A number of years ago I was at a Beatle Convention. In the room I was in there was a couple of hundred people. Alan was there and pretty drunk. The local TV station had the crew out and he yells out " We are at a F&^%ing Beatles night and not one person is singing or playing Beatles music " My friend pokes me and says get on the piano and do a few numbers. I first said no, then Alan said can you actually play? So I get on the piano and do a medley of songs and the cameras are on me. After I was done I was interviewed and Alan came up to me and literally was crying. He said and I quote " You were the best John Lennon singer I've ever heard" Quite a compliment. Yet then I turned to him and said " Alan I played all Paul songs " He laughed and put his arms around me and I bought him a drink. LOL.. True story
I met him and Bob Wooler at a Beatles day in Manchester in the early 1980s. Bob was very polite but Alan's language was ripe to say the least. I think he was on his VERY best behaviour in this video!!!
A British friend of mine said that there was a pub where it was known that you could often find Allan Williams, and that he was often happy to talk to strangers about the Beatles if they would buy him drinks. So when my friend was in Liverpool, he went there, and sure enough, found him, bought him drinks, and listened to his stories!

I was fortunate enough to have dinner and a lot of drinks with Alan williams in his home on boxing day 1990. He was a hillarious and truely generous host. It's a day that resulted from a chance meeting in a beatles nostlalga bar on mathew st in liverpool. my friend and i had no idea who this odd guy was, inviting us to his home for dinnrer .it was a day that nearly didn't happen, And one I will never forget ! He's was a simpley awsome man !
I knew Allan and his wife in the 70's and 80's, and found both of them really nice and charming people. He always called a spade a spade, like most Liverpudlians, and could be quite outspoken, but he had a wonderful sense of humour and had an extremely generous nature. By the way, he didn't wear a wig!

I met him once in an Irish pub in Liverpool, Shenanigans. In April 2001. He was special. He told me about pedophile managers during the 60s, and satanism a bit, then he said he said too much to me. I wish he would have told me how the Beatles got into Aleister Crowley. I like the Jacaranda. Liverpool is boss. Very pretty and kind lassies. ❤️
Hey. Better to be Pete best than Not. He had a great experience and yes he was badly treated but. He was at The Birth of the second wave of Rock n Roll. He contributed to its development. That’s a great legacy.
Luckiest man in the world he was earning twice as much money as anyone else in his family doing what he liked. Then years later earned a few million for work he'd done decades before and has earned a good living out of being in a band that went onto being the biggest band in the world. If he'd been in any other band at the time and been fired, he'd have been long forgotten. Pete can now get a call from the USA asking for an interview about about the beatles, they buy his ticket pay for his accommodation and he get 5k standard interview fee, and it's normally to promote something he himself will ultimately profit from " always beatles connected". If a new documentary or movie TV series about the beatles is commimg out Pete gets the calls and hops on the jets. He's made a fortune for being an ex Beatle before they became big.
I'm so happy for Pete Best that he finally made some bread in the end. He deserves it. He helped form the legend. He pulled the girls in, to see them, more than the others.
Ringo was a better drummer, and a nice man. Pete was also a nice man, good for the group as a bandmate. Easy to get along with, not a bad bone in his body. Glad things eventually worked out for him with Anthology. Allan Williams book was good. Many anecdotes. Allan was there at the beginning. I agree with John, that they were a good performing act in Hamburg and Liverpool. Some of the stuff on the Star Club recording is very good, including some of their earliest writings.
Williams is right on the money for most of this, he's not trying to please fans by glossing over things to make them sound better, he's being truthful. Sometime fans can get delusional and see no wrong in their hero's, Anyone who said Elvis took pills, and was prone to threatening and abusive behaviour is called a liar, fans often don't want to hear the truth
@sg-yq8pm Oh my god!!! You are so passionate about things that do not matter on the grand scale of things. You should put your energy in to something more productive pal.
How many people can say that they were first beatles drummer not a bad c v really. Sounds like he has lived a full life, and been recognised in the end for his part in the beatles story, and been financially rewarded, so it all turned out right.
