So I *have* played a bit of Sonic 06 (enough to unlock Silver but nowhere near to the finish as the excessive load times exhausted my patience), and something I really like about the pure white color is that it's often used to symbolize purity or even sterility, which allows his character to make a very strong contrast to both Sonic and Shadow, both of whom are far more chaotic in comparison. Compared to the others, Silver comes across as inflexible and aloof, almost judgemental even (almost like SA1 Knuckles now that I think of it). He also makes for the world's easiest setup to be a temporary antagonist to both Sonic and Shadow in the game before they collectively realize that the real threat was something else entirely.
Also going by the idea of white=purity, Silver is described as being "naive" a few times in his story. And he very much is, instantly believing the first person who gives him a possible way to fix his ruined future via Sonic murder, and gleefully following along until he's actually forced to confront the possibility of killing someone to save the world when Amy calls him out (though it's not enough to keep him from trying again, at least until Shadow straightens him out).
Best part about his aloofness is that in the comics, they took that aloof personality and made him the biggest dork who barely has an idea on what he's doing and it's insanely charming and adorable
There's also an interesting element in that because he's completely white, he's the cast member most visually affected by lighting. Which 06 mostly didn't do anything with because its lighting sucked, but his first appearance was in the opening FMV, tinged by the fires of Eggman's attack on Soleanna and calling something 'the Iblis Trigger', and in that one shot, it honestly works to make him seem dangerous.
As someone who beat that game in my youth, it's definitely not worth the trouble... But it's very worth noting how the gangly and thinner limbs of 06 make many characters feel just a bit off except for Silver. His quills just match the stringy long arms and legs of the game with even more oversized shoes compared to the polish of Unleashed's Sonic which was only intersected by Secret Rings which does a fine job to reign in the uncannily long limbs from 06 into a more compact hedgehog. I guess I just wanted to point out how Silver almost looks better as an outlier from Sonic and Shadow, like he's not *supposed* to be there which fits his origins in the future. That crest like shape to his quills always "bothered" me because I could never draw it just right and I think that was intentional. You cannot really imagine a "classic" Silver the way even concept art has given us a "classic" Shadow.
A super cool touch is that when Silver uses his telekinesis, his body lights up with a cyan glow and his quills straighten out even further, putting even more emphasis on his head when his powers are active. I've always loved Silver, even more so when comic writer Ian Flynn hammered out that he was the eternal optimist and idealist. Sad to see he never got to step up to be a part of a more consistent trio, or even just a presence outside of spin-offs. But since we are allowed to like Sonics friends in public again, maybe there's hope for him yet. He would probably think so himself.
I started reading IDW's comics the other and one thing I have loved the most so far has to be the way they portray Silver I really like his personality and the way they draw him
Issue 64 (the one with the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia cover reference), the comic with him and Espio, and the Spring Broken are some of the best

You wont hear me disagree about how he was dunked on constantly during the Misadventures issues, that arc sucked imo and Mimic never earned any of his moments there, things were just done for le drama. Silver is a textbook "goodest boy" character, and I actually like how Sonic 06 shows how you can make an antagonist out of that archetype, even if it's only temporary until he joins your side in the story. Also, for that reason, I actually think that Bryce Papenbrook, his current VA since Team Sonic Racing, is his best voice. Pete Capella was great for 06, but Quinton Flynn, who was his voice from the 2010's until TSR, was horribly miscast as Silver, imo, his voice always felt too old for Silver's character. Papenbrook has the perfect blend of precious bean and shounen protagonist that I feel is perfect for who Silver is.
I completely agree with your thoughts about Bryce Papenbrook's portrayal as Silver. I feel like that sort of "naive shonen protagonist" vibe is just what Silver's voice direction has needed, unlike Capella who was a bit too naive and childish or Flynn who was a bit too much "shonen protagonist" without the nuance.
@@ChazzzyF I think I prefer "hero-in-training" to describe the vibe Papenbrook's voice gives Silver. Naive, sure, but certainly someone who's never had the same experience with hero-ing as Sonic and Shadow. Trunks, the Dragon Ball character Silver takes the most from, is naive but skilled, but that's mostly because Trunks has to act as Vegeta's natural foil, the voice of common sense that gets more and more jaded as he tries to deal with his father's Saiyan antics, and so he needs to come out of the gate with an SSJ1 form. Silver does not have that family connection, especially after '06, so it makes more sense to play up his naivety and inexperience and let Sonic take the lead where he can.
