I was tempted to get a 7800X3D But since 9000 is on the horizon It seemed like good idea to get the cheapest AM5 CPU then eventually upgrade to 9000 once it's out. $120 is throw away money but I'm going to definitely sell 7500f eventually, get like $60/70 for it.

One of the major advantages of intel is quicksync (including 10 bit 4.2.2 hardware acceleration that Nvidia or AMD don't support which lots of cameras shoot in). 12400F loses that productivity benefit due to the lack of IGPU so no point in choosing it over a Ryzen 7000 series.

    I would like to see the 7500F compared to the 12600k which is about £20 more for the CPU but you can get motherboards generally cheaper and even have the option of DDR4 boards if you have DDR4 already that's a big saver, obviously going DDR5 is better long term but if you're really stretching the budget I think looking at the 12600k with it's extra efficiency cores and higher out of the box clocks compared to the 12400F could be beneficial for productivity tasks. I just think that would also make for an interesting follow up video, I'd rather spend £20 more for a decent bump in performance. Great work as always Brian Love the channel.

    Yeah I have a 12400F, I decided to skimp on the CPU and upgrade later, but then about 1 month ago they dicontinued 13th gen. 14th gen is not usable by me (DDR4).
    I was worried it would be slower than my old i9 9900K, but they're quite similar in performance, the i9 has the edge though.
    So at the moment it's perfectly acceptable, but my hopes of getting a 13900K or 13700K are rapidly diminishing, especially as rumours swirl about high end 13th gen chips being over powered by motherboard settings, and actually damaging the silicon in those chips. In here 12400f and 5600 is still preferred choice since b650 boards are pretty expensive, and you also need ddr5 which also gonna add to total cost more, if 7500f boards and ddr5 ram are cheap in your area, definitely go for that, it's 7600 performance tier at much cheaper price.

    I think the 12400f still has its place on the lower lower end, for example the 7500f in my country is about 175usd and the 12400f is about 130usd. This price delta is the cost of a really cheap h610m or b660 motherboard then add some cheap ram and you got yourself a decent platform.

  • @shosiu
    @shosiu 28 дней назад +4

    Something is wrong with Cinebench results - I checked few i5 12400f and all of them gave about 12200-12300 points in multicore and about 1700 in single core. Multicore score can be explained by intel limit to 65 Watts, but single core I cannot explain.
    Regarding power consumption - it depends on CPU revision: H0 is more power hungry and takes almost 80W and cannot be undervolted. However C0 is better and can be undervolted. My undervolted 12400f consumes only 58W (package power) and the whole system (Asus B660-I, RTX 4070) during cinebench takes only 87-88 Watts (measured at the wall), in idle it's 30 Watts, so it's extremely efficient. And it's all having still 12300 points in CB R23.

DO NOT USE AMD SOFTWARE , use all in bios. Really 7500f a really good processor with a good and cheap b650 motherboard with good vrm.And also all ddr5 5600 can also easyly oc to 6000 or 6200 with good timing. For me single core cpu in cnbench r23 around 1900 and 15200 in cinebench multiproc. Rock stable in occt power under 80° same for cpu occt and ram for one hour rock stable under an 140mm fan with temp for the ram under38°c. This 7500f is a must for a budget gaming pc.