If i was Allan Williams i would talk about my experience with the Beatles also if i got money for it. I cant say there is anything wrong with that. Pete Best too, at least he got his royalty money in the end when Anthology was released in the 1990s
@Fool OnTheHiLL Yeah, though he seems a happy guy these days and thats the most important thing. Just to add, I made something Beatles related, to see it just type in the search bar above...'Beatles sketch with snippets'
Remember the Beatleweeks when Allan Williams was always there, in 2019 there weren't any interviews at the Adelphi, Pete did appear at the new place where Lennons Bar used to be
The guy who gave the best band in the world their first break when no one would even touch them. May God Bless his soul. Thanks Alan, if it's wasn't for you we would not have had the privilege to enjoy such wonderful music for ever and ever. The world is forever indebted to you.
A real loss. Only Pete Best has that pure unspoiled link to the past to revive that time. Paul & Ringo's memories are too colored a lens due to the wealth.
Allen Klein,Billy Preston,Sid Bernstein,George Martin,Tony Sheridan,Harry Nillson,& many more. These were all people affilliated in some way whether business or personal in the Beatles life & history now have all passed on.
10:20 that’s crap, Brian was manager for a considerable length of time before they sacked Pete. And it was done because George Martin said Pete wasn’t good enough to be on the records.
Yes, Pete WAS a very handsome Man, and I've no doubt that McCartney WAS jealous! In the same way he was jealous over Stu and his friendship with John. HOWVER, Pete never "gelled" like the others did and like Ringo obviously did. Plus his drumming was 'limited' at best if you'll pardon the pun. He really wasn't good. I'm glad he got some money from the Anthology and I'm happy for him that he has gained some recognition as he genuinely seems like a lovely guy. Let's face it though, he has spent the last 58 years being famous for getting fired!
@jamesbyersmusic Paul was never jealous of ridiculous Pete who WAS NEVER a very handsome man ! Paul was the handsome and cute one, fact if you have eyes, loved by millions of women. Ridiculous and ordinary Pete Best didn't get over it. He is just rambling and rambling and so jealous ! And Beatles had no need of Best to be successful after he left !
From all of the videos I've seen of Pete Best, I would say he is a very nice man. From all of his performances I've listened to, I would say he was not the right drummer for the Beatles. His style was the wrong fit. I watched a video here on RUclips of Pete drumming for Gerry and the Pacemakers in some pub, and that settled it as far as I and other listeners are concerned. Unfortunately, I can no longer find the video. If you heard it you would know that Pete was supposed to be a Pacemaker, not a Beatle.
Honestly, if Pete Best was a adequate drummer he would have been scooped up by a band with a recording contract in 60 years, wouldn't he? Just the publicity of having the former Beatles' drummer in the band would make the effort worthwhile and yet no one did it. There's more going on than he was just more of a heartthrob than Paul McCartney.
Absolutely. The Beatles were not after fame and fortune. Those are only byproducts of their success. They werd out to make great music. Pete didn't fit in. Didn't have anything to do with the number of girls he attracted. He didn't amount to anything as a drummer after the Beatles. He just wasn't that good.
It really doesn't work that way. Professional musicians are not like professional athletes on teams that get released and if they are any good get signed by another team.
Lets just put it into perspective. There are two kinds of statements-- statements of fact and statement of opinion. WHen Alan talks about his memory of actual events that he saw, he talks about a first hand fact-- he saw it with his own eyes. " I saw them, I hear them, etc" When he talks about stories relayed by other people, but still based on what actually happened in reality. That is a second hand fact. " I heard they, some said that.. etc" When he talks about what he thinks is the reason for things that he is not a first hand or second hand witness, he is sharing an opinion, not a fact. "Pete best was sacked because he was too pretty" is an opinion.
A lot of people believe that to be true. Allen has said that the girls would run right past the three of them just to get to Pete, and I've heard him say that in interviews that go back as far as the 70s. Yes, "opinion" is correct, but I think he was in a pretty good position to make that call.
@@magneto7930 That is still just an opinion.. in fact it is the worst kind of opinion, the lowest and lamest type-- it is called speculation. The fact that girls run to hims does not prove that his looks and not his drumming or attitude that got him booted out.
@@shoepermanbutthman2188 okay, first of all I said it was his opinion, not mine, lame or not. I can't even come close to being justified to make an accurate conclusion. Personally, I think there were a lot of factors involved. His overall character was quite different from theirs. It's no secret that his drumming wasn't great, but I honestly don't think that they were thinking about that at the time. I think they were thinking "okay we've got a drummer making some noise and keeping a beat." Later in years, John would refer to him as a lousy drummer. But back then they were probably thinking that it was better to have a drummer than not. Anyway, this is all my opinion and nothing more.