Honestly I prefer Quinton more, he sounds more like Silver's Japanese VA. Pete and Bryce are great, but....Bryce's voice acting in SxSG in Silver boss fight was awful. It's 100 times worse than Quinton's
@@Unknown_Creature244 Well yeah, that's kind of what happens when you're basically brought in to dub over your predecesso'rs work. :P With Ian Flynn's rewrite, it's possible he didn't have the same voice director that Quinton had back in 2011.
Just listened to a voice comparison and God I have to disagree Bryce papenbrooks portrayed is so nasally and grating it's unbearable I think he was dub meliodas too and he was awful there as well. Capella was miles away better imo and even Quinton I preferred. I thought capella had the perfect amount of naivety/optimism in his voice where papenbrook sounds damn near infantile like a 2nd grader playing hero after school
It’s always astonishing to me how Silver managed to become such an iconic mainstay in the franchise despite his debut game being the one that almost killed it. I guess his design and the bones of his story were just that solid that the devs wanted to keep him around.
Silver is just a really cool character all around. I think for both more meme reasons like that whole scene where Shadow kicked him in the back of the head (classic) or the whole IT'S NO USE or the more serious aspects like him being naive but well meaning in his mission it's hard to forget Silver.
Whenever I think of silver I just can’t really appreciate the character. He’s very much just a rip off of a character from a franchise that sonic has already ripped off of before, he’s just so blatantly unoriginal that I just couldn’t ever understand the appeal. Sonic and shadow certainly have been compared to goku and vegeta, but there’s so many differences between those pairs that it just feels like a comparison for comparisons sake. But silver? That’s literally just trunks and they’ve gone on record themselves saying that.
@SquidwardProfilePic Yeah. But besides the concept of "Time Traveler from the Future" the personalities are not really similar. Plus Trunks didn't go back in time to kill Goku. And Trunks is never involved in conspiracy theory plots like Silver does in the comics.
There's this fun moment in Team Sonic Racing where Sonic is trying to engage in some back-and-forth friendly trash talk with Silver, and it just completely goes over Silver's head. The Sonic media post-06 really went above and beyond to salvage Silver as a character, especially the IDW comics.
I find that in Sonic 06, Silver is an angry dork. Now he is more portrayed as an optimistic and young dork. I think that 06 Silver was great for that game, but generally I really like the way he is portrayed these days😅
I prefer his characterization in 06 honestly, he felt like a more interesting balance between Sonic's light-heartedness and Shadow's stoicism. He had a strong sense of justice that was balanced out by his more caring and optimistic side, which showed throughout his story in 06. Nowadays he kinda feels flanderizes, his whole personality boils down to being a lovable cinnamon roll and not much else. I miss when he could be a genuine menace, someone Sonic and Shadow had to watch out for.
@@seematahir5970I agree. I wish there was a better balance between menacing and being a pretty lighthearted guy. His portrayal in 06 was honestly really good (despite the game not being it) at showing how he balances out Sonic and Shadow’s traits. You can actual see that Silver never really smiles in 06, but in the comic, you can constantly find panels of him smiling, which tells you how Silver definitely got less “emotionless.” Maybe that’s just because his future was saved and so he doesn’t need to put on a tough exterior, or it’s just that they were trying to make Silver an “optimistic realist.” I think it’s nice to see Silver smiling more, and seeing how he’s a more, yes you’ve heard this word before multiple times, dorky like character, it’s a good contrast compared to the super uptight Shadow, and the too cool, chill Sonic. However, it does diminish how Silver can be seen as menacing. I mean, if Silver truly wanted to, he could quite literally pull a devastating move with his powers, but a lot of people just see him kinda defenseless which I don’t think is fair for the guy. Not saying I don’t like how he’s kinda like the guy who says: “Wait for me!” While Shadow and Sonic are already off doing their own thing when he’s trailing back, but I definitely appreciate the scenes where he’s like “get out of my way, Sonic,” throwing people around to get into serious business. I hope there’s going to be a year for Silver, as we literally don’t know who Silver is and his goals. How he came to be, and what made him Silver. We already know Shadow’s past, and a little bit of Sonic, but we don’t know Silver. He’s quite literally the unintentional mystery of the Sonic franchise.
