Yes, she’s a spoiled cunt, Criston, so what?
Rhaenyra Targaryen is literally the story of an overly spoiled girl, a little tomboy who had no interest in marriage or children, and who ends up finding her way in what the duty of her statue and of her time imposed on her, and by starting a war in passing because, oopsie.
Rhaenyra is a girl who often lets herself be dictated by her emotions (or as her father would say, her desires lol), who sometimes acts very naively, even stupidly, but not necessarily with bad intentions. Rhaenyra is the story of a queen who was probably not destined to become one, who had that morality quite ahead of her time, and a talent for badass dragon entries that we can't take from her. Rhaenyra is the story of a spoiled girl who loses a lot (her mother, her brother, her best friend, even if she participated in this loss, her children, then her husband), only to lose everything in the end.
Rhaenyra is not the story of a good or a great queen. It's the story of a queen who tried to follow in her father's footsteps, but failed because, well, Viserys, she has the blood of the dragon, right? She's restless and chaotic, and in many ways she'll be her own downfall. But it's also the story of a woman who tried. Tried to impose, tried to rule, tried to live by her desires, tried to conquer her freedom, try, try. It's the flawed story of a woman I've adored ever since I discovered her character in the books, long before the show, and the show has adapted her incredibly well to my liking, in all her imperfection, and Milly and Emma both did an amazing job with her character.
I really care about this video, which is therefore mainly centered on Rhaenyra. I really enjoyed playing with the lyrics "I am no mother, I am no bride, I am King" by first showing Rhaenyra who rejects marriage and motherhood, before completely accepting it and remaining the "King " in both cases. I really wanted to focus the heart of the video on this idea, this idea that she rejected so powerfully these two possibilities of a future in her youth, before finally succeeding in finding happiness in being a mother and being a wife, and in doing so, keeping her position as "king".
0:11 - 0:15 : “We argue in the kitchen about whether to have children, about the world ending” with Daemon trying to soothe Rhaenyra’s fears about being a mother one day and end liker her mother, which is fun that he’s the one doing that, since we know that he will be the father of three of her children, and him saying that the world is a tragic world for the “world ending” bit. The first part of the song just try to show a little bit how Daemon’s words and act influenced Rhaenyra’s life, in bad or good, and just try to follow the lyrics in the same time.
“I need my empty walls to echoes with great self-mythology” because Rhaenyra is quite arrogant in many ways and want the things to be focused on her, which is normal, she grew up as a only child and as a princess.
“What strange claws are these, scratching at my skin, I never knew my killer would be coming from within” I didn’t show there Rhaenyra’s pain mixed with screams of Syrax, with Alicent trying to stab her or Rhaenyra watching the knife without a purpose. SPOILERS ; I fathom there Rhaenyra’s death, killed by a dragon of the Greens, but also, in many ways, because of her own choices, because of this war, so her true killer comes from “within”, from her own blood.
2:26 : “how romantic it must be to be imprisoned in a castle and make to squeeze out heirs” basically what you did at Dragonstone, baby girl lol.
The entire instrumental part is there to show many nuances of Rhaenyra’s personalities. Her doubts about being a girl with her father choosing her to be his heir, her bond and resemblance to Daemon and Viserys who complain about it (Daemon half raised her, you sweet idiot, what do you expected), her trying to keep the peace but still insulting Otto, her who said that this place is “comfortable” with the images of her being “crowned” as heir, which means for me that she always wanted actually the crown, to be worthy of her father’s love.

Then her struggling with what she wanted (her crown, Daemon), Daemon who complain because Rhaenyra looks to much liker her dad (Viserys half raised her, you sweet idiot, what do you expected), then her trying to make that promise to her son, but failing, and this will put her “back on the show” meaning that it will put her back in the “game of thrones” when she tried at first to resist it and not start war.

This is a masterpiece, one of the best edits of a character I've ever seen. I've always loved Rhaenyra, but I hate the way the fandom believes her to be some kind of saint or feminist icon. She's not! She's priviledged, and spoiled, and entitled, and that what makes her such an interesting and complex character! I love her because of her flaws, it what makes her real and human! So thank you so much for this edit and your thoughts about her, I couldn't agree more.

This might actually be the best edit of a fictional character I have ever seen in my entire life. The way you matched the lyrics to the scenes was nothing sort of masterful and the coloring as well as the effects were so, so undeniably pretty. This whole video sums up Rhaenyra's character pretty damn well, you should be really proud of yourself!

En fait, je pense que Rhaenyra est le parfait équilibre entre Viserys (qui pouvait être des fois trop passif) et Daemon (qui peut être parfois trop tempétueux) et c'est assez logique, puisqu'elle à grandi entre leurs deux influences.
