  • In the summer of 1976, Merv turned his show over to the annual Ebony Awards, co-hosted by Flip Wilson and Natalie Cole. To close the show R&B superstar Johnnie Taylor performed his smash hit "Disco Lady." Merv Griffin had over 5000 guests appear on his show from 1963-1986.     Natalie was a gorgeous woman in every way, seldom mentioned now in Pop music. She could blow any female pop singers off any stage in her day. I keep admiring her beautiful features as I remember seeing her in concert.

    I remember when he took my siblings and I to a studio here in Minnesota one year after my mom was killed. He was so nice to us. I think she was his favorite cousin.
