadokawa, the song consists of twin shred guitars courtesy of Li and Totman, with a dynamic sound derived of melodic speed metal. The lyrics are described as a narrative on the Metal Resistance, which the band adopted on their world tour. It has also been considered the "final stage" of Babymetal and the prologue to Metal Resistance, and a transition performance that demonstrates the band's growth from the previous album. According to Su-metal, the song refers to the Metal Resistance lore, described as "the story of Babymetal traveling across the world in the hopes of creating a new metal to unify the world as we break through the barriers of language and borders. In the middle of the song there is a part where we go, ‘Wow, Wow’ and this is where our fans from around the world can sing with us at our concerts. I hope people will listen to our album and support us at our shows." Yuimetal stated in an interview with Metal Hammer that "Road of Resistance" is her favorite song from Metal Resistance, explaining that it "has been performed at so many concerts, so a lot of memories are jam-packed. The lyrics are positive, the sound is so cool, and [the] dance is so powerful." •Recorded by Watametal and Adrian Breakspear. •Mixed by Ettore Rigotti Personnel:- •Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) - Main vocals (2010 - Present) •Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) - Backing vocals (2010 - Left Babymetal in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues) •Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) - Backing vocals (2010 - Present) •Momoko Okazaki:- On April 1, 2023, during the Babymetal concert "Babymetal Begins: Black Night" at the Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Okazaki was officially announced as their new member with the stage name "Momometal". Later that year, her vocals were featured in the spoken section of Babymetal's digital single "Metali!!". •Kei Kobayashi (Kobametal / Kxbxmetal / Kitsune of Metal God) - executive producer, lyrics. •Miki Watanabe (Mk-metal) - lyrics. •Norikazu Nakayama (Norimetal) - music. •Nobuaki Miyasaka (Mish-Mosh) - music, arrangement. •Sari Miyasaka (Mish-Mosh) - music, arrangement. •Keiji Kusama (Kyt-metal) - music. •Kyoto - arrangement. •Leda - bass (Kami Band) •Herman Li - guitar (courtesy of Electric Generation Recordings Ltd. and Warner Music Japan Inc.) •Sam Totman - guitar (courtesy of Electric Generation Recordings Ltd. and Warner Music Japan Inc.) It opened preliminarily on May 5, 2000, and then officially opened on September 1 of the same year. Its spectator capacity is 36,500 at maximum settings,[3] making it the second-largest indoor arena in the world. The main arena capacity is between 19,000 and 22,500". •Owner: Saitama Arena Corp. •Capacity: 36,500 (stadium setting) 18,000 (arena setting). The arena was designed by Dan Meis, who at the time was working for architecture firm Ellerbe Becket, together with Nikken Sekkei. Meis's design was selected as a result of an international design competition. The arena features a gigantic movable section of seating which can reduce capacity for smaller events and create a more intimate setting. It is a favorite venue for puroresu (Japanese professional wrestling) and mixed martial arts (MMA). It has also hosted other sports events such as boxing, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ice hockey, and gymnastics. It is the only Japanese arena equipped especially for American football. As you've already got a lot of info on Babymetal from your own research and other comments I won't serenade you with even more. Got introduced to them from a collaboration they did just a few months ago with a band that I got into about 2 years ago and saw live just before they released the collab. That band being Electric Callboy, which you should definitely check out as well (They also mix multiple genres with their music) Since the collab, Babymetal have quickly become my second favorite band and I'll be driving 4 hours next month to see them live when they tour the US. For Babymetal I would suggest Headbanger Live @ Legend 1997 (abr metal has a good version title Headbanger Live Legend of 1997) or the official music video for Megitsune (Rarely are music videos suggested for Babymetal) For Electric Callboy, either Hypa Hypa or We Got the Moves.
Great reaction. You should react to Tales Of The Destinies, Syncopation, From Dusk Till Dawn, Brand New Day, Starlight - Shine (Legend M) - Arkadia (Trilogy Of Lights) You can find the videos in the links below. Your reaction was exactly the way I felt the first time I heard Babymetal. And in 14 years they have continued to amaze audiences and through some very trying times too!
Don't worry about the lyrics too much. Babymetal always have an uplifting message. As Su has said "Don't think, feel!"
I'd like to recommend a more recent performance where they exhibit the performance perfection they have risen to. It's called "Arkadia" from their Legend MM 2024 concert. Link will follow: ruclips.net/video/as315wXm_u4/видео.html
Yes, Babymetal are an incredibly interactive live band. They are utterly phenomenal. Thanks for the info and link. Will check it out.
Fun reaction. you already got some good suggestions and plenty of info, so I'll just say you're about to have a lot of fun so enjoy.
Thank you!! I have no doubt that the Babymetal journey will ABSOLUTELY RULE! Appreciate your comment.

