Shirou Emiya’s Elemental Affinity changed to Sword, not his Origin. His Origin has always been Sword. You can’t change an Origin that easily, if at all. So essentially, Shirou’s Elemental Affinity, which was changed by Avalon, is suited for the concept of “swords”, and Shirou’s very existence is the concept of sword. That’s why Shirou is so great at tracing and replicating Noble phantasms, something other mages would have zero hope of doing.
Sora Ad Caelum no it isn’t: typemoon.fandom.com/wiki/Avalon#cite_ref-6 “All it does when Saber isn’t around is make Shirou’s magic attribute “Sword” ~ Fate/Complete Material III There is no mention whatsoever on it affecting his Origin. Origins shouldn’t change that easily. Sword has always been his origin.
I loved the concept of origins and elements when I first found out and still do considering the unlimited potential in fate they have as well as a Narrative
Shirou's Origin had nothing to do with Avalon. His origin was also most likely changed by the effective death and rebirth of his personality in the great Fuyuki fire. It's normally almost impossible to change an origin, but that incident is possibly one of the few situations extreme enough to facilitate such a change, as the trauma basically scrubbed his soul clean, on the brink of returning to the Root, before it was pulled back by Kiritsugu using a miraculous artifact to save him. His origin, sword, reflects the philosophy that Shirou adopted when he met Kiritsugu and saw how happy the later was to save even a single person. Shirou decided that to save others is the best thing ever, basically. A sword is a weapon that can be used to save someone, but has no intrinsic value outside of how it can be used by others. The value of its existence is defined completely by how it can serve someone. Just like Shirou, who defines his value completely by how he can help others. Also, how can you say that Kiritsugu's origins had no significant impact on his life? He formed several strong relationships over his lifetime, his father, Shirley, Natalia, Maya, Iri, Illyasviel and Shirou. And, one by one, almost all of these were severed, often by him in pursuit of his goal. He bound himself to others then severed those bonds.
I would like to couple the "Avalon changed Origin" thing back onto this theory, as Avalon was the thing that dragged Shirou back from the Root, perhaps it imprinted on his blank soul, creating the Origin of Sword, which would only further be solidified by Kirigutsu.
"The Origin" is known as "Dharma" in the vedas. If someone reaches nirvana, they will learn their origin and if they choose to stay on the planet, they would be called a Bodhisattva. There's a Vedic astrology chart that shows your Constellation house element. Mine is water and I used it as a medium during meditation to increase sensitivity. It worked. I know my Origin, and I'm very thankful for it but it's true that it consumes everything. My theory on it is that, our origins are kept from us to prevent obsession. That's the biggest difference between human and Fae, humans are given a "fresh" start while fae know who they are at all times. It's incredibly difficult to find balance while living in society if you are a mage
So Shirou's stand will be the same type of stand as Silver Chariot, Shiki's will be a One Hit Kill type, and so on? On the flip side, Joseph's origin is prediction, Josuke's is fixing, Giorno's is life, and other Josuke is steal

