Serious explorers, people who live and work in dangerous places etc generally have this attitude towards silly pricks who decide to do it for a laugh, because it's not just them who might die, it's the production crew who are forced to film them, keep their car going, pick up after them, put up their tents once they're done pretending they're doing it themselves for the camera etc. People deciding to go on jaunts to the top of Everest or to the Pole for a laugh usually get people killed and it isn't always themselves, it's the people with actual experience that have to drag their useless arses along or rescue them when they get themselves stuck

    • @justforever96

But he actually means it, literally. He doesn't just mean "you guys are dumbasses", he means "you are totally untrained in Arctic travel, the methods of preserving your life is those hostile situations". Literally, they are ignorant on the subject. I don't think he even meant to be rude and negative about it, it was just a statement of the situation. And I am sure it had some relation so something that was already said, like he asked them "what do you know about arctic travel?" and they said "absolutely nothing", and he said "so you are essentially ignorant of the dangers you will be facing?" I don't hink it was just meant to be a funny joke for TV, although the editors knew people would take it that way.

Weird, I thought sled dogs were usually not accustomed to much affection and warmth, and they tend to be pretty dangerous. They aren't actually abused but they are treated more like pack animals and beasts of burden than pets. They don't get petted or cuddled, their reward is their food, their duty is obedience. I remember being kind of shocked when I read accounts of how the dogs are treated. It seemed a bit on the callous side, but not enough to actually be cruel. And they are half wild aside from the training for the sled.

I wish they'd kept in Hammond explaining how the dogs kept warm up there and that they actually get too hot because of how effective their fur is. I know he mentions that the dogs prefer the cooler temperatures at night. I also wish they'd kept in either May's map bit with the fuel drop mention or them driving around looking for the fuel drop, because while I should have realized they wouldn't have had enough to make it from Resolute to the Pole without filling up, it also didn't really occur to me that they would have needed a fuel drop for it. Idk why everyone is saying these aren't deleted, they are. Here in the UK anyway, these were not shown. iPlayer has all the episodes currently on there (a blessing) but these scenes are NOT there. Everyone saying otherwise probably watched this outside the UK, a different cut.

If Clarkson chinned his producer for not having a hot meal ready for him at 9pm in a 5 star hotel - it makes you wonder how much they had to pamper him on this trip. Were specific members of the crew designated to rub the tips of his toes every 10 miles ?

Really?...The man is a fucking legend, an Artic explorer, holder of several endurance records, climbed mount Everest when he was 65 years old, the first man to cross Antarctica, alone, on foot, dragging all of his own supplies, sailed and dragged (with a couple of mates) an 18ft open Boston whaler in a trans globe circumnavigation from pole to pole, He has led expeditions along the White Nile in Africa, he ran 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days, for charity when he was 60, only.4 months after a double heart bypass operation... and oh yeah....... served with the SAS in Oman in the 1960s, where he saw extensive active service during the Dhofar Rebellion.

chrish12345 while he was exploring the North pole his sleigh fell through the ice. He retrieved it from the frigid water. Even though his hand was in the water for a couple of minutes, it got Frostbitten. Doctor told him to wait for a month to operate it. But as it was painful, he couldn't wait and went into his shed with a scalpel and cut off the fingers himself. he wants to say to these 3 is that the North pole is a very brutal place. Even the best of the best get hurt.
