There is a world before the Pathetique and one after it, and it is a fitting coincidence that the sonata was published right at the turning of the #century (December 1799). The introduction to the first movement contains the core elements from which all three movements of the sonata then unfold. And, couldn't it be that #RichardWagner (1813-1883) got the inspiration to his famous #Tristan and #Isolde theme from this very introduction?
