    If you wonder why ppl say that certain helmets are louder despite measuring lower dB, you should check the phon unit (unit for loudness). At the same dB level different frequencies will be perceived differently by our brain.

    Excuse me for the question but, loving your channel, I was wondering : don't you envision a change in your procedure since it depends exclusively on your particular setting which is not universal at all : driver, bike with it's fairing... Why not begin a new series on a naked bike ? Wouldn't it be truer to the helmets essential qualities which is related to it's conception ? Best regards.

    Great tests, but did you ever consider doing the tests on a naked bike? From my experience the wind shield changes everything, e.g. a GT Air2 is very quiet behind a windshield, but quite loud on a naked bike.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Год назад +1

      Thank you for your comment. We actually got this comment before. In all honesty it doesn't hold a lot of validity. Sure your naked would give more wind, but this (dis)advantage would still be the same for all helmets. You're absolutely right if you'd say it wouldn't make sense to test one helmet on this bike and the other on another bike. But all helmets are tested under similar conditions on the same bike with the same screen. So the (dis)advantage of a windscreen wouldn't/shouldn't play a role in any of these helmets as they are all experiencing the same conditions. Hope this makes sense to you as well.

    • @ChrisAkAxTr3Me
      @ChrisAkAxTr3Me Год назад +3

      @@Championhelmets Well, to be honest from my experience this is not correct, E.g. the HJC RPHA11 is loud behind a windshield and relativ quiet on a nakedbike- So from my experience it is not possible to carry over the results from one bike with a windshield to another bike with or without a windshield. But the result on different nakedbikes would be the same, as long there is no other influence.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Год назад

      @@ChrisAkAxTr3Me well we can't really say much about your anecdotal proof based on your personal experience. All we can say is that all helmets are subjected to the exact same bike, same shield, same conditions. If you believe that one helmet is getting an advantage out of this, all we can really say is we disagree based on factual data. We hope you could still learn anything from the video.

    • @ChrisAkAxTr3Me
      @ChrisAkAxTr3Me Год назад +4

      @@Championhelmets Of course the conditions are the same for each helmet and it is right to do so. I dont suggest to test one helmet on a naked bike and the other on the BMW GS and then compare the results. But you can compare the result of a GT-Air2 on a naked bike and on the BMW GS. Just try it, you will see the difference. But whatever, it doesnt not seem that you are interested in this comparison so never mind, it was just a suggestion 🙂

    i cant believe ( literally ) that any adventure helmet should be quieter than say the C5, they have way more openings and agressive wind blocking additions on the outer shell wich also produce a lot of volume E2, LS2. I feel there is something wrong with those results since its not logical theoretically that those helmets are quieter. Atleast i cant imagine how they should be. Anyways they are way out of my price range for a helmet (400) to test it myself. Maybe a test with a powerful Ventilator and a test head with built in microphone would be a better way to make some objective results wich cant be wrong due to windshields, daily conditions, microphone placement of the rider, angle of the head ect. You dont need a wind channel, just a room with a powerful 250-300mm Fan blowing air at the helmet through a tube so the ventilator noise is not interfering with measurements. A test setup like that would be like 500€ and way more objective, calculate or measure windspeed, tweak it and lets go. Would expect something like that from "THE helmet channel"

    Appreciate the effort this channel puts into applying some actual science into such a subjective topic.
    However, the variable is the bike. Notice the wind deflectors on the test bike. Purpose is to limit the wind coming up under the helmet. Those deflectors aren’t available for my bike and that’s where my biggest issue is with wind noise.
    Ever helmet should come with a chin curtain, imho.
    Or, it’s 2023, should be able to incorporate noise canceling technology into helmets. May be a high end option but I’d take it.

      @@jamesm5192 Hoihoi! So, this is the story:
      I've used the Qudelix 5k Bluetooth thingy with Meze Solo and Ikko OH-10 Obsidian...
      Meze Solo had better physical sealing, but prefer the OH-10 for sound quality...
      Then Changed to the FiiO UTWS3 and later 5 Bluetooth adapters - you can stick your IEMs on them making them true wireless...
      The buttons are on the sides of these, and sometimes they get pushed by the helmet turning them off, making them louder etc..., but a lot less times as the helmet is flip-up, so you can put the helmet over them and not pull it through with regular full faced helmets.
      I am wearing glasses, and my glasses basically prohibits me to use the UTWS5 adapters because they are getting squeezed into my skull by this helmet with the help of my glasses...
      So... Back to the wire... I bought the great FiiO BTR7 and bought the DUNU SA6 MK2 awesome warm and bassy IEM, which comes with a brilliant silicon tip that makes a fucking awesome seal!!!
      I can listen to music at low volume so I won't screw up my hearing meanwhile all the details are still there and not getting lost thanks to the noise in the helmet.
      I love the combo of the BTR7 and the SA6 MK2 for the bike, and I listen to the SA6 MK2 with the UTWS5 at work.
      The BTR7 would need a power bank attached to it for longer rides though! 3+ hours...
      The UTWS5 could last 5+ hours... Even more, because when you stop for refueling or for a toilet break, you just shove them back in the case that would charge them while you're doing stuff off the bike.
      You can find some good deals for the DUNU SA6 MK2 on head-fi. I think there are 2 for sale at the moment.
      I got my FiiO things from Wifimedia.
      Oh, I ride an FJR1300 with windscreen extension, so that too helps to keep the helmet quiet. I need it as I am 193cm.
      You can find reviews of the BTR7, UTWS5 & DUNU SA6 MK2 on the channels Z Reviews and In-Ear Fetish.
      We have similar taste and I don't regret buying anything based on his reviews. I bought about 10 items by now...

    I just bought the HJC RPHA 91, it’s noisy as all hell! Very disappointed, I much prefer my Schuberth C5 and my Forcite MK1S

    Jesus, they can't get these more quiet? Why can't we have something that's at least in a not damage your hearing range.

      I'm sorry but we hope you don't mind that we think our professional sound measurement equipment is more reliable than your hearing. Thank you for your friendly comment though

      @@Championhelmets I highly recommend conducting another test utilizing professional sound measurement equipment positioned precisely at the ear level. This additional evaluation will enable you to fully comprehend the extent of the noise produced by the Scorpion Exo R1 Carbon Air helmet. It is evident that this helmet stands out as one of the loudest options available.
