      @ Islam always win? Do you sense the media is manipulating it? The media wanted more of this, "defender of Islam" to come out. It only drive more stress for muslims and fear among non-muslims. At the end, the religion get the bad name. Fanning fake news also would tarnish, the reputation of not having anything truthful. The media seemingly innocently reports it, but the harm is there. Heard of any good news on the religion so far? Reacting to non-sense is walking into a trap for long term damage.

    • @VictorTan
      @VictorTan  День назад

      Now how much of what you say, Danial, would be because of the religion itself and how much would be because of human made institutions artificially created to go against the idea that there is no compulsion in religion and because people who enter into the faith are condemned to remain there forever and never leave? 😅

    • @pym75
      @pym75 День назад

      @@VictorTan Islam is under threat from within. The rest of us just got caught in the whirl wind. Ex-muslims the obvious case, causing alot of issues worldwide (these are not atheist, they are worse). But those who wanted to leave but could not, ultimately either not practicing it sliently or quietly causing damage, rift and conflict with other religions/government to crack the religion from outside. Harith's satire is on muslims who are easily confused about their own practices and not about the religion. It is precisely the reflection of those silently not practicing true Islam are doing, buat dunno, buat keliru.
      Religious authorities should make effort to stop muslims from damaging their religion and the relationship with other communities and also stop politcal exploit. Showing the claw and tooth ultimately will brand the religion as bad, exactly what those who wanted to leave the religion wanted the religion to be seen, as bad. If the religious authorities does not step it to stop it, would only leave the religion with disrepute. Those who wanted to leave but could not will try to induce conflict of Islam and other communities, to the point they hope the religion ceased, banned and they can be free. This is something the religious authorities should think seriously about. What is worth of having conflict with other communities with it is detrimental to the religion itself? Islamophobia exist as a term today.

    I believe you have read my comment on my "factual statement" approach on this issue? Basically the idea is that I don't want to give a full apology, but I want to defend myself politely. Do you think it will work? Do you think it is too timid for someone like you who advocates directly speaking up against hate?

    • @VictorTan
      @VictorTan  7 дней назад +2

      I think that it could work, but you would still have people who are extremely loud and for whom it would not work.
      And with that in mind, a factual post on balance, I think, is more likely to be neutral for those who already see that this isn’t something to rage on but for those who are angered already it is likely to just add on another point and for people to comment on (and can therefore serve as a place for the heightening of aggressions depending on what happens), but it could also be good as something to continue the conversation, so long as it can be managed over time, and serve as a tool to neutralize the ones who are angered over time through continued interaction, though clearly not everyone has the time for comments.
      Having said that, it only takes just one person to complain, or perhaps two people to the point that you start thinking that maybe it's crowd or herd mentality.
      In a sense, I think that it's not really possible to eliminate negative responses or reactions entirely, although I do think that it is both possible and manageable to type things over.
      In a sense, what I do think is that if Harith manages to type over and go through this, then by the end of the whole situation, Malaysia will have learned something that is meaningful when it comes to dealing with matters like this, which are sensitive and will have gotten a little closer towards living and letting others live as well. But I think that this time is crucial, and what happens with Harith is going to affect how we see ourselves and in turn how we define our approach towards other situations like this in the future and so I hope that it's going to be a mature response on the part of the Malaysian public, and that we can move towards having at least a critical mass of people who can come up with the willpower at least to recognize that a joke is a joke, even if you don't like it personally, and if you don't like it, you should ignore it.
      Hopefully some kind of immunity then is built up in Malaysia along the way 🙏

      It's true what you've said. Comedy is, in fact, a form of art.
      But, as with any type of art, though, there are archetypes of excellence and continuums over which each archetype may vary (say, closeness to human form as an ideal, with more close being better and less close being worse, but not to the exclusion of other archetypes of beauty or to the necessary inclusion of a particular archetype - it would not do to say that a photorealistic painting of a bowl of fruit is bad because it contains no semblance to a human) that make some art better than others, and there are some boundaries that do exist, at least in what we can call an Overton window of what is acceptable in the artistic world even as we appreciate that communities are formed from multiple individuals with their own preferences, standards of acceptability, and behavioral inclinations even as we accept the limitations both of language and human cognition in appreciating what is communicated in an evolving world.
      Some would say that the universe of art has unlimited boundaries, and that everything that is sacred can and should be considered profane, used as material for the laugh or the criticism.
      Spiritually speaking, I am inclined to identify with that.
      But, in practice, I am sure that there are many thousands of things out there which would offend me, and about which I would object if it were presented to me.
      The question is almost never “should there be boundaries” if we think about it long enough, because it is uncontroversial that there are boundaries to speech and also uncontroversial that we accept at least some of these, though it is popular to imagine that there should be none.
      For example, you would not want someone to mock the death of your parents and call it humour, or participate in what we call bullying of other races, simply because it is said that certain things are a joke, partly because that circumscribes the rights of others.
      In a similar way, we cannot expect every single person to laugh at every single thing and living in a society is uncontroversially a situation where we circumscribe some freedom of speech at least partially.
      At least in some ways, it is true that not every complaint should be entertained, but some definitely should be.
      And the question is, which one?
      With what response, and in what way, so that all members of a pluralistic society can agree upon its fairness, and the element of bias on the part of the legal system can meaningfully be minimised in lockstep, with the way that its perception of bias can be minimised, satirist paribus, while educating the society sufficiently that the part of prejudice on the part of the public too can be minimised, and any deviations from the law can be minimised?
      Not really an easy set of questions to answer, but crucial to explore at least!