@@astratball now here is what we really need, we need old (06) silver to meet up with new (cinnamon roll) silver in like a comic or something, because legally they are entirely different characters that both exist in the continuity, old silver is from the future of the timeline destroyed by Iblis, while new silver is from the new timeline post 06, the one that gets destroyed by whatever is in the current arc (eg metal virus). we just need more of old silver in general, because out of the 3 games he shows up in, one is a mobile game (runners), one he gets swiped out for new silver halfway through (generations) and the other IS SONIC 06
@robertoneill589 They could make a Ultilty Belt Buzz type villian out of PreAquatic Base Silver and use Lyric to give Silver some villians to fight against.
two details about Silver's design that sadly never got implemented, is that his hair was supposed to stay down until he used his Powers, similarly, his bracelets & boot rings also were supposed to open to reveal the glowing parts so, yeah Silver's current design is technically his "powered up" form
I like how he looks like the future is SUPPOSED to be. He’s all white and smooth and sleek and energized with those lines but crisis city is all red and black, burned and scorched completely opposite of silver’s idealistic concept of what the future holds
I have played through the entirity of Sonic 06 and I can say that Silver's design and personality are one of the few good things to come out of that game. My personal take is that he was designed to contrast Shadow more than Sonic, like his white and cyan/blue color palette opposing Shadow's black and red Shadow fought Sonic at first because he wanted to bring destruction, while Silver fought Sonic because he tought he could save the world doing so. Shadow acts quiet and more adult than the characters while Silver is so pure and optimist that sometimes he even looks childish. Shadow's gameplay in S06 is all about moving fast and destroying everything while Silver gameplay is based on solving problems with his telekinesis, slowing down and thinking. Maybe I'm overanalyzing a trashcan, but I believe they tried to create an "Anti-Shadow" for the next big rival of Sonic at that time
even though the game ended up rushed and bad in the end i still think we should respect the art and genuine effort that was put into it. i will always appreciate how 06 tried to tell such an ambitious story, even if the game failed. i still think if we had gotten a sonic 07 or sonic 08 it could've been an amazing game
I also enjoy the fact that his naivete was taken advantage of by his mentor who, by that point, was a copy of a certain someone. It shows in the frustration of fighting him as an enemy, because he is an annoying fight, but he just clicks when playing as him towards the end, because he now has the mentor that he's supposed to have.
I unironically like Silver’s gameplay alot, it's not great, it is 06 after all, but there's a lot of potential in it, like puzzle solving for example. I wish Sega would expirement with him more but I guess he's just lined up as another one of Sonic's friends.
Whats really cool about blaze is that her design does alot of things to contrast sonic. Purple fur is the inverse of sonics green eyes and yellow eyes is the inverse of sonics blue fur is one that I remember
snapcube has forever changed how i look at silver for the better by making him a weird kid with like 5 different backstories and a childish wonder to literaly everything
My first introduction to Silver was via the Snapcube dub, and I immediately was like "this one. This one is blorbo." I love his Snapecube version so much that it retroactively made me fall in love with canon Silver.
It's a hand! It was supposed to default in a 'closed' position around his head and then open when he used his powers, but I guess they liked the 'active' silhouette a lot more.
@@DeeCross No, it’s meant to resemble a Japanese maple leaf, which represent peace, serenity, survival, prosperity etc. All things that make sense considering what Silver is trying to achieve.
I like how they "balance" Silver's personality. He's a strong fighter with an even stronger drive to change the future, but he's also optimistic and almost naive at times. This is especially shown in recent media like the IDW comics where he's fanboying over Whisper when he first meets her because he saw her almost like a guardian angel to the Resistance. It really shows that despite the world he comes from, he's young enough that it hasn't crushed his spirit just yet.
