😢 may you rest in peace Amo ! you have brought so much joy to this world and I am sure you’re reunited with your doggie. Thanks for everything you will be missed.
This song is wonderful. I like his simple guitar accompaniment too. I learned this song from John Roberts/Tony Barrand's Dark Ships In The Forest & I've been passing it on to my Summer Sing for Adults class for 30 years or maybe more. Bedlam was a really scary place to be dumped if you were mentally ill. Joh & Tony have beautiful harmony. This guy is really good.
Bedlam or St. Bethlehem Hospital was the first charitable institution in London to provide 'care' for the mentally ill. It was probably no walk in the park, but way better than the streets.
That is a nice song, I use to listen it and sing it while driving my car. The voice of the singer is even better, that is a really good version of Mad Tom of Bedlam

BRAVO!!!! marvelous! When this pandemic ends we should think of inviting you to come to Lisbon!
Stunning! I have been so over this song - too many people covering it in our circles. But your interpretation is terrific and refreshed my appreciation of the song... LOVE the sound of the cuatro and coupled with your voice, this is a great performance!
That's a WONDERFUL rendition of one of my favourite songs, Amorkreuz! Thank you, thoroughly! 🙂👍 Subscribed - and may all you commenters and listeners on here, do likewise, and share the video, too! 🙂👍 Can anyone tell me also, what the fine instrument he is playing that wonderful accompaniment on, is? Looks like a guitar, but can't be a plain guitar. Some kind of a cross between a guitar and a mandolin, anybody? 🙂👍
This is a 17th century song from England. Yes England has great traditional music too, but for some reason, they don't want everyone to know it. It seems as if they don't anyway.
I think the English folk revival sadly got eclipsed by the emerging British rock n roll scene of the 60s (not that I disparage it, I love rock too). That didn't happen so much in places like Ireland, their folk scene went far more mainstream and was and still is popular overseas.

Modern-day English, with a few obscure words. For to see Mad Tom of Bedlam, ten thousand miles I'll travel. Mad Maudlin goes on dirty toes, for to save her shoes from gravel./ [Chorus] Still I sing bonny boys, bonny mad boys, Bedlam boys are bonny, for all go bare and they live by the air, and the want no drink or money./ I went down to Satan's kitchen, for to beg me food one morning and there I got souls piping hot all on the spit a-turning [Chorus]
Me staff has murdered giants, and me bag a long knife carries for to cut mince pies from children's thighs with a-which to feed the fairies [chorus] A spirit light as lighting would on me travels guide me, and the moon would quake and the stars would shake... ...and I fall asleep now, but I think you get it.
Well done one of my favourite versions of this ballad. You've done it justice and much more. Have a listen to this one its very different but another good 'un. watch?v=McRkEmPx3Eg

They do, but everyone thinks the songs are Irish!
I wish people in England would appreciate their folk music, instead of mocking it!

Very cool instrument, the cuatro
expertly performed
Vocally subdued but the instrumental is on a level all it's own, cheers.
Ich liebe es! Ich freue mich auf dich und Robyn hoffentlich im September!
Perfect cover :) instrument sound a little bit like dulcimer
You do a great job. I hope you play at clubs, bars, or parties so you can be heard live.
I saw amo on highland games in oekhoven 2 years ago. Now i wonder, where i can buy a good cuatro
Dat accent.

Thanks :) The instrument is a cuatro puertoricuenho (10-string)
Thank you. That was me next question
Спасибо,красивая песня,жаль Английского не знаю.
Thanks. I wondered.
OMG, you are awesome!

that´s incredibly awesome
i like your voice and your skill on that guitar (by the way what kind of guitar-like instrument is that???)
Love this
This is awesome, though you need a better mic set up.
Looks like a Quatro. Spanish instrument. never heard it played in a european style before. it's exactly what i'd expect!
FilthCity It`s a cuatro puertorricuenho, ten strings, five chorus, tuened in open drop A ;)
Sounds great! reminds me of John Renbourn a bit.
Spain is in Europe.
My mistake, it is a Latin American instrument.
ObNebur as an american we associate "spanish" things as mexican/south american most the time. haha.
Wow, I love your version! What sort of instrument are you playing? Sounds really nice and words well with your voice.
Super Sound! Wie heißt das Instrument?
You may take rest now. Its time. See you again someday!
I'd already posted your version down below 2 months ago :)
I need tabs
... kind of d,C a, G... i don`t know Tabs or Notes... sorry i can`t read notes...
@@amokreutz Thak you 🖤
What is he singing it in? Old or middle english? Or do I just not pick up on his accent lol
English, with one of the many Scottish accents, I think...
open drop a ( A E a d fis)
Me staff has murdered giants, and me bag a long knife carries
for to cut mince pies from children's thighs with a-which to feed the fairies
[chorus]
A spirit light as lighting would on me travels guide me,
and the moon would quake and the stars would shake...
...and I fall asleep now, but I think you get it.
don`t know...some kind of eifel-accent... ;)