Hi Do you know anyone who may have photos from 1968 with Alan Williams in NYC during the management event for Apple announcement? I was in and out of NYC and the Beatles lives at many times. Any behind the scene or odd pictures from 1963-1970? I didn't collect pictures. I didn't go to their jam moments. These photos would be odd to find as the pharmacy picture on Paul McCartney and No Other Baby video. The guys were just friends during my spring breaks from school. I was around when Linda was with her daughter. John was a real sweetheart, George superb friend, Ringo greatest and Paul. I believe I last was in touch right before the breakup and Yoko came into the picture.
According to Hunter Davies' great early biography of the Beatles, Paul, though a charmer, was not automatically the most popular Beatle. Pete attracted the most attention. Sutcliffe was seen by fans as a James Dean type. And the German art community who befriended the Beatles thought George "the beautiful boy" with the outsized ears.
Thanks for putting this up! Two of the key people in the early Beatles story. Allan could even be called the father of the Liverpool scene. As for Pete, yet another victim of the dreaded Macca competitive insecurity?
Allan Williams wrote a book about his time as The Beatles Manager - he attempted to portray himself as a professional man of integrity, but consistently exposed himself as a tricky, selfish prick who snidely badmouthed his former clients - particularly Ringo whom he evidently disliked enough to repeatedly disparage as a bad drummer. Pete Best had advantages - he owned a drum kit & his mother ran a club - but he played the drums ineptly, did not improve & was replaced by Ringo who was (& is) one of the best & most creative rock drummers who ever played - plus he showed up, rarely made mistakes & was a team player with an engaging personality which actually made him the most popular Beatle with US audiences. When Williams writes about starting to sing in a club & drawing worshipful admiration & applause from the customers, you know this is ripe, self-serving fantasy from a practiced Bullshit Artist; yes, he was there at that time & place in Beatles History, but everything he said or wrote has to be filtered carefully.
Allan's perceptions of The Beatles were not always correct or how things actually were and happened. He had his 'opinions' but that is OK. It's fun listening to him.
I visited my mates house once, and his mum's boyfriend was a drinker, I went in there was a guy sitting on the couch, it was Alan Williams. I had a drink a while back with him, he was a true piss head. Good fun, RIP.

I laugh when people say Pete Best got all the girls. There were 1000's of girls screaming at them and Pete took all 1000's of them? He was the drummer! Girls take the drummer as a last resort. They had hundreds of groupies.
In the early days, In between sets, the girls would flock to Pete, moving right pastJ ohn and Paul. And in the summertime, when they came home from a gig, Pete would find girls sleeping on his lawn in West Darby, waiting for him to get home, from the Jacaranda or The Cavern.

@@brez9091 - Could it possibly be that one of the reasons that girls were sleeping on Pete's lawn was that Mona ( Pete's mom ) let them ? If you read some of the remarks from Brian Epstein, Mona was always calling him about her son Pete and the Beatles, suggesting this or that. She was very much about promoting her son ( and that's quite understandable ). So just maybe she liked the attention for her son from these girls. On the other side of the coin ( so to speak ), maybe Paul's dad Jim, and MOST CERTAINLY John's aunt Mimi, wouldn't put up with these girls sloggin' about on their lawns, and told them not to hang out there ( possibly even to the point of calling up the Constables to get them off their lawns ). That could very well be one factor on why they hung out at Pete's place, and not at the others....Don't get me wrong here, I understand that many of the girls liked Pete, but many liked the others also. It just could very well be that the other "parents" didn't put up with their privacy being invaded ( i.e., "lawn sleeping" )..... As far as the " they rushed right past the others to get to Pete", that could have happened once or twice, but I don't think it was a "staple", and the only person I have heard this from is Allan Williams....'nuff said.
Well I don't know if Paul was jealous of Pete's good looks or not, but I do know (in my opinion) he was some good looking young man! I can see why the girls were in love with him. I think Paul was cute too, but Pete beat him hands down.
