Regenerative medicine using stem cells offers tremendous potential for treating a range of medical conditions. In the past two decades, researchers have made significant progress, and initial cell-based therapies are now emerging to treat cardiac diseases. However, some less reputable clinics are marketing stem cell treatments with claims that far exceed known benefits.
At this event, moderated by Maya Pomroy of The Public Lead, includes physician-scientists Dr. Deepak Srivastava and Dr. Emerson Perin, who will review advances in stem cell research for cardiac care over the last 20 years. Fellow Kirstin R.W. Matthews will also highlight the central policy and ethical concerns that have emerged during this period.
This event is part of an annual policy lecture series co-sponsored by the Baker Institute Center for Health and Biosciences and The Texas Heart Institute. Support for the program has been provided by a grant from the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation.
