    I was there, and spoke briefly to Jerry afterwards -- the only time I did. It WAS a really good show. Even Donna managed to wail on key, instead of screeching somewhere else on the musical scale. Bobby's "take a step back" rap is well-etched in memory. Actually, this was the last time I saw the Dead live. Fortunately, THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED!

He used to get lots of requests from his students to dup them a copy so he would play it and record it at the same time on another deck he would check out from the university. I miss sitting in our living room listening and watching the lights out our wall sized picture window while this played.

    the vivid connection between the vocal lyric & the instrumental jam is so resonant, yet without boundary. I was born too late, being in my early 20’s right now I wish I could’ve been alive at the perfect time to catch at least a handful of Grateful Dead shows. Nonetheless I’m not without gratitude-I’m blessed to be able to catch the wave as best I can through the tapes. Thank you for sharing this wonderful live mix of one of my favorite tunes of theirs. ⚡️💀

My fav take away though is the beautiful peeps I've shared the shows with from 70s til now - win, lose or draw. "Every show is somebody's favorite"

    I began to listen to the Dead in 1980. I have always been a huge Rock fan, but couldn't find any Dead in my local record places. So I went to the local library. Checked out Dead Set. Lol Fell in love.
    Friend of the Devil, Fire on the Mountain did it for me. And to think I was only 13. At that time I was only smoking a little weed. And in fact, was sober the weekend I investigated the Dead. Proving you don't need drugs to dig the motherfuckjng good ol' Grateful Dead. Best American band. Period!
    My point? Not sure, I digress time to time. Lol .
    No, seriously. I've never been one to listen to countless shows comparing jams. Like is the Terrapin from Texas whenever better than Anaheim '87?
    But after reading all the comments here I may begin to try that?
    Either way still and always gonna love my Grateful Dead. And yes I love Dead and Company and think John Mayer kills it. Only wish after 5 or 6 years together they might give it a go and try a new release (wouldn't that be sweet 😊) or at least expand their repertoire live some more?
    Keep on truckin' folks. God bless...

    My first 3 shows Winterland March 1977 was the Deads Debut of Fire. Jerry butchered the words. or so i thought. Had no clue then of course, years later when listened to show. Just was reading an article, talking about the song, and how Hart played it since 1974, anyways it says they changed to verses around until they finally decided what order and such. Love his tone on this song.

    I don't know that much about guitar. I don't play, but I've heard all the so-called guitar gods... Hendrix, Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, Prince... I don't know about who is technically better but my ears tell me that none of them plays anywhere near as melodically as Jerry does, and for me that's the key. His playing might/might not be that hard to do, but god damn it is beautiful. If there are other guitarists who play like that please share. I wanna check them out.

      Are you crazy? Do you think anyone would come even close to Jerry? He is a league with only himself in it. Jerry was as godly as a human being could be. He may not be the most technically correct but most pleasing to my ear for one.

    • @AdamMcGahan
      @AdamMcGahan Год назад +1

      I don't know that you'll find anyone who solos "like [this]" - the5/8/77 "Scarlet/Fire" is pretty amazing even for Jerry - but you can find guitar players who care more about melody than about speed.
      I've always found early Allman Brothers satisfying. If you haven't heard it, the song _Blue Sky_ has two nice solos back to back (one is Dickey Betts, the other is Duane Allman) in the middle:
      ruclips.net/video/UToUzWgHGyQ/видео.html
      And while it's a different style than GD, Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is an underrated guitarist:
      ruclips.net/video/O78v_GhEtgk/видео.html
      Both of those are worth the ~10 minute investment of your time to see if they take you anywhere. Good luck!

      Adams reference to early ABB is on the mark with Duane & Dickey playing off each other perfectly, and you have to give Bobby his due here. I`d also say Early Santana When Neil Schon and carlos were playing off each other and it was a wonderful melodic jam and the 1st incarnation Peter Green`s Fleetwood Mac. Not Fleetwood Mac After he left the name changed. almost a totally different sound and the guy was one of the best guitarists ever but he also had a guy named Jeremy Spencer to play off of. I love 3 piece music and sometimes People like jimi or eric and stevie can pull it at the genius level but anyway if you don`t know who peter green was? Here`s a tune that I think is one of the best rockNroll songs EVER. Two bad about him Fucking guitar genius True genius. IMHO anyway www.google.com/search?q=oh+well+peter+green&rlz=1CAKDUD_enUS1026&sxsrf=ALiCzsZioMT7rtBhF95R5tnUbRl_0L8vQA%3A1670377196852&ei=7O6PY7zQM7HCytMP152K2Ac&gs_ssp=eJzj4tFP1zcsNM1Ks0xOMTFg9BLOz1AoT83JUShILUktUkgvSk3NAwC_Qwth&oq=oh+well+pe&gs_lcp=Cgxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAQARgAMgUILhCRAjIFCAAQgAQyBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMggIABAWEB4QDzIICAAQFhAeEA8yBggAEBYQHjoECAAQRzoFCAAQhgM6BwgjEOoCECc6BwguEOoCECc6BAguECc6BAgjECc6CwgAEIAEELEDEIMBOgUILhCABDoLCC4QgwEQsQMQgAQ6BQgAEJECOgQIABBDOgcILhDUAhBDOgQILhBDOggILhCxAxCABDoOCC4QgAQQsQMQgwEQ1AI6CAguEIAEENQCOggILhCABBCxAzoKCAAQgAQQhwIQFDoECAAQAzoKCC4QhwIQgAQQFDoICC4Q1AIQgAQ6CggAEBYQHhAPEApKBAhBGABKBAhGGABQynRYzPwBYLCTAmgEcAN4AoABsgGIAagekgEENS4yN5gBAKABAbABCsgBCMABAQ&sclient=gws-wiz-serp#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:68bb0ba4,vid:MrP4jCPlBVw

    • @robertbogden9556
      @robertbogden9556 Год назад

      This is a lossless upload to RUclips and should be roughly in the same ballpark as the CD. I would say the difference is in the audio equipment you are using. Modern Headphones are amazing, perhaps better than the CD, DA conveter, preamp, amp and speakers you are using to listen to the CD. God forbid it is an automobile CD - unless it is a Mark Levinson, automobiles have lots of issues with spark plug noise, road noise, poor speaker placement etc.