Fun fact, his psycokinesis doesn't actually have a color, the color comes from his gloves that he got from his allies in the future, they gave them to him because they couldn't tell if he was using his power or not So to anyone who doesn't look at fan art, have fun with the images of Silver without gloves
Silver is very unapologetically the Future Trunks to Sonic's Goku and Shadow's Vegeta, right down to his role in most of his appearances in the games. He's always coming from the future to stop some oncoming threat, on his debut in 06 this was pivotal to the story and you get this beautiful CGI cutscene of Silver flying around his ruined future, in most games since it's kind of just an excuse for Silver to be around.
"Silver is very unapologetically the Future Trunks to Sonic's Goku and Shadow's Vegeta" *looks over to Sonic and the Black Knights Lancelot and Galahad* hmmm, very unapologetic.
@@mattybutler1985 Sonic: Silver, what the he- oh wait. *Ahem* Who the heck are you? Galahad: My name is Galahad, son of Sir Lancelot. and I shalt defe- Sonic: SHADOW'S YOU'RE DAD?!
He’s also the character that seems to have the most personality changes out of all the Sonic characters. In 06, he never smiles, is serious, naive, but also compassionate and hopeful. Also, has the tendency to yell “ IT’S NO USE”. In the Rivals series, he’s way more brash, aggressive, and is always telling everyone to move out of his way, which is ironic, coming from the guy with PSYCHIC powers. He still has his nice moments, but he still never smiles in those games. Then in the 2010s, he’s a lot more chill and level headed, while still retaining his snarkiness. (He also smiled for the first time!) And then we have TSR, which made him a bit more childish and somewhat oblivious. Dude’s a jack of all trades when it comes to personality.
Silver's more chill snark from his earlier 2010s incarnations and his naivety from TSR are blended a lot more delicately through his comic appearances, both in the later Archie comics as well as his IDW appearances. He gets to have the contrast of being a powerful ally who will do what needs to be done and wants to help the team and achieve his goals while also having some amount of childlike wonder from all he gets to experience in time periods where things aren't destroyed and there are people for him to be friends with. TSR being a spinoff game gets to explore the more comedic aspects of that concept while his more serious appearances get to explore other facets of it, so I don't think the two are necessarily contradictory.
06 = a struggling future like future trunks rivals = kid trunks with a bright future 2010 = gt trunks living in a peaceful future tsr = the descendent of trunks in a peaceful world
Fun fact, where I live the voice cast for the main games got solidified with Sonic X, like they dubbed the show and they kinda went from there to cast for the games. When Silver appeared, he got Chris Thorndyke's VA xD
From what I remember about 06 (which admittedly could be mistaken), Silver's opening cutscene does KINDA translate the psychic powers in his head crest, mostly from the way his quills(?) move as he floats and flies, but for most of it, they just use the basic light blue glow
If I had a nickle for every time this week this channel had talked about a character named Silver, I would have two nickels - which isnt alot, but its weird that it happend twice.
Silver has always been my favorite sonic character, his theme from 06 is amazing as well (which I learned that the song was made to be a break up song for the singer's boyfriend) and I just wish they would put him into more modern sonic games
Silver's head crest also always reminded me of a Lotus flower? connected with spriitual enlightenment, purity and rebirth. pretty fitting for a hedgehog that came back to the past to make the future better, to *rebirth* what comes next
Silver was one of the very good things Sonic 06 gave us. his colors - including his cyan glow when using his powers - is really neat. his personality is someone who’s determined to do good for others and the future, but that determination makes him a little naive!
"My name is Trun-I mean Silver... the Hedgehog. yeah that was it. I'm here to save Go-SONIC... Sonic. He's a blue Saiy... Hedgehog! Know him???" *Looks around nervously*
I can say, as someone who still has her copy of 06, and was introduced to Silver through that, his design is some of the MOST effective in the game. He immediately draws you in and makes you feel for him and he comes across appropriately tragic and determined. The game played terribly, but I tried to push through it to see what happened to Silver.