A few early MV are worth checking out, but in general, live is where Babymetal shines.

Road of Resistance: Live In Japan 🇯🇵 @"Saitama Super Arena (SSA):-
"Road of Resistance" is a song by the Japanese Kawaii metal band Babymetal. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘😍💕🌸🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. .
Babymetal singles chronology:-
•"Megitsune" (2013).
•"Road of Resistance" (2015).
•"Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015).
Background and release:-
"Road of Resistance" includes guest appearances by DragonForce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman.
Composition:-
Rolling Stone magazine described the song as "power metal" with "shiny pop harmonies".
The lyrics are positive, the sound is so cool, and [the] dance is so powerful."

"Saitama Super Arena (さいたまスーパーアリーナ, Saitama Sūpā Arīna) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Chūō-ku, Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It opened preliminarily on May 5, 2000, and then officially opened on September 1 of the same year.
It formerly housed the John Lennon Museum, which displayed John Lennon memorabilia and closed in 2010.
LYRICS OVERVIEW:-
The light of the smoke signal that dyes the eastern sky bright red
東の空を 真っ赤に染める 狼煙の光が
A new way to signal the end of the darkness of loneliness

Burn the flames of your heart as many times as you like
くじけても 何度でも 心の炎を燃やせ

Welcome to the foxhole. Babymetal are unique, and you seemed to fit right in. What a fun reaction.
Thank you very much. Babymetal impressed me immensely. They are INCREDIBLE!
For Babymetal I would suggest Headbanger Live @ Legend 1997 (abr metal has a good version title Headbanger Live Legend of 1997) or the official music video for Megitsune (Rarely are music videos suggested for Babymetal)
For Electric Callboy, either Hypa Hypa or We Got the Moves.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Babymetal are astounding. I'll check out Electric Callboy. Appreciate your suggestions too. 💯👍
Welcome to the Fox hole. You need to check out more Babymetal. Liked and subscribed. 🤘🦊🤘

Comparing BabyMetal to the Spice Girls is just wrong on so many levels. It's sacrilege.
BabyMetal is a real band.
They actually sing live. No lip synching.
Great reaction and I'm glad you love them, but they are 100% unique.
Just something that came to mind during recording. Nothing wrong with Spice Girls imho.
Babymetal is UNIQUE AWESOMENESS personified though. No comparisons needed. Thanks for watching and commenting. 💯🔥🤘👍
Great Reaction! Welcome to the FoxHole. These girls and the Kami band (the musicians) are all freaking amazing.

I read that you made a reaction to "Metali!" already. So you know about Momometal. Most of us are so glad that she accepted the burden being a full member of BABYMETAL. She is amazing. Momo clicked in like the last piece of a puzzle we never knew was incomplete 😉
Thanks. I have no doubts that it will be an awesome, metal rollercoaster. 😁👍
Yes, got a tonne of info already. I recorded the two reactions close together, so not clear on who was who at that point, and similar sound issues on both, but I'll be much better with the 3rd reaction. I'm just grateful that I got to experience the magic and unique awesomeness of Babymetal. Appreciate your comment and thanks for the suggestion as well. 💯🤝👍🤘