    Should ask the Muslim "yang terpaling" when they perform the haj or umrah in the holy land to visit the convenience stores there and see for themselves HAM being sold openly that are halal ( read non pork) and nobody makes a hue and cry over it. This again show the level of intelligence and understanding of world issues at hand. • @VictorTan
      @VictorTan  6 дней назад +1

      Thing is, their statements are inconsistent and it is unsurprising that that’s the case.
      You can see people mention that ‘ham’ is illegal to be sold as halal or perhaps with JAKIM halal certification across multiple instances but then it is clear to me that there are multiple kinds of halal posing items out there, which may actually be halal, but just haven't separately applied for certifications that JAKIM would have them apply for as a grounds for charging a separate fee for another certification which, by the way, is mainly paid by non Muslims (70% of all halal certs are held by non Muslims) for the purpose of marketing and that the others like to cry about and say oops, we are M we don’t need these certificates.
      In all fairness, I'm not surprised that Harith would have a confusion about the matter even as a practicing Muslim (assuming that there was a confusion), because the sheer list of requirements and updates that happen on the daily are difficult to follow, and require intentioned effort for a person to actually know the current state at any given point.
      A reasonable person is very unlikely to have the knowledge that would be required of them to make intentioned judgements of matters like these, and expecting every single person or even the average person to clearly know what the issues are and brooking no compromise is unrealistic.
      The broader point that I'm trying to make through what I'm saying though, and which I think that you realize, is that our society needs to get better at tolerating stupid people, because stupidity is not the exception, but rather it is the norm. If our society were to continue going out and becoming aggravated at every single instance of low IQ behavior, that would clearly be a problem. Of course, if we didn't go out and speak about clear instances where somebody had not done their research, or at least had a minimum level of awareness, then that would be a problem as well - but there is a fine line there, because the level you need to be at just to be aligned with the truth is wild.
      What you mentioned is an interesting example of that.
      It's interesting to know that there is halal ham on hajj.
      But that just shows the difference in jurisprudential interpretation and manifested law across jurisdictions where the Malaysian authorities, it seems, chose to ensure that that which is halal cannot be connected with ham - a quirk of the Malaysian system - which evidently is not present in Saudi Arabia as a jurisdiction, either if there is no comparable halal certification or that such a certification even if it exists and applies to the products you saw, does not entail non-usage of the terms ‘ham’ or ‘bacon’ etc - that illustrates the difficulty of interpretation in the first place.
      When it comes to situations where there are arcane or human-made rules brought about from interpretations of source material put into place whereby such interpretations require a person to have maximum awareness and perspicacity in checking for things, I think it is good to recognize human failing and also human flaws, and as such to have a little bit of empathy or compassion, rather than to allow emotion and everything it brings to just take over the moment and to define the narrative.
      People often feel like they have the right to grouse and society tends to simply allow such displays of emotion, or does not punish them, proclaiming that they are closer to appropriate than anything that vaguely offends some people of the right leanings. It is a condition of clear hypocrisy, and if it is not known domestically just yet, then it should be. And if it were not known internationally before, then we should make it - People who attempt to take matters into their own hands should be uniformly and universally punished.

      @VictorTan well said. Funny how the Malays here are quick to brand other Muslims around the world as not practicing Islam as it should be when we see here that bribery is regarded as "sedekah" while paying fines is considered " derma jihad".
      Rainfall over in Saudi is far and in between so whenever it rains for just 30 minutes or so the drainage would be overwhelmed thus flooding the roads. We here are of the opinion that a desert country when flooded would signify " akhir ZAMAN" thus accusing them of not following the true principles is Islam. How I know all these is because my daughter is working there and sometimes the Arabs themselves shake their head at our ignorance. I think we have to most number of " terpaling Islam" citizens judging by the online comments and the eagerness to jump on any issue pertaining to the " sensitivity" of their religion .

      Maybe cause it does happen once in a while, but these people think on a very primitive level and like to assume that all people who are non Malay care about race and religion 25/7 when frankly it would be so much better in this country if we didn’t care about this and anyone who starts a conversation about that is either socially ostracized or silenced (IMO) because neither of those things is really relevant in the grand scheme of things because who you are is not determined by who you were born as (unless you are Muslim and you stay in Malaysia - that is a fact that cannot be changed whether people like it or not), but then our current reality doesn’t look like that and whoops, we actually and unfortunately have to have conversations about this c’est la vie. 😭
