      The poverty experienced going through flight training sears into the lizard brain that continental breakfast and FBO snacks are required for survival 😂
      I know once the pilot checks start coming in the free food will always be a priority in my mind.

    This has to be one of the most fun episodes ever. The destination, your cheeky undercover game... and you took the news about no included breakfast like a MAN. Shame you didn't get a bit longer of a layover, but still what a hoot. Great job by your editor by the way.       Same here, I expected all the airline companies to be incredibly strict on this stuff, so as long as he remains safe and focused on what needs to be done while in the cockpit I've been loving the footage

      You have a point there. Several pilots on twitter have stopped filming because their airlines gave them strict orders not to film anymore while on the job.

    As a truck driver in Oregon and Washington, I always brag that my cubicle has some great views. They are nothing compared to yours! Enjoyed the episode.

      As a non-American who has only ever visited Orlando, what do you love about it? I live in Spain and I argue that the trip from Málaga out towards Nerja (although obviously *much* less driving than is possible in the USA lol) along that coast is unbeatable! Mountains on one side and the sea on the other, and finish around El Cabo de Gata in Almería. Maybe one day I'll do yours and you do mine and we can compare notes ;) haha@@mattscarf

      From a legal stand point, I doubt there's any difference between coach and business as far as "rest" goes (especially business narrow-body as that's often not lay-flat anyway. And laws for pilot rest are extremely strict!

      @@captainLoknar I'm not arguing that at all. I certainly enjoy my lay flat seats, as long as the company is paying! I'm just saying that it may not qualify as the right type of rest from a legal pilot standpoint. My last two economy trips I managed to finagle three seats, but even then, there's no real way for someone over 6 ft to really get comfortable, especially as the window armrest doesn't go up.

      @@74gear Maybe consider having a separate channel from 74 Gear, dedicated to specific destinations and personal experiences whilst there. Petter has successfully done it with his Mentor Pilot and Mentor Now Channels. '74Gear Destinations' would be a great name for it. Look forward to seeing a Vlog from Bangkok! 😊

    Best part about arrival in HNL or Hawaii, is... the air. Warm but soft from humidity, fragrance of the flowers (and, well, some kerosene fumes if still near the open-air jetway, from the planes)...
    instant relaxation. ahhhh

      Some times, it's not even their fault and they are delayed like everyone else. I've heard stories of pilots being the cause, but all in all, they're a pretty diligent bunch.

      @@aserta why would a pilot intentionally delay a departure other than for a good reason? Pilots aren’t getting paid unless the airplane is moving.

      @@aserta The only reason a pilot delays a flight is because it affects the safety of the flight and that comes from the Flight Dispatcher in the OCC (Operation Control Center) who is also responsible for the flight.

    I lived in Oahu Hawaii for 7 years, and we used to Jet Ski right next to the taxiway that you filmed arriving in Honolulu. It was so cool to ride next to the planes taxiing out to the reef runway. We would wave at all the people leaving and many times saw the pilots waving back! Cool episode Kelsey 🙂

    What a great video. You’ve got a great eye for what to shoot for a really cool edit at the end. A great balance between impromptu casual vlogging style (without being all Blair Witch 🫨) and discerning and structured sequences, shots and timing that kick up the production and immerse us in the context more like a high budget travel documentary.

    Tried your channel because my Dad was a 47 engineer in the’60’s and 70’s-he designed the light for the emergency chute and more. Subscribed because I enjoy your vibe, content and seeing the 47 from a different perspective.

      @@someguyontheinternet7165 That's what I'm doing. I was training to be a pilot in my 20's. PPL MEA CIR. My relationship went south and I was almost bankrupted. Fast forward 23 years and I got made redundant from my job with a good severance package. I've put it all on red to finish my CPL and get my CIR back. Can't remember the last time I was this happy with life.

    My goodness these vlogs are quality. Really very good stuff indeed.
    Also I love (I assume) your editor both for their edits but also their choice of music. It's never that stupid electronic repetitive stuff, but actually something that adds to the imagery and is fun to listen to for the couple of seconds it's there. Awesome stuff! Still baffled by how ridiculously good these vlogs are for an 'unexperienced' vlogger.

    Just wanted to extend a big thank you for sharing your life with us this way! Many of us AVgeeks grew up dreaming of being a career pilot but never had a chance due to (in my case) medical or other reasons. Your videos let viewers get a vicarious taste of this dream we cant let go!

    I can’t believe they don’t let off duty pilots in AA lounges. I’m always chatting with pilots flying up to Anchorage or sitting in lounge. Hopefully one of these days I’ll see you and thank you in person.

      I can understand to a point, but I once saw a Dallas AA agent tell a FedEx pilot (who was not in a uniform) to remove his FedEx logo pullover before she would allow him in the club. I don’t see them demanding any other employee from any other company (Microsoft, Ford, Deloitte, or any other company) remove a logo shirt or coat.

    Fun as always and you are a good spokesman for airlines in general for pilot jobs since there is a shortage. Glad you have been able to show the good and bad side of pilot jobs and it gives people and idea of what it's like before they jump right into it and then like, this isn't what i thought it would be like. I love being a pilot and wish would have started earlier in life!

    I am happy to say I recognized your mechanics in HNL from my back to back to back to back... 9 turns from MEM - HNL back in November.... hauling Fed-Ex cargo in 476 for peak.... good crew there in HNL!

    Amazing production values! It's nice to get to see/hear some of the incidental activities like comms to the flight attendants etc. I'm sure many of us are familiar with them, but it's nice to see them included. Congrats on getting paid to visit Guam!

      You showed the chart for
      RWY 31.....you muppet.
      I don't know a single B747-400 Captain who would accept that clearance.
      That's probably why you are still a co-pilot. ..

    I was lucky enough to live in Hawaii for 13 years while my parents were in the Navy. I love that airport. I remember seeing 747's, DC-10's, MD-11's, L1011's. I even flew Aloha's old 737-200's. For a few years we lived under the approach to 8L so I'd stand outside while watching the big planes land and the big ships pull in. Some of the fondest memories of when I was little.

    One of the best pilot vlogs/videos I've ever seen. Been to Guam....flew EVA TPE-GUM and stayed for a week at the Hyatt. Indeed the water is that clear blue!

    Kelsey, I have been watching your vids for the past few months. I got interested in this whole topic of flying while playing my Xplane sim. and I have been recently trying to learn a little about flight planning and terminology. I know one thing.... the 747 is one hell of a machine, and I have mad respect for you guys!!! Thanks for all you do!!
