Good for doublelift for supporting his friend. Dont agree with the 1/100 person being homophobic in the gaming community, the number is definitely way higher than that, but i get what he was trying to say.
naw theres definetely a lot of people who say things like thats gay or whatever but only like 1/100 or less actually say from a homophobic viewpoint. @@Glazierstar Exactly. Something people need to learn is sometimes you make people feel bad on accident when you were trying to be nice. If you actually have a good relationship and care about this person you should want to resolve that. Idk how so many people struggle to understand this.
@@Lsocs But you shouldn't have to feel bad about something that clearly was with good intentions, that was said because we don't have the information to consider it "wrong to say". Of course once you have that information, its good to apologize to basically "clear the air" and show you know its NOW, not okay, but you shouldn't necessarily feel bad for what you said years before because you were lacking information that someone didnt share with you, and if someone takes it out on you, they're just toxic.
@@PaintbaIl4Fun I agree. I'm just saying in my experience people apologize even if they had good intentions. Of course that person should know you well enough and accept your apology if it was truly unintentional.

I'm Bi myself, I don't act particularly gay , my behavior is odd sometimes as in un-coordinated, but I've had plenty of GFs before , first time I faced homophobia, was when going out on a party with my friends dressed as a Nun(haloween) and a girl on a street said something to the likes of... "LOOK THIS GUY IS BENT" ... in fact Guys have been very supportive in my personal life, I've face more criticism from women ... it felt weird af not gonna lie, but then again I've never felt influenced by anyones opinions If you're gay or bi and think just regular guy behaviour to be toxic I think , you're not being honest with yourself. I talk like that about guys , with my gay friends too , it's not unique to Straight people. The real homophobia is TARGETED and Intentional.
I mean it was from Biofrost own experience, since he was 8. He got in touch with his own sexuality but the environment he was surrounded in really didnt provide a safe, comfortable sense to be open. Thus, it creates a build up and all the toxicity from the community makes it burst. I myself also dont really have a problem with straight guys being a lil too careless to assume. But i do hope that straight guys and girls and actually everyone to not just assume other people always into the opposite gender.
@@senpajishere6203 A lot of worries are hugely exaggerated majority of people are open to the fact once they know , if they don't know they don't simply assume you're gay and treat you "normally". Nobody is a mind reader , the fact that you felt uncomfortable is really unrelated. You have to put aside your own fears and worries and look at people objectively. There is a very distinct difference between peoples behavior when they know and don't know , and vast majority of people are not that "scared" of it. Majority of the Homophobia and bullying comes from people poor backgrounds who are already troublemaker or people that are naturally extremist. Extremist religious , extremist Family values. In League I've been making gay jokes and not once Have I heard anything remotely homophobic , toxic yes , but homophobia is a no-no. Some people not knowing that I'm Myself BI , would even assume I'm being homophobic. When in reality is the opposite. So It's VERY difficult for me to imagine that being gay changes anything for a pro player, it's noting like when I WAS YOUNG ,being gay would automatically exclude you from ALL forms of Social interactions and you could be fired from your job for it. Different times tl;dr'; Your discomfort is not a sign someone is homophobic , it's a sign that you need to say something rather than to keep everyone in the dark and assume they're evil. You need to take personal accountability for keeping it a secret too.
Stories like this highlight why we should normalize people just coming out. If Biofrost had felt like he could've walked in day 1 as a pro and said he was gay, I'm sure all the uncomfortable situations between him, DL, and others could've been avoided. I was in a similar position to DL when one of my best friends in hs came out as gay, and he only admitted it to me after I kept teasing him about girls
What we should actually normalize is assuming that anyone you meet could be LGBTQ+ and just assume that any point on the sexuality spectrum could apply to that person until you learn differently. But, yeah, that isn't going to happen anytime soon. Coming out is a very complicated thing and isn't as easy as just doing it. Some people go decades before feeling okay with coming out. Sometimes it is because of financial reasons, or safety reasons, or religious reasons, or, or, or. Even if day 1 as a pro he knew it wouldn't affect his job, that doesn't mean he would feel okay doing it.
@@aprilfools3348 you say that yet we know for a fact stats like "90% of people are straight" have been skewed forever by people not feeling safe and lying. Its like how people say "there are no gay people in the middle east" no they are either dead or hiding the fact they are gay to not get fucked over. Throughout history so many people at the very least participated in "gay" activities.
