How to Fill Out a Leggy Tradescantia Nanouk | Easy Soil Propagation Tutorial

- My favorite plant, Pinky, (apparently a tradescantia nanouk) had an extremely tough winter so Ciara devised a plan to rescue this lovable little plant.
Tradescantias - sometimes referred to as a Wandering Jew (Ciara is not a fan of that nickname) - generally grow vine-y and are bald on top so in order to make a fuller, more attractive Pinky we propagated him directly in soil. It is apparently common for these plants to grow long, wandering vines and start to become leggy, rather than full at the top. I sadly did not get to use my shovel but I did get to have some time with the scissors to cut his dead leaves off.
The rescue mission was an absolute success. This little nanouk is now happy and healthy and is slowly starting to look like the Pinky I know and love.

Any updates on pinky?
My tradescantia nanouk has only three tall stems, they have began to fall. What is the best way to cut back and make bushy? Is it possible to cut the stems in half even to create more? (New plant mama - be gentle lol)
Also would love to see an update on how pinky looks now!

I know this is late, but I started mine with the cuttings someone gave me after they trimmed theirs because it was leggy. Their plants filled out rather well. They just cut right below the node about half way down. I then took 4-5 cuttings (they were about 6-7 inches), soaked them in water in a clear container and put in a sunny window until roots started, about 2 weeks. I then planted each one separately for 3 weeks and eventually decided to join them all in one very pretty pot. It's been a few months and they're doing great. Hope this helps.
Update ?? 🥰
Pinky is beautiful, bald or luscious! I also love the coordinated outfits... Molly’s plan? Xx
