    Everyone who scrolls down to the comments, sort by New. All these comments with their injuries are horrifying.
    Regular, fractured my rib and my left elbow. The last crash in the video looks exactly how I fell, except my arm got caught under me and I rolled. Luckily no surgery or cast, just therapy/rehab. I was wearing my Helmet and there's a big scratch on it from when I rolled. I've had my Pint for 3 weeks when this happened.
    I'm not exactly sure what happened. I was cruising around 11-12 mph, with 90% battery, and next thing you know I'm flying through the air! I may have over accelerated but I'm not sure. If FM can design this board to where it balances for you, then they can create a a more safe way for it to "shut off". I don't want to hear any fan boys saying "oh that's impossible, it's physics bro, nothing they can do, git gud". Why can't they implement something where the board will slow down before coming to a complete stop? My Pint is for sale with 60 miles if anyone is interested lol. I think FM's next board will either make or break them. As soon as a politician takes notice, they will raise concern and it will be downhill from there. Stay safe everyone.

    I've had my onewheel for about a month now and have logged over 160 miles. From day 1 I've respected the wheel. I take it easy and I am always mindful of pushback. I haven't fallen once. I truly believe that onewheels are safe as long as you are cautious.

      Finally someone smart. Think of it like a capri-sun; respect that shit. Pushback is so easy to not go past, like come on. Also, know the terrain you are going over!! These things are like jeeps, they can go over anything. But you have to adjust your speed according to how the ground is. Had mine for 8 days now and have 62 miles. Only fallen at super low speeds trying to go over stuff that was too big. Walked it out no problem.

    • @Tactical_Taco

      @Cyril Scetbon battery overcharge is only when at 100% and you try to go down a giant hill. Simply do not charge to full if you live on top of a hill. Or run the battery down several percent before going downhill

    • @Tactical_Taco
      @Tactical_Taco 4 года назад +2

      @Cyril Scetbon it is very simple to avoid though. I have never run into that issue before.

    • @Tactical_Taco
      @Tactical_Taco 4 года назад +2

      @Cyril Scetbon many falls have been caught on video because people ride incorrectly and are not aware of how the board works. Learn how the board works and adjust your riding habits. These things are not on autopilot. You need to be conscious and learn how the board works just like driving a car. This "issue" you are bringing up is a safety shutoff so you dont ruin your battery and have to pay several hundred shipping it back to FM. Simply respect the board or you probably shouldnt be riding

    • @Tactical_Taco
      @Tactical_Taco 4 года назад

      @Cyril Scetbon they are not defects. But keep shouting at the wind by all means. Learn how your board works

    This is one of the most common injuries for cyclists too, especially MTB riders. You get launched forwards, stick your arm out to break your fall, and the shock travels up your arm and transfers directly to the clavicle.

    Just bought a Onewheel XR - rode three days, loved every minute of it. I grew up skateboarding , surfing and later in life, snowboarding. I felt totally comfortable on the board. Then I fell off, not going fast - very slow. Fell back and put my arm down first and jammed it into my shoulder socket. Now it seems I have a rotator cuff injury. Have to get an MRI. I am 56 almost 57, maybe my days on a land board are over. Surfing is still my passion but live far away from the beach. The Onewheel was going to be my training. Still deciding if I should sell it. Love the videos Jimmy keep it up.

    Had my first nosedive at 20.5mph last week. I disrespected the board and tried to lean into it instantly while already going at top speed. No way the board would have been able to give me a pushback at that lean angle and travel speed.
    Didn’t break anything, but my wound is still trying to close a week later.

    100% Jimmy! Guaranteed, it's one of the most common injuries on OneWheel. To bad you can't put up a survey on RUclips..would love to see the stats on this. I'm actually VERY surprised I didn't break mine after a nose-dive at 26mph (yeah, first week I owned it...lesson learned). I did a video myself on it...the shirt I wore was shredded...I'm chalking up the only reason nothing broke was genetics (very solid bone structure). Guaranteed, others would have broken something. I'm 52yrs old...was surprised myself I didn't end up making a hospital visit. But shoulder scars are still there. Messed up my tattoo....🤔🤔🤔 Oh, and YES..your hypothesis is accurate...I lead with my LEFT shoulder and that's the one that has the scars....you can see it even in my most recent videos. Oh, and the other leading injury.....DOG BITES! Yep, that could be another video....how many times have you been chased by a dog? I've got the scars on my leg from that too... 🤔

    I own a pint and haven’t even come close to falling yet. Usually don’t go over 12 mph. I’m gonna assume falls happen much less on the pint. And for this reason I’m extremely glad I did not buy the XR. The larger size of the XR would probably give me a false sense of security at higher speeds which would make me wanna push the limits a bit.

