    I have that Sirui SIRUI T-024SK. Love it. Great for my style of sitting on my butt glassing. I dont often stand and glass. Still works when I need to as well and I love the pop up also the plate lock so you dont accidentally lose your optic.

    I believe that the foam covering the legs is designed for dampening vibrations from your hands if you hold onto the tripod while glassing. Not necessarily for carrying it or resting it on your shoulder. But I'm sure it works for that too! Lol
    I went with the slik pro 833 cf because I value versatility and stability while glassing in the wind while trying to maintain a balance of portability and light weight. I also may want to shoot off it. If my optics are vibrating in the wind a lot because of my tripod setup that is a deal breaker. As Brady likes to say, "you can't kill what you can't see," and vibrations while glassing seriously cut down the effectiveness of the optics. I find a bit larger and more stable tripod helps with this. I feel like the 833 cf is a really good blend of what I am looking for. It isn't too heavy that I can't pack it around, it's tall enough for me to glass from standing up, it works well from the truck, and it can be taken into the back country if needed.

    The “trekking pole leg” is intended to be a monopod for photographers. You can put the tripod head on the leg and use it for support when you need a little but can’t use a full tripod

    Anyone give yourself a little extra weight (4.8#) in your tripod and have a sturdier tripod that you can also shoot off of? I have a small arca rail on the bottom of my stock and can easily connect my rifle to my tripod. Using a RRS TFC 24L with a Leofoto lh-40 ball head, right at 4# 12 oz. No problems glassing off of it with binos or a spotter and the big perk of being able to have a solid platform to shoot from.

    Well what did you guys end up with? I 've been eyeing a ST-124 +VA-5 as it seems like the best combo of robust build, packability, height and weight. Hoping the triangular center post adds some stability along with the tighter package. Slik 634 with VA-5 was a close 2nd, but Sirui package the better deal. Sirui is a little heavier at 3.8#, but decent for a tripod you can stand and glass.

    Great review but What about if u want to shoot from the tripod as well?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  3 года назад

      We would run a mid-weight tripod like the Slik 734 with a Sirui VA-5 head with a Triclawps attachment for super stable shooting platform. This would be a good do all, everything setup for a rifle that less than 9 pounds. We could also go to the extreme with the Vortex Radian tripod and a Radian ball head big enough to handle much heavier rifle combinations. Please feel free to reach out to our Optics Manager, Cody Nelson if you need more explanation. Thanks for watching!

      Brady is now using the Tricer BC tripod with the LP-Pan head when he is using a smaller spotting scope. And he's using the Tricer BP head for his 115/BTX setup. But the Sirui still holds a special place!

    Guys,
    I'm running the Swaro BTX 85mm with a Jim White 2.0 head, that Im not impressed with at all.....
    And a Promaster CF T325P (tall tripod) at 37oz.
    I want a smaller lighter tripod for glassing in seated possition and save some weight, is there any other better setup?
    An smaller tripod will be lighter, but sturdy enough to carry the 85mm BTX....
    Thanks for the video

      I have the promaster 525 it shakes with my Leica 82 if I go past the first 2 extensions but if not it's pretty solid

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  3 года назад

      We would strongly suggest something more sturdy for the BTX/85mm. When you are below 2.5 or 3 pounds on a tripod/head combination you are entering a place where optics just are not as stable. The Slik CF Pro 634 or 734 with a VA-5 head would be a great setup for the BTX/85mm.
      You could also put the Slik 635 CF Pro in there as well because it will be more compact in its folded up configuration. You can hang weight off of these with their center post hooks to help dampen the vibration. Please reach out to our Optics Manager, Cody Nelson if you have questions on which tripod might be the best for you and your set up!

      They change from time to time is most likely the reason. They do run sales occasionally. I am interested in that SLIK Pro CF 634 and it is on sale right now for $209.95 - I have a shorter SLIK that is 7+ years old and want something a bit taller. They make great products.

    My brain gets places by a different path than most, so let me explain my views on the tripod issue: I use tripods for many different purposes, photography, video, observation, interior decoration (I own a lot of tripods). At the start of this video you said you should switch tripods because the one you use is discontinued. That’s an issue with companies not using standards, and tripod company’s have no excuses here. A tripod is three legs (which you can argue is still one part number), an apex and a center column (maybe). The legs are a bunch of telescoping tubes - not exactly rocket science. So why do they redesign them for every tripod? It costs more to design, more to produce, and far more to replace. Here’s the thing, Toray 10x carbon tubes do come in standard sizes, 40mm, 36mm, 32mm, 28mm, 25mm, 22mm, 19mm… If a company made a series of apexes that fit each diameter top section, and offered different lengths, you would have a truly modular system. The advantage is that you can decide what attributes you want from your tripod on that day or trip, and build it up accordingly. You could also invest in your system knowing that 36mm isn’t going to be discontinued (I hope).
    In the real world, LeoFoto has come close to my ideal. Their numbering system is simple (but incomplete), a 364 uses 36mm top sections an has 4 sections. It doesn’t tell you the length, but it’s not hard to figure out. The apex is compatible with all top sections of its size, so 36mm legs can take an LS apex which is narrow and has no center column, a CEX apex which has a built-in leveling base, or an LM apex which takes a video bowl or center column. The brilliant part here is that the twist locks are interchangeable. Let’s say you want a tripod with one longer leg because you’re set up on a hill, or at the edge of the water. You know that your 364 has section diameters of 36mm, 32mm, 28mm and 25mm - they’re standards. A 284 will have less sections of 28mm, 25mm, 22mm and 19mm. You can swap the 25mm bottom section on the 364 with the 3 bottom sections of a 284, and you have an 8’ 366 leg. They also have 2 sections short leg tripods in some models. One of my favorite locations is a cement block foundation for a cell tower. It’s too small to get all 3 legs on the platform, and it’s taller than I am. I bring a tripod that has one 8’ leg and two 12” 2 sections legs. Creating that tripod for that scenario takes me maybe 10 minutes…