As much as I LOVE his boots and gloves, they don’t make AS much sense given his environment. He looks sleek and futuristic, but his future is…like…hell. It’s just hell. However, Silver is a very hopeful and optimistic character, so I still think it works because he represents the future he wants, not the future he’s been given
Unironically Silver and Blaze are my two favorite Sonic characters because of how well they serve their roles despite being far from the main focus. A classic case of underrated characters who don’t do much in the grand scheme of things, but are excellent when and where they do appear.
No. His story in ‘06 was great, and there’s nowhere to take him after that point. He shouldn’t have even come back in the first place, but that would only be made worse if he had a new game.
@Hewasnumber1 Maybe a retelling of his story, like some kinda alternate timeline type stuff? If Shadow can have his own game shooting people with guns, I don't see why Silver can't have his own game jumping through time and launching enemies into orbit with his mind. I'd say there's a big opportunity being lost here...
He also has by far one of the best themes in the series (which you played in this video!). It's such a unique track that I couldn't imagine finding anything similar somewhere else.
Watching my brother playing S06 is one of my favorite childhood memories and that has to do a LOT with Silver. I remember being fascinated by the way he contrasted with Sonic and, especially, Shadow with his light colors and futuristic looks. And I thought his design was very clever too with the way his quills became straighter with his powers and the cyan stood out amongst the colors of the game just like he was an outsider! (mind u, I was a kid so clearly not an expert). To this day, Silver is still my favorite Sonic character and I looove the way his character is being portrayed in recent media too!
I have never been able to interact with Silver, but his Blaze is not a Blaze I know. Blaze is from another dimension and has her own set of "Sol Emeralds" with a Burning Blaze transformation; She's super fun in Sonic Rush, I'd immediately buy a Sonic Rush 3 on Switch. Silver doesn't exist in any of the games I've played except as a bonus pvp character in Black Knight. Introducing Silver as an entirely different type of character in a Sonic Rush 3 as someone from Blaze's dimension would be very cool. And if we time skip, Marine and Tails can both be older and more capable, added as playable. It'd slap.
I love Pothead the porcupine. But his design is strong, I just wish they kept the elements of his head spines relaxed and the bracelets closed until he is using his powers.
If I had to address Silver's design in 06, it had the most thought in the little things about it. Not only did Silver's design do a bit of what the video entailed, but in 06 specifically, Silver had two states, his inactive mode and active mode. While inactive, Silver's quills would actually slick back somewhat, implying a rest state, while his bracelets and anklets were closed shut, as if to sell the notion that he has some inexperience with using his powers without these checks. When active, Silver looks like he usually does in the art with the glowing lines from the open seals, his front quills staning on end and such, which does give the idea of him unleashing his true state. Sadly this little detail has been left out of use ever since his debut, however, as the common route is for Silver in modern art is just that his bracelets are always in the active state along with his hair essentially defaulting to the standing look.
This character is one of the few....silver linings to come out of the 06 dispite it's many faults is often over hated. Silver the hedgehog is one of my favorite sonic characters, hes so compassionate, kind, and hopeful plus his powers are really cool
Concept art of Silver's finalized design show that the fan of quills on his head was originally only supposed to stand up when he uses his psychokinetic abilities. They would have laid flat otherwise. This was never implemented in Sonic 06, likely due to time constraints. SEGA/Sonic Team have apparently never bothered to bring this comcept back into Silver's character.
He's also easy to look cute and innocent. Especially in the comics. This boy is a masive dork and every day we fight for his happy future as much as he does for us. 10/10 boy.
MY BOY MY BOY MY BOY- I've always loved Silver, and I'm glad he's getting more recognition and respect, since I remember he used to be always the butt of the joke in the early fandom days.
I honestly think that Silvers design is slightly based off of Nazo’s design. Because Nazo was not originally a fan made character but did grow in popularity extremely quickly and pretty much became a fan made character before Sonic 06 was a thing. (Nazo backstory) Nazo was originally from a Sonic X promo even though he was only in it for about a split second. Meaning he is technically an official sonic character and the main theory (which I think got confirmed) is that he was a place holder design for a Sonic X version of Super Sonic and was accidentally left in the promo video. Also the name Nazo comes from the file name of the image used in that Sonic X promo which also means the word Mystery. Basically I wouldn’t be surprised if Silver’s design was actually inspired by Nazo. Considering they are both white/silver hedgehogs with kind of similar spikes to an extent. (minus the weed shape obviously) both can fly and both possess incredible power.
