Love this melody after k-drama Gwanghae. And love this traditional instrument also. It's sounds same with a little bit with my traditional instrument Kyjak or Kyl kyjak. It's Kyrgyz national instrument. 💜💜💜 BTW who is here after Suga's 'Haegeum'?
What is the skin/covering on the body of the haegeum made of? I feel like the resonance might be why the sound between erhu and haegeum is quite different. I know that Chinese erhu is python skin, and I've heard shamisen used to use cat/dog skin but has moved on to other materials, so what are traditional/modern materials for haegeum?
"while the haegeum retained much of the original appearance, the erhu underwent much modification in recent decades. Bamboo is the main material for the body of the haegeum and different notes are played by pulling at the two silk strings. Meanwhile, the erhu’s body and neck are made of wood and its strings metal. Erhu is played like a fiddle by running a bow across the strings and by pressing the fingers down on the them to play notes. This is why the haegeum makes a high and sharp sound whereas the erhu makes a rather a low and mellow sound." (source: KBS world)
