A fascinating early Messiaen piece. Already he is using mode 2 for coloration. The underlying harmony is conventionally tonal for most of the piece, though. Except, that is, for the Animé sections, which are not as good as the rest --- when portraying suffering or evil, Messiaen never did find a way to write convincing music. I wonder if he intended the violin part for his first wife, Claire Delbos.
Marvellous
A fantastic early piece by Messiaen. However he hasn't found his style yet. Can hear the echoes of Debussy and of course Wagner's "Tristan".