Interesting lift from Wiki ' Jim was later present at a Beatles' concert in Manchester when fans surrounded drummer Pete Best, and ignored the rest of The Beatles. Jim criticised Best by saying, "Why did you have to attract all the attention? Why didn't you call the other lads back? I think that was very selfish of you".[74] Bill Harry recalled that Jim was probably "The Beatles' biggest fan", and was extremely proud of Paul's success. Shelagh Johnson-later to become director of The Beatles' Museum in Liverpool-said that Jim's outward show of pride embarrassed his son.[75
TheDerek47, There are other stories of Pete overshadowing the other three Beatles. At one gig the girls presented Pete with a giant pink teddy bear as a gift, with NOTHING for John, Paul, or George. At another show, Pete received a laceration! A female fan was trying to cut off a piece of his jacket as a souvenir.
I heard that she was trying to cut a piece of his pants off and he ended up circumcised. The foreskin is now available on ebay for 50 pounds buy now. It looks like a pork rind that has been run over by a truck.
they were all very well educated with the exception of Ringo he got lucky they hired only drummers with PhD :p john and paul attended an art school for a few months and george harrison was 15 real intellectuals thats why they became rock legends because of their enormous education compared for example to The Stones or The Shadows :p pete on the other hand had finished high school(WOOOW!) and later on worked as a civil servant plus his mother ran a rock club yeap he was a well educating lad with exceptional family background omg what a bitter and ridiculous remark... b
I don't think you understood properly what Allan was saying. In no way is it sarcastic or bitter. He's basically stating that The Beatles were better educated than the average musician in Liverpool at the time, which is actually true. They all went to excellent grammar schools where the standard of education was very high. What they all did after they finished school is another matter all together. Ringo, unfortunately due to severe illness during his childhood, missed out on a lot of school and eventually stopped going. Btw, Paul didn't go to Art School, that was John and Stu.
paul and george went too but dropped out (its in pauls official biography) still i cant understand how a drummer may be effected by not having a formal education there are many well educated people who have studied music as well and are not successful at all and there are also many almost illeterate musicians who are studied now in universities like various jazzmen-if not bitter, i find his argument invalid and you cant really compare pete to ringo ringo has loads of recorded material and lives all these decades and has proven himself pete best was at beginners level at best when he was a ''beatle'' and since then, his music ''career'' is pretty much a joke ok you can argue what if he were a beatle when being a beatle mattered his life and music would have taken another path perhaps-or perhaps not either way, what ifs are the reason of insanity it is what it is and its really a shame belittling THAT much the most famous (and richest) drummer of all time
δημήτρης αρναούτης οικονομάκης That's news to me. As far as I know Paul and George went to The Liverpool Institute (High School) BUT NOT to Liverpool College of Art. I think you should check that reference. Maybe you're confused with LIPA (Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts) which was co-founded by Paul in 1996 and is housed in his old school. As far as Ringo's education, not once does Allan say that it's a bad or negative thing, he merely states that Ringo didn't have a good school education, which is absolutely true. So he is not making any particular argument or deriding Ringo in any way. Perhaps you're getting confused when Allan says that Ringo wasn't their drummer when he was the Manager. Which again is TRUE.........Pete Best was The Beatles drummer at the time. So he is not criticizing or putting Ringo down in any way shape or form.
err... he adds ''he was so lucky''... and lets say for the shake of argument that paul and george only attended high school is this considered great education even for that era in Great Britain? i m pretty sure they werent the best students in the class too Paul pretty much says the same thing that education is what ''made'' british rock mentioning other famous rockers of the 60s and early 70s, eric clapton comes to mind who attended even for a while an Art College. Seems those colleges were free in the late 50s so many working or middle class boys went in some college of art, and among that crowd several became international rock stars the biography also compares them to elvis presley, claimin than john lennon being a student even a bad one(paul's words) mattered and that he had a certain culture elvis presley who was a truck driver lacked i totally disagree i find it too ''petit bourgeois'' but even if lyrically or musically a decent education makes a difference in general, when it comes to drumming i still dont get why mentioning it i'm pretty sure there are thousands of awesome percussionists in Africa who cant write or read and have been millions for centuries...