      The Pint, due to its smaller wheel, I believe has more torque and less top end. Same thing happens on electric skateboards, the bigger wheels have higher speed but the smaller wheels have more acceleration and torque. Your feet are also closer together on the pint then on the XR, so you are more centered over the wheel and less chance to over power the board due to less lever weight on one end. I have both and I have purposely experimented with this. Pint is awesome!!

    Yeah, totally correct Jimmy! I had a couple hundred kilometers on my pint. Was bombing around one night and dropped like a bag of hammers. I'm mindful of the pushback but hit a bump at high speed which caused me to accelerate and seize up the board. I ride goofy... I didn't break anything thank goodness. But lots of road rash on my right side and banged up my right elbow & hip...and bruised my ribs and contused by lung. I didn't even realize that I hit my head until I removed my Bern helmet and saw that it was completely cracked along the back. WEAR YOUR GEAR! definitely saved my melon and probably my life. I had run out a couple other potential wrecks and thought I was invincible...I wasn't going to wear my helmet that night... luckily I did... WEAR YOUR GEAR. One full month recovery and had to sleep upright in a pillow cocoon... not fun. Shout out to my osteopath, Dr. Mel, in Hamilton, ON who pushed all my stuff back into place... emergency room doctor just took X-rays and sent me home in pain :( I'm back on the horse now and love my OneWheel and won't give it up... but certainly gained even more respect for it as Jimmy suggests!

    When my Pint nosedived, I grazed my hip and elbow, bruised my shoulder, and the side of my head hit the ground (right-side, as I'm goofy). I always wear protection (helmet, elbow pads and wrist guards), so my helmet did its job well, but I still felt a bit dazed. Thankfully nothing broken, but a valuable lesson learned. The Pint was flashing red at me after the nosedive, and the app said that my top speed had been 19.6 mph, so I think that it just shut off. I was obviously riding it beyond its capabilities, partly, I think, because I had bought an XR about a month before my Pint arrived, and had got used to the speed.

  • @SirLemuel5
    @SirLemuel5 4 года назад +7

    Don't know if I'm too late to post this or not but I'm actually recovering from a massive collarbone fracture as we speak lmao. Went 30mph, nosedived and did a good ol' tuck and roll. The pressure of landing on my shoulder however created a midfracture that was bad enough that it required surgery. So here I am typing with one hand as my lead shoulder arm is stuck in a cast from post-surgery D: I wasn't wearing a helmet at the time but thank god my tuck and roll stopped my head from hitting on the floor--tucked my head below my shoulder then slid on my back for the remainder of the accident.
    Please don't fight against the pushback. Learn from me and all of these other goofs in the chat who have collarbone fractures or injuries ;_; just don't do it.
    P.S. After I broke my clavicle, I still had to ride my Onewheel to get back home so I can drive to the hospital, and I still had fun riding it despite the pain. Don't let stupidity turn you off from buying such a fun commuter vehicle

    the problem with onewheel is that you get confident on riding pretty fast and the speed rises quite fast also. Though i found out that headphones and your favourite music will increase the risk of pushing the board to too fast speeds hugely. I experienced heavy pushback quite fast on my first ride with music, before that i have been keeping speed in control and just enjoying cruising.
    One thing i wonder, why there isn´t also and audible warning system when hitting the top speed.

    Hey Jimmy, I just had a nosedive in Centennial Park in Sydney at a good speed. I was very lucky, left side scraped and have gravel rash from foot to shoulder so lost a good amount of skin but luckily no breaks. Its like riding a motorcycle it doesn't matter how good you think you are, you will fall sooner or later. I was cut off by a car but the board can shut off at anytime as well, which can make it more dangerous than riding a motorbike. In saying that I love it and cant wait for my skin to heal to jump back on.

