This was the best truck! Built quality - solid, nav system - easy to use, towing capacity and interior storage - best in class. Darn you Dodge for discontinuing the Dakota. I loved the second-gen 2005-11 models. These trucks were awesome.
I love my 03 Dakota 4.7 engine 5 speed transmission when new it had a sticker price of $39,800. Now it has 230,000 miles on it still runs like a clock. Now with the current truck market it still hold it value well.
@@matthaddock1817 yeah it is sadly with age and miles though the old girl is looking a little rough now. However mechanically she is still pretty solid and running practically as good as new.
@@travelinman482 none mine has as of now 254,000 miles on original engine and transmission. Still running as dependable as it did 10 years ago when I first got it. Of course she is showing her age but maintenance is important and not trying to run like a race car taking care I believe she still has alot of miles to give. It does have a ever slight transmission fluid leak but it's where the fluid line connects to the oil cooler. I add a guart of fluid about every 5,000 miles. To be honest that's seems like a good thing for longevity. With that many miles changing the fluid could cause it to start slipping so by adding a quart now and then keeps the fluid fresher and maintains better lubrication.
@@kenjett2434 First, thanks for the quick reply. Secondly, I wonder why some people say that Dodge transmissions (or their trucks in general) are crappy? I know that some people don’t maintain or do the upkeep of their vehicles like they should be doing.
Stock mpg with auto is 20 and mine works out to about 26-29mpg on a good trip with plenty of hills to coast. Also on the flat with the cruise set at 55 it will get 26 with out any other input. This is true with all sticks because they have less mass in the manual trans to rotate and thus more efficient. Manual trans usually weighs less than a 1/2 its auto counterpart. Also with sticks you get a few inches of contact area between gears and with an auto you get several feet when added up overall
I am referring to the 5 Speed A535 Found in more than a a decade worth of Dakotas. These transmissions are known to be available in only two states - Junk and Working. Rule of thumb if you are pulling it for issues, money is wasted on rebuild. Then there is leaking cab and so on. Mine gets another 7-10 mpg over the auto version. I have my doubts that Dodge has improved the transmission since. I will be installing a late model 5sp trans so we will see if it is better.
GREAT TRUCK ! This is my 3rd Dakota.. Purchased all as total loss and rebuilt them.. so impressed with the 4.7 and it its ability to pull a full size bass boat.. keep stepping up until I have the sweet 11 I have now. Painted the Dakota and boat to match So Nice ! What a matched set ! Keep in mind ... There are so many vehicles that the sales start to fall off and manufactures start loading them up in quality and options to turn there sales around But the vehicle is Doomed and discontinued .. The last year modal is the year of perfection but a total looser for the car company
I'm in the market for a truck. I'm really leaning towards the dakota i need it for a work/ daily driver truck. Is there anything important such as issues that i should know about before buying? And also which engine is best the v6 or 4.7 v8? Thanks for the help in advance :)
@Skippy585 I agree, where the Hemi?? But at least the Off-Road package (TRX) is decent. Also Dodge should have worked on priceing a bit better but with out all the rebates, no wonder they lost so much money.
Traded my 08 trx detonator in with 9000 miles on it.got what I owed.had it for months.tons of problems.from contaminated paint, engine squealing on takeoff, front and rear windows leaking.water ruined interior, and headliner.carpeting cut too short also from door sills.chrysler yanked my warranty, and wanted me to file suit.THIS IS NOT A JOKE!
+madmanownzall Ive had the v8 for about a month now (2007) i get about 17mpg city keeping it under 2000rpm. I haven't taken it on the highway yet though but i imagine it will be a little better EDIT: I should also note that it is the club cab. Had the option for the 4 door but i chose the club cab because less weight=more power/economy.
Mine is a 90 and is among the family of Dakotas that have these issues 1. Cab leaks pass side undetermined location. 2. Oil Pump binds sub 20deg causes timing to jump and missing until warmed up fully. 3. A535 Trans is Weak - Mine is now functional so I should stop bitching - Still missing R-5 Synchro Clip In short I really don't like the truck, but that is just me. The added mpg is from hyper-miling efforts the numbers eb and flow, but a stick of any vehicle is always better when driven right.
Ok, the Canyon does offer a Vortech 5300 V8 with about the same HP but trails a bit in toruqe. Personaly I like the style of the 4th generation Dakota but the lazy Arse people at dodge never boosted the power level up on the 287 Magnum tech and not to mention there was no Hemi. But the over all not bad.
What makes the older ones better? I have an 04 quad cab 4x4, the only thing I can complain about the new Dakota's is the styling. 05-07 looked like shit, 08 and 09 styling is an improvement but still dont look good. Well, when it comes to performance, the new Dakota's are lightyears ahead of the ones from almost 10+ years ago, and reliable to boot!
got alot of sevice records from this nightmare I can post,if you don't believe me.Truck can't even burn out.rear drum brakes???WTF??.please contact me if you have any questions/concerns
I have 2001 dodge dakota sport V-8 4x4. My truck is great running for 9 year. I try buy 2010 dodge dakota. But it look cheap and not right! @omg122448 is right. I do not trust this !! They continue in the UK
Cameron Felton For real? Dammit the US gets passed over for everything

@@hakeemsd70m he is lying british can't drive pickup trucks the gas is too expensive there plus they all drive manual cars there
do you like this better than then RAM?

This must be the Laramie version as the upper trims get as expensive as up to $40,000 like yours.

First off, I love my quad cab, second, that chick is wearin a toque with shorts. My kind of crazy.
Where can I get those flares?
They’re bushwhackers basically
The reg cab and 5 speed manuals didn't sell, thats why they're no more.
Why did they stop making them??

ABS in back only?
Dodge Dakota or Toyota Tacoma??? I know I want the V6, 4 door! :)
What did you get
what year was it made?
Just tow a jet-ski?? Come on, my dad has a 21 foot boat that weighs right at 4,000 pounds and it tows that just fine!
if that 4.7 had a manual gearbox I would take a stab at it
They did make it with a 6spd manual v8 combo.
these are just as much as a full size pick up wtf!
seriously? 300,000 miles? that's amazing!
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE R/T PACKAGE
Dude, I have a 2005 club cab 4X4, It only gets 12.66 mpg, 3.7L V6.
I want this but black
You missed the fact that they can not hold on to a transmission worth a shit, look them up. Transmissions are easily killed with the simplest task.
i love it!!!
fyi the gmc canyon and chevy colorado now have v8's available
my dad pulled a 30ft camper light weght (still 7000 pounds) just fine. and the sob screams
I believe like 296,xxx if you want to get technical! =p
the last good year was 04 have looked worse and worse ever after maybe if they made it look ok they wouldn't have to cancel it.