δημήτρης αρναούτης οικονομάκης Yes it's true, Ringo was the luckiest man in the world. He was invited to be their drummer just at the moment they were making it big. Pete Best did all the hardwork for the previous 2 years and then Ringo came at the end of that period when they had just signed a recording deal with Parlophone.......it was like winning the lottery for Ringo. One minute he's an unknown drummer in a small provincial city and the next he's the most famous drummer in the world.......I'd say that's lucky. Wouldn't you? In regards to their education The Beatles were very articulate, bright young men with a smart wit and a whimsical but down to earth manner. They had a good formal education through the schooling system and a cultural and street education through the culture and streets of Liverpool and England at the time. Allan is not saying that they were any better or had a higher status than other musicians. He's simply saying that what made them different to other Liverpool musos was their personalities and that they had a better education than the average Liverpool musician at the time.
I wish all the no all's stop disrespecting Julia, saying more or less that she was a bit of a old bag, Julia wanted John back home with her , but Julia's Dad thought it was wrong that Julia was living with her boyfriend Bobby Dykins and John, and Mimi wanted John from the start. she even got in touch with social services and had him returned to Mimi at Menlove Avenue. if anyone wants the truth read. Imagine This. growing up with my brother John Lennon. I just want to say one last thing, Julia , the one and only mum of John Lennon bought him his first guitar in 1957 , Gallon one Champion 3/4 size
My reading of Pete's sacking is that George Martin was a bit dissatisfied with Pete's drumming and mentioned it to Epstein, so Epstein panicked in case they lost the recording contract and suggested to the other 3 that it might be best to let Pete go, and they agreed.
+Tungsten Kid That is completely wrong the boys asked Epstein to sack Pete best, Brian was completely against this idea however the boys had already talked about this weeks before and Brian had to do the dirty work and sack Pete best
+mark caine - I gather Pete wrote a book, hopefully his version of the sacking is in there. There are various theories flying around internetland such as the one that suggests the other 3 were envious and felt overshadowed because Pete was too handsome and too popular with screaming girl fans, so they replaced him with dull-as-dishwater Ringo.
+Rob F - they took a big risk sacking Pete, but luckily for them their songs were so bloody good that the kids went on buying their records by the truckload. The Searchers kicked out Tony Jackson (dunno why) but they weren't so lucky and went downhill fast after that.
READ NEW BOOK ON ALLAN WILLIAMS WHO DISCOVERED THE BAND AND DROVE THEM ALL THE WAY TO HAMBURG IN HIS LITTLE VAN AMAZON BOOKS THE FOOL WHO LOST THE BEATLES
Pete Best is done, or does not want to recognize why he left The Beatles !. Mr. becomes the victim for many years knowing in advance why they expelled him !!!!. "Quiet, without grace, secluded, without creative spark" very different from the personalities of their peers with open, fast minds and individual genius !!!!. In fact McCartney, has already commented on some occasions !.
It's a pathetic shame it took soooo long for The Beatles to do right by Pete Best. The Beatles could easily have helped Pete out in the 60's and 70's and/or for being a core member of the group and helping them achieve stardom.
Pete Best was the unluckiest man in history, music history, bar none. Sacked ruthlessly right on the verge of Beatlemania, it must have gutted him, would gut anyone. But, had he remained a Beatle, he might not be alive today, drugs etc, he is alive, only 3 Beatles left now, really. Goodluck to him.
John, Paul and George hatched a cunning plan to force out the most popular and talented member of the group, who also had the biggest personality, in a bid to increase their chances of success. The truth is that Pete wasn’t a Beatle and Ringo was. But he’s done alright out of it over the years. After all there’re not that many fifth Beatles around. It must have been terribly disappointing for him, but I hope that by now he has been able to move on.
Pete was drummed out because they resented his popularity. When George Martin expressed doubts about Pete recording potential, the others used it as an excuse to drop him. They obviously knew it wasn't warranted or fair; that's why they ordered Brian to fire him. One thing that Ringo fans forget is George Martin did exactly the same thing with Ringo, telling the others he wasn't good enough to record their first single. He was replaced by Andy White.
George Harrison once said " he who tells all he knows , tells more than he knows ". Allan Williams is a prime example of this. He dined out On his involvement with the Beatles ever since they made it big. For him to consider Pete was fired because of his looks is misguided. Tune Inn gives an accurate account of the Beatles story.
