Thanks Tom and Kyle! Your videos on the Mini Cooper SE really help me make up my mind on buying it. I picked up mine a week ago and could not be happier with the car.
I'm on my third BMW Mini, this is an EV for Mini fans first and foremost. If you just want a cheap EV a used Leaf will fill the bill. For car fans and Mini fans in particular, this car is very appealing.
I would love to see more details on the suspension differences between the SE and the S or JCW. For example, the SE is about 1/2" taller. Did Mini fit taller springs to do this or maybe taller spring perches? Can I swap in S or JCW springs instead to lower the car? What about sway bars? How big is the SE sway bar? Is it basically the same as the S sway bar? Does the car understeer like the S does? Thanks!!
I wish it was RWD and a bit more range, 150-200. However, I've seen vids where this SE perfoms well in winter temp. conditions. I don't like torque steer on FWD as most don't. Wondering what battery deg. will be, we'll see. You both provide great info. and vids. Thanks
The bigger, heavier, slower-cornering, Chinese-built, longer-range electric MINI that BMW says is being delayed by a number of years? No thanks. This SE will be considered a classic when that one eventually shows up (likely sans frunk unless it's a lot bigger).
I agree with you guys. I know that it isn’t perfect. But there area some benefits to the gas car. The handling the fit and feel. It just needed an electric motor. And they did it. It would be cool if they redisigned the entire car but… why. It’s better, faster and had better weight balance than the gas mini. Yes it’s perfect as a companion to my long range model Y. My wife son and I can drive the Mini when we will be alone in the car for a short drive. (And we can use the hov lane) Or if it’s just two off us. Or just me and my dog. And of course we have the Y. For everything else.
Okay. Interesting. What about regular maintenance expense and other issue expense? Aren't these almost as expensive to maintain/repair as a BMW? Currently have a 2013 Prius and I've taken it in for a "problem" only once. Otherwise, just maintenance. Tires about $600.00 to replace all. i know these are very different cars but considering all options.
I have an F30 Bmw 3 series. I’m in Europe so it has the small 1.5 liter 136hp engine. The car is almost bare bones. I like the car but I would love to have things like Hi-fi, nav, better seats etc. However, the new 3 series costs just too damn much in my country. I love how this mini looks. The top spec of this is rather cheap as well. It has all the bells and whistles. In addition, I don’t have to pay any taxes or fuel costs. One issue is, the initial price I have to pay is one third of my car’s worth. So I’m confused at this point. Should I sell my car and get this small but fun car? Or should I just keep driving my 3 series, which is actually a very good and very sizeable car, and keep my cash.
Where can I find the MINI Cooper SE's crash-test results? MINI has added reinforcements to the SE's door sills and A-pillar for increased safety. I was surprised to learn in the video that the frame carrying the motor and inverter is part of the crash-protection equipment. I'd read earlier that the frame was created to mate with the MINI Cooper's standard engine mounts.

Agreed 👍
@ATS599 Around town for me!
I think you guys just sold me a mini Cooper SE
They definitely sold me on it for my wife. We've ordered ours 👍
@@MiguelRodriguez-mj2ec that's awesome 👍
I'm so close to pulling the trigger on one today
@@abbaby555 Awesome! If you do congratulations! 😁
Thank you for the video. What are the holes visible in the battery pack at 16:02?
Great review guys 👏 my wife has a 2013 Cooper S and it's so much fun to drive.

Great video guys!
Thanks for the video. I have to point out that the Mini Cooper SE battery is liquid cooled, so yeah, no fans will ever come on to cool the battery.
Hi guys, the 'corona' wheel has officialy been renamed by Mini to 'Power Spoke' wheel. Just for info.
Yoeri yea saw that mentioned on Motoringfile.
Thanks. Yes, we wrote that in the post with this video on InsideEVs. However, when we recorded this, the name wasn't changed yet.

I3 ;)
how many times did you have to service it and what was the problems if any?
Presumably they will be able to do a "skateboard" version of the Mini eventually, with a little more capacity and a frunk??
Sure....eventually. :)

If I have a 75 mile round trip drive to work, will this car still be able to do that with the inevitable battery degradation after 5 years?
I would also be interested in the answer to this!
My solar batteries have been going for 10 years they stay in the 20% to 80% range same applies look after them they will do 200k
So is it possible to get the cool euro high beam cuts outs on there?

Hi Tom!
Put a range extender in it.
How much money do you need to make per year to take the full $7500 tax credit?
Depends on all of your income and deductions.
@@pambritz3166 you have no idea, do you
@@golfish8589 Yep! I do. Depends on all of your income and deductions. Without that info, it's garbage in/garbage out - no value to anyone.
Safety 3/5 in some catagories keeps me away. This would be my first choice otherwise.

@@insightman I was looking at the ICE counterpart. If the electric gets 5/5 in all catagories I'll buy January 1
I need Android Auto. Will not compromise.
Oh the 'yanks' don't like the wheels? We don't buy it then.