Sensei, i think you should do a video on kotonime kirei, he's a very unique character and I'm pretty sure his origin was "opening wounds" which allowed him to be a spirit surgeon and is considered a witch doctor among magi.
@@shadowclaw7210 Unless Type Moon has already covered those, I think it's up to interpretation. It is a concept after all. I'd like to think Lancer has the origin misfortune lol. Illusion could be literal, or it could mean not being authentic or seen for who you truly are. Dragon is almost like what Artoria is.
Wait wait wait, if Kiritsugu's origin is activated once it enters an enemy. Doesn't that mean that if they were to make origin rounds from Shirou's ribs, it would have an effect as well, for example: Create swords from the inside out of an enemy?
I'm surprised that you didn't bring up that there are rare cases that one could change their Origin and Element under very rare cases. Because if I remember correctly, wasn't Shirou's Origin something else before the fire and Miyuverse Shirou had his Origin overwritten by EMIYA's when EMIYA invaded his body.
Really? Because I was certain that Miyuverse Shirou actually told everyone that not only was his body being invaded, but because of that, he could feel him overwriting his Origin.
@@fangthefabulous1132 He said he "inherited" his Origin. While we can figure that it changed, we only have that to go on. It's just as possible it was the same as when Shirou crossed blades with EMIYA in UBW, which led to him inheriting his skills.
Dai, would you be interested in creating a video based around the Extra Classes? (Foreigner, Shielder, Saver, Gatekeeper, Watcher, Faker, Funnyvamp, Ruler, Avenger, etc.) There is surprisingly no easily accessible high-quality videos on this topic, and I feel you could definitely do it justice. :)
@@OtakuDaiKun There's virtually no information on it at all. It is what Gilgamesh's class was originally going to be in Stay Night. I'd just leave it as a footnote if you made a video like this, along with Gunner and a few others.
I have a theory/question. A mages abilities is largely limited and dictated by there magic circuits which direct magical power for spells. Those born with little magic circuits have a harder time controlling and directing magic for spells which makes them lesser and weak in the eyes of other mages. I don’t think there is any way to give an individual more circuits, at least not safely. But what if instead you cause the magic circuits to expand? If you make them bigger then the fact that there aren’t that many wouldn’t matter right? 10 enlarged magic circuits would in theory be able to control and direct just as much magic power as 100 normal sized magic circuits. Thoughts?
Anyways Shirou's origin and affinity were both sword which was insanely rare. Kiritsugu's origin bullets weren't just used simply by shooting a Magus, they had to have activated their magic-circuits when shot which would allow it's effect to spread all over. Which is why he would trick his victims into using magecraft to defend themselves before shooting them. I also think Sakura's origin was hollow judging by what you said.
So Dai using what we learned how would you imagine the magic of a Mage with the Origin of Metal & the Elemental Affinities of Earth, Fire & Ether would be influenced? For that matter how would his origin likely manifest? Im personally imagining someone capable of using mage craft to blend metals into Alloys or Damascus style ingots that can be shaped & manipulated at will. Maybe even change the state of the metals from solid to molten with mana alone. Thoughts?
You know, I would be very curious to see what if Shirous origin and elemental affinity was bow. Instead sword, it's bow. I mean, he was a genius in archery even with the whole sword thing.
In the fate sn vn it's explained that the way of archery and the teachings of magic are close in nature also unlike Sakura he is in pretty good shape and has insane eyesight. Not sure if that helps explain his skill in archery or not. He does become EMIYA later in life so he could just be a god in that skill lol
Teacher, what would happen if you could force your origin on to others that aren't like Kiritsugu's "Severing and Binding"? Like say what if your origin was something like "Eating" or "Nothingness". Would it force that person to also eat or would they be eaten by your soul?
OtakuDaiKun Isn't Kiritsugu kinda forcing his origin onto others? His origin "Binding and Severing" doesn't do anything until it enter another's body and turns their circuits all topsy turvy, hence the origin bullets. Like you said, his origin doesn't really effect him in grand scheme of things, but with others, it's a different. Am I crazy for thinking that? I'm imagining it like if you had origin bullets and they weren't Kiritsugu's, but something like Leo or Shiki and etc. How would those people hit by your origin bullets, react to it?
@@OtakuDaiKun Ok. Sorry if this a strange, but it's the last one. I'm curious about what else can be done with your own origins and what possibilities you can do to expand on it. You can't directly control it, but Could you find ways around that? Could it be consumable(like if someone fed you a piece of them. I know it's gross, but it's a shot in the dark), can it be absorbed(like if a part/particles of someone was in water or blood and your skin absorbed it), and etc? And for a different origin, what effects could it have on others if you inserted yours in them(like the origin bullets). This is all theoretical talk on my end and I likely haven't fully thought this out, but it's got me thinking alot on possible variety usage.
SegaShooterGames Id stick to the idea that the origin itself cannot transfer or change, they can just result in unique abilities that can affect others.
How about Emiya Shirou's Trace Version of Projection Magecraft and his Reality Marble Unlimited Blade Works:Infinite Creation of Sword as well mentioning trace and projected Divine Constructs excluding Ea which Miyuverse Emiya Shirou did.

I know a lot of people have already answered this question. But I was wondering what the difference is between the original Fate/Stay Night VN and the Realta Nua version.
I have a question that's been bugging me since I rewatched Apocrypha and started writing my own series based on Arthurian Legend. If Mordred was conceived after Artoria became King, how is she there when Artoria pulls Caliburn from the stone?

Side note: I appreciate you doing these because a lot of the times these concepts blow over my head when I watch the actual shows that mention them

No it was both origin and his element
Sora Ad Caelum no it isn’t: typemoon.fandom.com/wiki/Avalon#cite_ref-6
“All it does when Saber isn’t around is make Shirou’s magic attribute “Sword” ~ Fate/Complete Material III
There is no mention whatsoever on it affecting his Origin. Origins shouldn’t change that easily. Sword has always been his origin.
Sora Ad Caelum Is correct.
It is unknown what is original ‘Origin’ was.
@@myspacebarbrokenevermindif9892 dude even the site you got it from said origin *and* element got changed to sword thanks to Avalon

I loved the concept of origins and elements when I first found out and still do considering the unlimited potential in fate they have as well as a Narrative
I love lessons in magecraft wish the others were here too
Shirou's Origin had nothing to do with Avalon.
I have exam for job less than 2 weeks and here I am watching lesson in magecraft. Worth it

