- KTLA 5 Morning News anchor Jessica Holmes talked about the sudden loss of her colleague and dear friend Sam Rubin. Rubin died Friday at age 64. May 10, 2024.
“I love that man,” Holmes said tearfully. “We all did. My heart is beating out of my chest. He was a bright spot in my day, every day.”

I've never commented on a passing of a celebrity or entertaining news men or woman....but have to now grew up watching Sam Ruben always smiling did his job the right way...sad day today RIP Sam...you definitely are loved and will be missed.

Turns out it was a heart attack. We'll have to wait until autopsy result to get the entire story. I don't know anything about his health history. But he didn't seem like the most in shape guy.

IMO-Sam Rubin lights up the room with laughter & his good way antics and in my view everyone at KTLA treat their colleagues as an extension of their own family - it shows from your interaction with one another. RIP Sam!
Condolences to the Rubin and KTLA families. It will be so different without seeing him on Channel 5. His smiles, laughter, voice, and presence, such as at award shows (i.e Oscars) will forever be engrained in the lives of many. He joins the legendary KTLA reporters who brought excellence to news coverage (i.e Hal Fishman, Larry McCormack, Stan Chambers), and have come and gone. He will forever be missed. Thank you, Sam!

I starting watching the KTLA morning news from the beginning. Sam being gone is just heartbreaking. It’s like losing a family member even though I never met him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, his family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear about Sam Rubin. He was a class act all the way. Even though he left us too soon, we should all take comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord. Sam has received his heavenly crown. Sam is back home with the Lord. I can’t believe he gone. Nolonger walking this earth with us. Sam Rubin is in a way better place. He’s in heaven. I was to express my heart felt condolences to all his friends and family. KTLA was Sam Rubin second family. He came into our lives for a season, and a reason. I feel like he was the OG, the reliable smile, full of subject knowledge (but always eager to learn more), kind and witty, endearingly corny at times, but the best in his field, unparalleled yet approachable, a trusted source and constant presence - a friend in the business who kept us in the know.
I guess he's to KTLA what Vin Scully is, was and always will be to the Dodgers. Like Vin, Sam will always be missed....beloved....irreplaceable.
His segments were great and he was always laughing.

I’ve watch KTLA since ‘04 or ‘06 & when I was in elementary school/middle school once in awhile in the mornings. Once I got to high school if I would wake up late I would watch through my first period sometimes & I always loved the Sam Rubin moments the most! And I’m senior year I took journalism & we got to go to the KTLA studios & I was like famgirling when we met Sam he was so nice
I started watching from Hacienda Heights every morning in 1991 and was hooked. I am so sorry and will miss Sam. 64 is too young to go! What a treasure he was for Los Angeles.
