My biggest problem is that it hurts the service academy teams the most. They can only lose people through the transfer portal. No one can simply join the team, and there's no way to offer them any NIL money since their entire salary is taken care of by the military.
@loganleroy8622 Dude, nobody expects the service academy's to actually compete and win against teams trying to win championships. It's just a extra curricular activity for the service men. They aren't trying to make the CFP lol
@@kwolf506 Just an extra curricular? No, that's not true, I assure you it's much more than that. As a former college football player in the early 2000s i agree with the new transfer rules. When you're recruited that same coaching staff may not be there in the next 4 - 6 years. You may not fit the system the team runs a lot of things can happen. Plus it stops the big teams like Georgia/Bama from stock piling talent to prevent other teams from having that player.
how many times in the past has a player signed and when he gets to campus in the fall his position coach /recruiter is long gone and system is totally different ?
Coaches being able to block players from playing for a full year is insane to me. I get that you should be committed to the program you chose, but if you’re outperforming the program you’re at, or especially if you aren’t getting the playing time that you wanted, thin it is what it is and you gotta get the better opportunity for your career.
I ran DII XC as an out of state walk on. After three years I told my coach I was done running. He got upset and threatened put a hold on my academic account if i didn’t return all the gear i accumulated over three years because I didnt finish my “full commitment” aka all years of eligibility with the team and wouldn’t be able to graduate. I applied fora graduate program and put in an inquiry with another team in the conference. They ended up offering me a 3/4 but wouldnt be able to compete just because I applied a week late. Ultimately, transferring would set me back in my bachelors about a year and originally being an out of state transfer its a pain in the ass to work around college credits and applying where you want them. Its nice to have options with school being so expensive. I ended up not going and graduating in two semesters. Some coaches feel you owe them everything and your success is from them. Athletes put in the work and ultimately need to make business decisions which shouldnt be constrained by institutions doing the exact same thing but with more control.
Good change. Building healthy rivalries instead of ruining careers for no reason. Imagine every time a player switched teams to the NFL or NBA they had to sit out a whole year
I love the transfer portal because I had a friend that went to play ball at Oregon state and they bench him because they didn’t want him to play for other schools