Good on you, DL. Nobody is perfect, nobody can be perfect. Except me, of course. But admitting to those faults, and making an active effort at improving, that takes courage. I applaud you.
This is the right response. It's not about people being sensitive (most of the time), it's about having respect and consideration for the people you care about. I'm personally not super offended by the word f*ggot or derivatives of that word, but friends struggle to realize that using it as a general pejorative doesn't divorce it from it's context/history as a slur. Somehow it's a controversial take among gamers that using an unchangeable aspect of someone's identity as an insult (even towards something unrelated) can ever not be disrespectful. Cause I've told one of my friends it was cool for him to keep using it and like I'm definitely not going to just drop him because I care about him, but I wish this issue didn't get reduced to "PC culture" or censorship. It's just plain and simply about respecting one another.
Growing up it was just the norm to be homophobic. It’s only in the last 8 years or something that the norm has shifted. When I was a kid we would literally use the word gay as a way to express discontent. Teacher says recess is over and to do some homework, all the kids would say “that’s so gay.” It was just a part of culture. I hope that kids in the US nowadays have a culture of acceptance and understanding instead.
The thing is it’s not homophobia - kids using those terms, etc isn’t because of hatred it’s just a lack of understanding - I know people who are gay now who used to say that stuff. But all of it stems from a lack of understanding of what the words actually mean.
I think people need to stop doing the whole "coming out" thing, like its 2022, nobody actually cares if ur gay, its only the trolls who say anything negative, like people, need to stop being like "dont bully him hes gay" cos thats part of the problem, you are victimizing him for no reason. You are indirectly insinuating that being gay is a reason to be bullied.
People do care though - it's obviously important. Unless you are gay yourself you can't imagine how important a "coming out" moment can be for some people. Don't try to take that away or diminish its importance. Standing up for your friends and spreading the message not to bully people because of their sexuality is an important message, regardless of what year it happens to be.
Notice how along with saying we, DL said “I”. He said “I was apart of making him uncomfortable and I was directly responsible for making him uncomfortable.” THATS accountability.
My mother is gay. I hear toxic comments about gay people all the time and then I drop that on them. Shuts them up real fast. We all live in bubbles and often don't consider that the larger world around us doesn't conform to us. Good of you to admit, and better learn from, the pain you caused your friend. That is the best message I have heard in a long time. DL, I respect your honesty and integrity.
I had always kind of had a feeling that Vincent was gay. Like, that's just the kind of vibe I got off of him. I have a lot of friends that are openly gay, but weren't open about it for a long time but I just knew. I'm so happy for him that he was able to gather up the courage in a position like his, to be open about who he is. I will always support him as a person, and a League of Legends player whether he be a pro player, or simply a content creator. We love you BioFrost!!!
It's rarely assholes who are homophobic, or racist, or whatever. What usually happens is people like doublelift cause accidental harm. That's super important for people to understand.
A lot of us were insensitive around the 00s. I remember we used to call each other "gay" as an insult. I'm in my 30s now but I hope the kids today aren't as dumb as we were.
The point of the insult is to insult a straight guy’s masculinity. You’re not insulting a gay guy by calling him gay. Lol. It’s also often said in good fun and some people can’t take a joke.
I think a big problem is also how normal it is for guys to talk like that. If you did something unmanly-like then you would be called gay and some people just say it without really understanding what they are really saying. All because everyone in the environment talks like that so it becomes the norm. I have been guilty of that and thats why I havent called anyone gay since. And if you really think about it, calling someone gay isnt really an insult. like its kinda dumb
I mean they were bunch of guys living together in a gaming house, its normal you would ask those questions. And it's pretty common they would talk shit with each other jokingly. But hats off to DL for apologizing.
Good job for Peter on acknowledging his past mistakes. But I don't know if TSM in particular was the right team for Vincent to have begun his eSports career given this news. While many at TSM are great and probably accepting, I just don't see Andy would have...
Nice to see you own up on your mistakes, but I do think even if he wasn't gay that behavior would still be problematic. I personally had similar experiences with friends before, the difference was I just didn't want to date at the time, but they always tried to pressure me into meeting or hooking up with chicks, because it didn't occur to them that I didn't want to, even tho I was telling them I'm good. I was neither gay or bi, I just had a stressful toxic relationship I came out of and I was just enjoying being by myself the year after. It just feels like especially among extroverted men theres this kind of tone deafness around dating.