I've always liked Silver's design, that 06 era with characters like Silver and Blaze, Sonic Team hit their stride with making character designs that still look good decades later and beloved by many. Silver's Sir Galahad look is still unmatched in my eyes its just SO COOL
Sonic O6 is a weird game. It's not a good game but it has some good moments. Shadow drops the hardest line in his story which really sums up who he is.
He doesn't really look like the future he supposedly comes from (I actually have no idea what his backstory is after Sonic 06, but I'm going off that first game). His all white design and sleek techy gloves and boots implies the bad future he comes from is some sort of tech dystopia where everyone is a slave to the system or some corporate thing like that, instead of the grungey, depopulated destroyed city he actually comes from. On the one hand, the way he looks immediately makes it clear where and when comes from. But on the other hand it might have been intriguing and cool if the character from the future subverted that assumption by looking like he came from a less technologically evolved society.
When I was little I always thought he was the coolest of the bunch. I remember playing as him in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games... man, how time flies.
I mean, i'm not gonna lie: stuff like Apothecary is the kind of class i love in games. It's the desire to go for the weirdo class, or generally a class that works differently to the others. It's a weird fantasy, but that would be the appeal here - or it was if it was real.
I had never played a Sonic game, but Siover was always my favorite ever since I saw him fly when I selected him in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
i think the homages in his design to future trunks also really help, and are a super fun nod, especially with his quills looking a little reminiscent of trunks going super sayian

Devs: We just think he is neat.
Fans: Fair enough.
Silver is just a really cool character all around. I think for both more meme reasons like that whole scene where Shadow kicked him in the back of the head (classic) or the whole IT'S NO USE or the more serious aspects like him being naive but well meaning in his mission it's hard to forget Silver.
They did 2 good things in 06, silver and mephiles
You can actual see that Silver never really smiles in 06, but in the comic, you can constantly find panels of him smiling, which tells you how Silver definitely got less “emotionless.” Maybe that’s just because his future was saved and so he doesn’t need to put on a tough exterior, or it’s just that they were trying to make Silver an “optimistic realist.”
I think it’s nice to see Silver smiling more, and seeing how he’s a more, yes you’ve heard this word before multiple times, dorky like character, it’s a good contrast compared to the super uptight Shadow, and the too cool, chill Sonic.
@robertoneill589 They could make a Ultilty Belt Buzz type villian out of PreAquatic Base Silver and use Lyric to give Silver some villians to fight against.
two details about Silver's design that sadly never got implemented, is that his hair was supposed to stay down until he used his Powers, similarly, his bracelets & boot rings also were supposed to open to reveal the glowing parts
so, yeah Silver's current design is technically his "powered up" form
I like how he looks like the future is SUPPOSED to be. He’s all white and smooth and sleek and energized with those lines but crisis city is all red and black, burned and scorched completely opposite of silver’s idealistic concept of what the future holds
I have played through the entirity of Sonic 06 and I can say that Silver's design and personality are one of the few good things to come out of that game.
My personal take is that he was designed to contrast Shadow more than Sonic, like his white and cyan/blue color palette opposing Shadow's black and red
Shadow fought Sonic at first because he wanted to bring destruction, while Silver fought Sonic because he tought he could save the world doing so.
Honestly I rank Silver as the second-best narrative in the game, with Shadow at #1 and Sonic, ironically, in last place.
Shadow is from the past and Silver from the future.. BOTH IN MULTIPLES OF 5 😅
I also enjoy the fact that his naivete was taken advantage of by his mentor who, by that point, was a copy of a certain someone.
Now do Blaze!! I was obsessed with her as a kid. Was really happy to see a female Sonic character who was cool, serious, heroic and extremely powerful
He's going to have to resist making every furry joker imaginable if he does that short...
Whats really cool about blaze is that her design does alot of things to contrast sonic. Purple fur is the inverse of sonics green eyes and yellow eyes is the inverse of sonics blue fur is one that I remember
@@Hario338 Plus, Burning Blaze being a complete opposite of Super Sonic palettewise (red w/ gold eyes as opposed to gold w/ red eyes
And?