i was wondering if anyone else caught this
This series has been amazing so far I definitely would want fire
I don't know why but a Mage having an Origin that is "Contradiction" sounds very cool and interesting
Remember kids: If you know your origin you'll probably know what powers your Stand will take.
So Shirou's stand will be the same type of stand as Silver Chariot, Shiki's will be a One Hit Kill type, and so on? On the flip side, Joseph's origin is prediction, Josuke's is fixing, Giorno's is life, and other Josuke is steal
Thank you for sensei Daikun for a wonderful video of lesson in magecraft can't wait for more coming soon. Also I wish it would be great to have some of the characters in Kara no Kyoukai Azaka, Lio, Souren and what other charaters on there would be great to be added into the Melty Blood game just like Shiki Ryouji was added into the game.
Sensei, i think you should do a video on kotonime kirei, he's a very unique character and I'm pretty sure his origin was "opening wounds" which allowed him to be a spirit surgeon and is considered a witch doctor among magi.
Magecraft is so fascinating and awesome
I beat the notification lol
So if an origin can be nightmarish like ‘consumption’ or specific like ‘sword’ can it be something more abstract, like say, ‘supremacy’ or ‘learner’?
Probably yes.
@@OtakuDaiKun what would origins like “misfortune” , “illusion” and “dragon” be
@@shadowclaw7210 Unless Type Moon has already covered those, I think it's up to interpretation. It is a concept after all. I'd like to think Lancer has the origin misfortune lol. Illusion could be literal, or it could mean not being authentic or seen for who you truly are. Dragon is almost like what Artoria is.
@@OtakuDaiKun ok hey did you ever heard of A certain magical index and it’s spin-offs
@@shadowclaw7210 Of course I have, but I've never watched either one all the way through.
Wait wait wait, if Kiritsugu's origin is activated once it enters an enemy. Doesn't that mean that if they were to make origin rounds from Shirou's ribs, it would have an effect as well, for example:
Create swords from the inside out of an enemy?
gerardo cross That would be cool. Seems plausible.
That's literally Unlimited Lost Works
That's Unlimited Lost Works, it's already exist as Emiya Alter NP
I'm surprised that you didn't bring up that there are rare cases that one could change their Origin and Element under very rare cases.
Because if I remember correctly, wasn't Shirou's Origin something else before the fire and Miyuverse Shirou had his Origin overwritten by EMIYA's when EMIYA invaded his body.
He brought up that it's speculated. He didn't confirm it because it's never directly confirmed.
@@christophermitchell9739 Ah, you're right! I completely forgot that!

Dai, would you be interested in creating a video based around the Extra Classes?
(Foreigner, Shielder, Saver, Gatekeeper, Watcher, Faker, Funnyvamp, Ruler, Avenger, etc.)
There is surprisingly no easily accessible high-quality videos on this topic, and I feel you could definitely do it justice. :)
I feel like I need to read what Gatekeeper comes from...
@@OtakuDaiKun There's virtually no information on it at all. It is what Gilgamesh's class was originally going to be in Stay Night. I'd just leave it as a footnote if you made a video like this, along with Gunner and a few others.
But Saver is called Savior in Extra, was it called Saver originally?
"your a mage daikun" (insert hagrid voice)
Thoughts?
I like the idea but I couldn't confirm if that's even remotely possible in the nasuverse.
OtakuDaiKun The process would most likely be extremely painful
Did I mention consumption? 9:29
Thinking up of a cool origin for a character is hard
well dam no chaos/void/lightning affinity. also every time i hear moral depravity i keep thinking "its a good enough reason for an exterminatus"
Thanks for the lesson.
I need an episode on imaginary numbers in fate.
does Kirei disturbing nature come from his origin too??
Or he is a born psychopath in purely biological way??
No idea, Nasuverse metaphysicals are complicated.
Dk
Another amazing lesson!
Thoughts?
I mean, it seems reasonable, but what I'm more concerned with is if it makes a compelling story.
Yay, another one!
I wonder there origins such as: Plot armor
Honestly it would be cool if I got a dual origin and the element of fire

I'm actually making one right now for my $1/month supporters.
Aah, so in Nasuverse they have fivve elements in magic, cool
Air or water- Leadership
Teacher, what would happen if you could force your origin on to others that aren't like Kiritsugu's "Severing and Binding"? Like say what if your origin was something like "Eating" or "Nothingness". Would it force that person to also eat or would they be eaten by your soul?
SegaShooterGames I don’t think you can force your origin onto anyone else.
SegaShooterGames Okay, but he’s not changing their origin, they’re just being affected by his. That sorta thing can happen, yes.
Is nen deeper than this? cuase it looks like a close match if u ask me
I find it odd that you didn’t brought up an explanation for a person having the same origin and element, like Shirou Emiya.
So Rin is the Avatar!?!
Absolutely
I hate how her completely busted element isn't really brought up in the story, at least she uses elements on her jewels
So an origin can be anything? as long as it's a concept. So if I were to make a character's origin "Weapon", that's alright?
Otaku. Man Loee Yup.

I think Realta Nua is the "clean" version, with additional scenes
OG Fate has the seks, realta nua is the family friendly version
So imaginary element is like an reality marble and labyrinth but different

I have a question that's been bugging me since I rewatched Apocrypha and started writing my own series based on Arthurian Legend. If Mordred was conceived after Artoria became King, how is she there when Artoria pulls Caliburn from the stone?
Khaos Dimensions She wasn’t. That was a vision of Mordred’s, kinda her way of confronting her thoughts of Artoria and what it means to be king.

No idea. I watched them in the order they were released, but you could also watch them in the chronical Order.
I talk about the order in my Kara no Kyoukai lore. I personally prefer the story’s chronological order.
@@OtakuDaiKun KnK is already difficult to wrap your mind around without the stories episodic order playing with events.