Unfortunately gay and fag just became synonymy's with bad or some negative connotation but almost no one who says it is referring to actual gay people at all. But obviously if ur gay and hear that shit its definitely gonna feel that way. Just unfortunate, but over time i think more and more people are realizing that using those words can hurt people without you realizing and using them less, gonna be a while before thats the mainstream in the gaming community tho.
@@karljones7976 I don't think people should stop using words because they're afraid of offending somebody that they don't know. Can't really hate on people for that the use of the word should not be removed it would be similar to calling someone a "bitch", or "retard", stupid, but there is no hate or malice behind it.
At that point you might as well not use any words because it can offend someone. Let somebody know and most people will accept and be respectful to you. No need to remove the word or sayings out of a community because of offending people that is not within peoples knowledge.
@mcchickenz yea i know a gay guy like that too but thats the minority not the majority, like what are you even saying
@@PureGaming1845its not about not trying to offend someone its about not putting your own convenience over other peoples feelings. Like im not saying that people shouldnt be able to say it im just saying that it is objectively wrong to do so in a public setting. Im all for free speech but just cuase you want to call someone a fag or retard doesn't mean its right. Not that im judging cause i love those words and dont use them to put down actual people with mental disabilities or gay people but if im being honest with myself there is no need to use them and I would be a better person not to do so in a public setting. Again not to not offend someone or because my speech should be limited, just so i can become a better person and care about others more, but yea its hard cause those words are so engrained in our culture
@mcchickenz yea americans are very sensitive in general when it comes to insults and anything like that which is really stupid but its how it is here, as much as I don't like it is is the reality, like I wouldn't say we have tons of flamboyant gay people who are just extra sensitive its really just the whole culture in general. Being truthful and letting others know how you feel is definitely for the best but, it does make you feel quite vulnerable.

One of us. One of us. ONE OF US.
Thank you for this
The thing I always struggle with is that, 1. I think that ofcourse Vincent deserves all the love and support and is very brave for this and this should get all the attention so we show other people who struggle that we do accept them and we do care about them.
2. But on the other hand, I wish this wasn't seen as brave, because it should be something normal if that makes sense. Like I do think Vincent is brave, but I wish he wouldn't have to be, like a message like this shouldn't be important because it should be normal to all of us. I hope I phrased this in an understandable way.
maybe 2) will happen in like, a 2122 utopia - definitely not now or the near future
I understand what you mean and I agree, unfortunately homophobia is still a big thing in the world and certainly in esports.
@@thebrathusproject true and that's sad to think about. I don't want to feel like it's special when someone comes out because I feel like it isn't but I feel like I need to emphasize the importance to help raise the awareness if that makes sense

A lot of what DL said in this video resonated with me
Assuming he’s not gay, how is that a wrong thing to do
@@HonorViego If DL did something that made Bio feel uncomfortable, then it's normal to say he is wrong and apologize regardless of your intentions. One person says sorry for making you uncomfortable. The other person says hey its okay i know you didn't mean to, I appreciate the apology. This is how two normal functioning people will interact and is probably what happened here since they are good friends.

I knew it long ago. Glad he came out and hope it helps him
I'm Bi myself, I don't act particularly gay , my behavior is odd sometimes as in un-coordinated, but I've had plenty of GFs before , first time I faced homophobia, was when
going out on a party with my friends dressed as a Nun(haloween) and a girl on a street said something to the likes of...
"LOOK THIS GUY IS BENT" ... in fact Guys have been very supportive in my personal life, I've face more criticism from women
... it felt weird af not gonna lie, but then again I've never felt influenced by anyones opinions
If you're gay or bi and think just regular guy behaviour to be toxic I think , you're not being honest with yourself.
Different times
tl;dr'; Your discomfort is not a sign someone is homophobic , it's a sign that you need to say something rather than to keep everyone in the dark and assume they're evil.
You need to take personal accountability for keeping it a secret too.
i appreciate DL taking the accountabilty for his actions. amazing self awareness
Dl, Soren, Sven, Hauntzer, Parth... one major name missing in his list of people who'd accept Bio Daddy.
LOL
Oof
@@connix6990% people are straight. There is no wrong assuming people are straight
@@aprilfools3348 you say that yet we know for a fact stats like "90% of people are straight" have been skewed forever by people not feeling safe and lying. Representation is needed in e-sports. Good on Biofrost for coming out.
@@Xeonaa yes but it perpetuates a gay people are victims mentality. They are not any more. Calling them victims attracts people to hate on them.
just a little tip from people especially to queer people don't ever say "we know" or "I was right" or "yeah it was obvious"...

Aaaaaaaaa are people actually surprised about this... Glad he's confident enough in himself now to put it out there and be who he is

Glad you support him! Nice to have true friends.
Doublelift is doing so much for the gay gamer community by co-streaming with Sneaky and Meteos, keep up the good work!
While many at TSM are great and probably accepting, I just don't see Andy would have...
he always will be our biodaddy
now it's time for Peter to come out
Why is this a video on his channel? Monitized
Lol I can’t wait to rewatch TSM legends with this context
Nice to see you own up on your mistakes, but I do think even if he wasn't gay that behavior would still be problematic. I personally had similar experiences with friends before, the difference was I just didn't want to date at the time, but they always tried to pressure me into meeting or hooking up with chicks, because it didn't occur to them that I didn't want to, even tho I was telling them I'm good.
I was neither gay or bi, I just had a stressful toxic relationship I came out of and I was just enjoying being by myself the year after. It just feels like especially among extroverted men theres this kind of tone deafness around dating.
i remember the yoona setup haha