"Chili dogs optimism" is so strange yet perfectly descriptive
snapcube has forever changed how i look at silver for the better by making him a weird kid with like 5 different backstories and a childish wonder to literaly everything
I mean... in some ways that's not far off from canon
My first introduction to Silver was via the Snapcube dub, and I immediately was like "this one. This one is blorbo." I love his Snapecube version so much that it retroactively made me fall in love with canon Silver.
finally..
a grand slam
Wait is that a rock?
Ok but other then 06 thats almost his real personality?
Everyone makes fun of how Silver's head quills look like a cannabis leaf.
It has tge same effect as mint candy to tails increasing his flight duration in tails sky patrol
It makes them go high
* badum tiss *
My headcanon is that's how hedgehogs look in the future.
His quills are actually modeled after a maple leaf.
It's a hand! It was supposed to default in a 'closed' position around his head and then open when he used his powers, but I guess they liked the 'active' silhouette a lot more.
@@DeeCross
No, it’s meant to resemble a Japanese maple leaf, which represent peace, serenity, survival, prosperity etc.
I've always liked Silver and his design, even though I never played Sonic 06 as a kid. Also, his theme is very underrated IMO
Fun fact, his psycokinesis doesn't actually have a color, the color comes from his gloves that he got from his allies in the future, they gave them to him because they couldn't tell if he was using his power or not
So to anyone who doesn't look at fan art, have fun with the images of Silver without gloves
That could've been *really* funny if Galahad was more than just a Multiplayer character.
@@Kage-pm6qiNow I'm imagining Silver acting like a certain purple-haired version of Galahad. :p
@@mattybutler1985

Galahad: My name is Galahad, son of Sir Lancelot. and I shalt defe-
Sonic: SHADOW'S YOU'RE DAD?!
Yeah cuz unlike Sonic and Shadow, Silver is explicitly based on a Dragon Ball character that being Future Trunks
(He also smiled for the first time!)
And then we have TSR, which made him a bit more childish and somewhat oblivious.
Dude’s a jack of all trades when it comes to personality.
Which, whether intentionally or not, might reflect how different he turned out to be in a timeline that's not destroyed by Iblis.
Rivals was effectively used to reintroduce Silver as a character after the events of 06 were erased.
06 = a struggling future like future trunks
rivals = kid trunks with a bright future
2010 = gt trunks living in a peaceful future
tsr = the descendent of trunks in a peaceful world
_"Okay, but can you say that any of the others befriended Donkey Kong?"_
My brother during a discussion about the possibility of a Silver comeback
never played it, not a sonic fan, but comes off as vaguely angelic to me, like a supernatural messenger
Going an entire short about silver without mentioning trunks is commendable
I love that this was two videos after silver the Pokémon character
silver is actually my favorite design in the entire franchise! i just think he’s neat
I have never played Sonic 06 (or any game with Silver in it for that matter), but
"Dreams of an Absolution" my beloved
“I never played Sonic 06” good, I wouldn’t wish that on my greatest enemy (its really bad)
The story is mostly pretty good tho and Mephiles is still the best Sonic villain imo
@ and the gameplay?
@shane_the_ok4813 not so good
I have platinumed it, and I 100% agree.
Singer's boyfriend ? Where do you people fantasize these things ?
@ghostpinguin They said it themself, Bentley Jones said on here that the lyrics was about how their boyfriend broke up with them.
Silver's head crest also always reminded me of a Lotus flower? connected with spriitual enlightenment, purity and rebirth. pretty fitting for a hedgehog that came back to the past to make the future better, to *rebirth* what comes next
“That’s very suggestive of you, but if you’re offering, then I’d be happy to, you know..?”
“……what?”
His gold eyes match well with Blaze's too!
Silver needs his own game, at least to make up for his debut in '06.
THEY CALL HIM THE DRINK🗣🔥🔥🔥
THEY CALL HIM THE WHAT?🗣🔥🔥🔥
A BEVERAGE OF SORTS?🗣🔥🔥🔥
I think it's funny that you did Silver from Sonic and Silver from Pokemon back to back, and think I wouldn't notice.
