  • The second generation of the BMW 7 Series (E32) is released in 1987. The idea was to create an elegant and dynamic vehicle for the business class. Hans Kerschbaum was involved in the development, first as a designer, later as head of aerodynamics. Many of his ideas are adopted, including the distinctive wide C-pillar or the rear side window with a raised edge for easy access into the interior. For the first time in BMW history, the typical L-shaped rear lights appeared at the BMW 7 Series.

This car was a masterpiece in engineering, technology and luxury. It was the first german post war V12, it was the first car with traction control (ASC) in 1986, and also sported the first Xenon headlamps in 1990. BMW 750IL Highline models also featured four zone climate control and a fridge in-between the rear seats. These are among many other innovations introduced as world firsts on the E32 which are now standard on most standard and luxury cars.

back in 1987 my father bought a 750i 12cylinder givin up his xj 5.3 v12.
in the course of doing so bmw invited us to see the 750il higline as
well, but my father turned it down being a performance driver all the
gadgets seemed ridiculous already back then, like soft close automatic
for the boot lid. between nuremberg and munich we actually could attain
top speed of 250km per hour which complies to the take off speed of a
jet aircraft and back in the late 80s was tremendously fast. In doings
so bmw provided a warning beacon for the car. In winter the BMW was a
    problem.
One needed snow chains for it was a problem to get winter tyres for this
car due to its weight and high top speed. So at the beginnig there were
no mud and snow tires available for this modell and if only the
slightest snowfall occured we had to abandon the car before minor
inclinations and walk back home because it had no grip on snow at all.

It's my dream car. One of the three I have, all made by the same manufacturer.
I have three cars that I decided I have to own and use at one point in my life.
    The E36, the E32, and the E38.
I already had two E36s, now I have the third, an original 328i convertible in Boston Grün Metallic paint and turquise fabric/leather interior, all the options ticked, hardtop, a perfectly fitting original set of BBS RS II rims. It's so beautiful and I have so much time and money put into it that even though I could exchange it for a nice E32 or E38, I just can't sell it.
So, here I am, trying to get one of these or the E38 to maintain next to my E36 28i. It's a costly hobby for sure, but these are the finest automobiles from the automotive industry's peak: the 80s and the 90s, when cars were very good without having to meet tons of different regulations and safety measures as they do today.

@@BMW that’s certainly a hard question! There’s many things all together that make me love the car. The brake ducts, the hydraulic suspension, the beautiful sounding V12, the body lines, the engineering put into this car compared to nowadays. Back then this was when BMW actually built cars. In my honest opinion the E32 750iL was the best car, it set a standard for what people who run this world get driven around in. This influences their changes in daily world that affects all of on a regular basis. How a car like this was so ahead of its time that it even sent Mercedes back to the drawing board to figure out how to cram a V12 in their flagship W140 S class.
The bonnet (hood) opens different than other cars, the interior is to die for, so simple yet so advanced.
Suspension is so good I can drive down a dirt road at 20-25mph with a lighter sitting up right on my passenger seat. And not fall.

Today people seem to be obsessed with huge wheel rims and low profile tyres. But as this car shows, smaller wheels with high profile tyres can look good too.