    I wear one of my motorcycle jackets, with shoulder and elbow pads built in, when I ride in colder weather. I also wear my motorcycle gloves anytime I ride. I've fallen a few times and pushed low 20s on the pint and having real shoulder protection makes a big difference. There are summer solutions but at least the protection of a motorcycle jacket is a simple, sleek way to protect yourself in cold enough temps.

    Your hypothesis is correct. The lead shoulder does get the full brunt of the force of blow. All that energy has to be dispersed somewhere and the clavicle on same side of the impact has to absorb all that energy. When I was a Med student rotating in the ER eons ago, I saw several skateboarders and football players get dealt with the same exact injury. As an anesthesiologist for the past 25 years, I have never given anesthesia for anyone with a clavicular fracture. Most clavicular fractures are usually just treated with a sling and never get to experience the scalpel and my services.

    • @freshlycharged

      Can you think of an activity that causes more clavicle fractures in adults than the Onewheel?

    • @AdamU1016
      @AdamU1016 4 года назад +1

      Jimmy Chang - Clavicular fractures occur in biking, skiing, snowboarding, football, soccer or any situation that can result in a lateral fall resulting in a blow to the shoulder or an outstretched hand. From my personal experience prior to the OneWheel revolution, biking, skateboarding and football injuries were the type of sports I have seen with clavicular injuries. Now with the popularity of OneWheel and other EBoards we have more middle aged men (myself included) getting into high velocity activities. The EUCers have higher chance of faceplant since they are in the forward stance but still not immune to falling sideways. I would not be surprised if the OneWheel and EBoards are coming close to the top spots of most likely biking, skateboarding, snowboarding and contact sports.

After the 3rd crash, the speed in "Atlantic mode" was also reduced to 15 km/h, I don't know why. The battery-electronics-combination seemed to be heavily broken. The german distributor sent the Pint to Futuremotion and they said everything is okay(!!!) and they wanted to have 300$(!!!) to send me the defective board back(!!!). THIS PROBLEM HAS TO BE SOLVED!

    Today was day 1 on my XR. Didn't realize I was leaning through the pushback. Did a nosedive, couldn't get out under myself fast enough and tumbled hitting my shoulder hard on the asphalt. I think it's just bruising but gonna have it looked at soon to be sure nothing is broken.
    I watched lots of videos about pushback, but for new riders I think it's not very easy to distinguish when it's happening or how much. I think an audio alert would be more effective, like some kind of beeping indicator. Would be cool if experienced riders could turn it off but it should be enabled by default. Maybe on brand new boards you can't disable the pushback alarm until you've ridden the board like 50 miles or something.

    I haven't injured myself yet, just a few scratches and bruises. In regards to the tic-toc video, whenever you are using your front foot to turn, sometimes the boards sensors dis-engage and causes the board to shut off. Keeping a more centered stance and making sure equal weight is on the front foot helps with less board failures.

I treat this thing like flying an airplane, always cautious, always sensing for pushback, always a little scared of it. Been riding in Bay and Roam and certainly felt the pushback, i never got to that on the XR. It seems speed is the most significant factor in the video snips shown. And maybe complacency. Just got a pint and have been fine so far but I can understand how easy it would be to nosedive unexpectedly. I originally didn't buy any safety gear thinking I can longboard so I don't need that stuff (yes very dumb). Took my first ride and immediately bought a helmet on Amazon lol. These boards are different than anything I've ridden before. Super fun, but also super touchy in my opinion. The slightest shift in weight is all it takes to get off balance. Luckily, unlike with longboards I've found I enjoy medium speed cruising and carving a lot more than flying at max speed. I'll update this if I take a bad fall at some point. Stay safe guys!

    IMHO - They should use the Bluetooth facilities to create an auditory pushback function. The result would be something similar to the way park distance control works. You'd hear a series of beeps that become more manic with a shorter period between them as you approached inevitable Superman status. Now mind this can't work for the instance where you hit something in your path or there's an abrupt transition in slope. That said the VAST majority of these bails are flat ground, balls out speed shows. In that case you have IMHO relatively stable parameters around which to build an early warning function.

I've been doing a lot of riding with my dogs, and they provide a lot of "forward momentum" allowing me to lean back. in this leaned back position i have yet to fall, even with a lot of off-roading. i wonder if keeping your weight back but keeping the board tilted forward is the safest way to ride.