Sonic is always living in the present, most of Shadows thing is being stuck in the past, and Silver is trying to fix his future.
I was waiting for you to do sonic characters again, can't wait for Cream the Rabbit design analysis.
“Chilidog optimism” I’m using that
Watching my brother playing S06 is one of my favorite childhood memories and that has to do a LOT with Silver. To this day, Silver is still my favorite Sonic character and I looove the way his character is being portrayed in recent media too!
dreams of absolution is the peak of singed songs in the franchise
It'd slap.
Silver needs the Shadow treatment to remind people how is character actually is. Took way too long to get Shadow's character right again.
Silver, the Denny's is that way!
Finally, a Grand Slam
“IF THEY SET THAT ANDROID FREE IT WILL BE THE END OF ALL OF US! NOOOOOO!!!” Yeah silver is literally just trunks but less badass.
“Chilli dogs optimism”
Bro hittin that Jamiroquai command grab pose like he was born to do it
Silver is a hopeful character, someone who has hope that the nightmare of a future that he lives on can be changed for better.
Damn, we got 2 Silver character design videos in a row
Man, I wish we could play more silver. Saga could make a killer 3d puzzle game with him and still keep combat
He's also easy to look cute and innocent. Especially in the comics. This boy is a masive dork and every day we fight for his happy future as much as he does for us. 10/10 boy.
Perfect.
Snapcube is my only point of reference, so whenever I see him my brain just goes “pathetic twink”

I've always loved Silver, and I'm glad he's getting more recognition and respect, since I remember he used to be always the butt of the joke in the early fandom days.
I love Silver
I've been waiting for this episode. I have to say I never really thought about his design like this. Thanks for pointing all of this out.
Wait. We got a Silver short just yesterday!
It's no use!
It's cool you reviewd him. He's my favorite.
W E E D G E H O G
I honestly think that Silvers design is slightly based off of Nazo’s design. Because Nazo was not originally a fan made character but did grow in popularity extremely quickly and pretty much became a fan made character before Sonic 06 was a thing.
(Nazo backstory)
Nazo was originally from a Sonic X promo even though he was only in it for about a split second.
Meaning he is technically an official sonic character and the main theory (which I think got confirmed)
is that he was a place holder design for a Sonic X version of Super Sonic and was accidentally left in the promo video.
Back to back Silvers, huh?
“I’ve never played Sonic ‘06.” This man must be protected.
I am taking so many notes from your channel
Iphone slick white colour scheme, that is new
youre looking waaaaaay to deep into this and i love it
Not rlly. The description sounds pretty spot on
Calling an official sonic character a "sonic oc" is wild lmao. Not in a bad way
I've always liked Silver's design, that 06 era with characters like Silver and Blaze, Sonic Team hit their stride with making character designs that still look good decades later and beloved by many.
Now we have silver just popping into sonic’s timeline for fun now
Silver el jeshejojo cabeza de maria Juana🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
Silver's design makes you pay more attention to his head first so it did it's job
Step 1: Take future trunks from dragon ball
Step 2: Make him a hedgehog
I have a friend that always calls him weed-head, and because of him I can’t unsee it (now I also call him Weed-head from time to time)
I mean, i'm not gonna lie: stuff like Apothecary is the kind of class i love in games. It's the desire to go for the weirdo class, or generally a class that works differently to the others.
It's a weird fantasy, but that would be the appeal here - or it was if it was real.
Trunks the Futurehog
Gotta grudgingly agree with Hanson, games are all over the place but sonic characters for better or worse are iconic as hell
I had never played a Sonic game, but Siover was always my favorite ever since I saw him fly when I selected him in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
I low-key DID NOT realize they changed his kicks at one point
Dreams of an Absolution is such a good song (that compliments his design!)
"I'd like to be in the friend zone. I like friends!"
i think the homages in his design to future trunks also really help, and are a super fun nod, especially with his quills looking a little reminiscent of trunks going super sayian
Silver's design is what I like most about the character.
Sega heroes Silver? Nostalgia just hit me
0:10 I noticed that with Silver, his Personality is the balance between Sonic and Shadow.
