Just getting back into karate after a long (6 year) lay off. I found this video very useful to remind myself of what needs to be done. Playing it over and over again just to get it right.
Thank you to all involved in this it truly helps. AND it’s a free tutorial!!!!

You very welcome and you also understood that these are meant to be purely as an aid to learning. Many people wish to dissect and analyse it when it is only meant as an aid, good luck with your return to karate.

I have recieved some negative comments about the videos....that is fine we live in a free world (just about) but? and it is a but it seems none of them read the description......The kihons were performed in a deliberate easy and basic fashion. (IT SAY'S SO UNDER THE VIDEO)
This is to help people learn not indoctrinate them into someones interpretation......
Before we post names can I cordialy invite those that made the comments to post their own versions....I am sure they will be much better than ours but at leat we can see how that apparantly 'SHOULD' be done....
    Regards

I agree there are several issues with these such as no where in Wado do we teach to bow with your feet apart and in the traditional explanation of these the feet do not move from the original stance prior to the first move. The purpose of these is to learn Tasubaki but only those who really study Wado will understand that. I appreciate the attempt to show these in a video.

Low intensity is more than fine. Especially when you are in practice mode, I'd even recommend it. Even so, I would like to give a few pointers, you may treat these in whatever way suits you.
Ma-ai: The ideal harmonious distance is the full body length of the tallest person between you two. If you can make a mae geri/kin geri on the other person, you are too close. Try to attack from the point where it's almost not safe anymore. Use your body to 'leap' forward.
Ki musubi: I see a proper display of Zanshin (awareness), but I miss the connection of your energy. You are looking very carefully at each other (well done) but your bodies are turned away at the end of every kumite. If you can, connect the mind ánd the body.
Attacking: Mostly the second attack (gyakuzuki) is not on target. Your first punch reaches further than your second, even though your opponent evaded/moved. That can't be right. Without a proper attack, there cannot be a proper defense.
Sokuto geri: I always learned you have to retract your leg after a kick, back to the knee (hiki ashi). Because you know, when you want to kick your dear friend again :) Other than that, it looks a bit more pleasing.
I see quite some more things but I think these are universal points that you can work on, even when you are not practicing Kihon Kumite. I highly recommend watching Õtsuka Sensei's video's (yes, all 3 Õtsuka Sensei) and if you can, visit the shikukai dojo, or one of their seminars. It helps me a lot in my training. If you disagree with me, that is fine. I hope to have helped you.
    Have a nice day!

Wado is a unique style with its use of tai sabaki and jiujitsu like characteristics.

One small tip: try not to telegraph the tsuki with subtle backward movement of fist and/or forearm. if you move your body from tanden first that shouldn't happen.

    • @foxesruler

low intensity is fine, but it's not the same as dropping all kiays and doing it without kime. also no need to bow after each kihon gumite, just do it before the first and after the last one. other than that, nice video and nice dojo ;)

In Wado its Jodan Soto Ude Uke
just to make life difficult soto and uchi swap around between wado & Shotokan so the block is going out and to the outside of the punching arm. Remember with wado its the moving out of the way that tends to make it different ... This set of videos are just to show in the basic form.

Dear Foxesruler I note you have commented quite a few times.
I doubt if I can ever give you the answer you seek. We practice these techniques, we do not ask anyone else to practice them. We are happy doing them you clearly don't see merit in them. We still at the moment live with freedom of choice.
If they are not for you that is fine if not simply ignore them. Hope that answers your question

    • @barryarcher6158
      @barryarcher6158  4 года назад

@@foxesruler There are many techniques that could be considered 'Better' they have a purpose in training....unless you are following a style like wado it may be harder to appreciate them. I certainly don't think they are the best thing you can ever do. They are a link to Wado's Jujitsu heritage.
I also am not of the belief that Wado is the BEST style everything has something to bring to the table.
Even bad things show you what not to do. As to why we do them its a bit like why you like one style of music over the other. Probably an unanswerable question i'm afraid.
May I ask you a question? this is not the first time you have asked about these Kumite. What is it about them that bothers or concerns you ?
We are not foolish enough to believe that these are going to be carried out exactly as shown in a real fight situation. But they seem to perturb you in some way.
If we like practicing them and we are not fooling ourselves where does the problem you seem to have with them occur.
I'm always open to debate. But when one meets negativity its almost as if your suggesting I should remove them for being (in your eyes) useless.
      keep well

@@foxesruler when performed to a high level, the kihon gumite in Wado-Ryu karate requires supreme body precision and muscle control. Even for early Dan grades, there is still much to perfect with the 10 kihons. You wouldn’t be able to go into a street fight and whip out one of these kihons and expect it to work, however, the muscle memory and techniques learned will help to adapt them to real-life self-defence situations. Don’t be so quick to judge them.

It doesn't matter how well you perform these techniques - they are all worthless in a fight (any fight). They were created to fool people into believing that this is the real martial way.