Agree with you. What he says about Stuart being elbowed out by Paul is more than Allan Williams knows. According to Paul in an interview some years back with a bass magazine, no one wanted to be the bass player, because they all wanted to be out front; and the bass player was always "the fat guy at the back". According to Pete Best - here and in a book he collaborated on - Stuart was fairly competent, though not as good as Paul.
I suppose George Martin was also lying when he said he didn't think Pete Best was good enough to play on their recordings. Despite all the recordings of Pete Best's mediocre playing that are here on RUclips for anyone to listen to, despite all the drummers who leave comments saying Pete Best was a lousy drummer, and despite The Beatles themselves saying Pete Best wasn't very good, these stupid fans and hangers on like Allan Williams keep peddling this urban legend that Pete Best was fired because Paul was envious of him. The thing I always wonder is, if The Beatles envied Pete Best and worried about him getting too much attention from the girls, why did they hire him in the first place? Was he an ugly guy who became handsome overnight and they suddenly found this unbearable? Or did they fail to notice that he was a strikingly handsome guy for two years and then suddenly notice it and get upset about it right before they fired him? Allan Williams' commentary seems self-serving. It looks to me like he was trying to make himself seem more intelligent than he actually was with his "that was the instant I realize they would boot him" story. I've also seen a clip here on RUclips where people who knew The Beatles said they fired Pete Best because his mother, Mona Best, was a pushy and overbearing woman who was always bothering Brian Epstein. He got tired of having her fingers in his ass so, between this and The Beatles not really liking him or his drumming, they got rid of Pete and hired a far better drummer and someone they liked as an individual.
Someone who can help .....what did he say about Ringo? ....'all have great education except for Ringo'...but Ringo................................................
True, Pete never improved and as John simply said Ringo made a better Beatle. But here's something that nobody has brought up. British bands did not want that "bum" group The Beatles in Hamburg because they were really bad. Without a drummer they couldn't go to Hamburg. Without Pete, The Beatles would not have improved and never have made the big time. Pete's a hero not a zero.
Oh dear - Paul used to pull the plug on Stuart Sutcliffe's guitar because he wanted Stuart out of the band. That won't do much for Paul's squeaky clean image! Who knew?
@wayinfront: Paul is perhaps nowaday the greatest living musician and I don't think what he did sixty years ago, when he was just a young boy, may modify his clean image
Paul McCartney, sempre foi perfeccionista, tudo não passa de lenda ,que Paul tivesse ciúmes,em relação de amizade intima. entre John e Stu armandojbarbosa@gmail.com
Armando Barbosa Paul was passive aggressive person the worst there is. It’s hard to punch someone like that in the nose since they always pose as nice people and if you are mean to them then they play victims
@Rene Aguilar - the personality defect you speak of is a precise psychiatric diagnosis and you need to know the person well to establish that diagnosis. Do you know Paul that well?
Pete, not the best you should have stayed home, practicing more like your mother told you to do instead of whining all of these years later. All my love, Ringo Star.
They may not HAVE PLAYED extensivly live BUT and remember tv was live, they PLAYED enough live that if pete PLAYED There would HAVE BEEN a noticabke difference... They wouldnt HAVE BEEN as good, they MIGHT have been taken as NOT a LIVE band just a studio band and then they would be halfway down The road of beconming The monkies....pete had to go , if your not good enough to record then your JUST mille vinilli
PETE BEST WAS THE BEST...AND BEST LOOKING....BEATLE 2YEARS IS A LONG TIME TO PLAY DRUMS WITH THE BEATLES AND THEN KICK OUT AND REPLACED BY RINGO.... SO THAT IS THE TRUE STORY I BELIEVE 🎸🎸🎸🥁
Sure, Lennon could be a bit abrasive at times but maybe it was an act to prevent anybody pigeon-holing him as a squeaky-clean pop idol. McCartney always seemed a bit mean with money; for example he went ballistic when a session musician wanted to flog one of his old guitars. More recently he tried to get Lennons name removed from some song labels, claiming that he (Mac) wrote them himself. I wish his ex Heather Mills would write a book dishing all the dirt about their marriage..;) Harrison seemed sensible at first but later went nuts and got into that Harry Krishna shit, and when he died his ashes were slung in the "sacred" river Ganges, he's a real nowhere man now. Ringo is dull as dishwater, what more can we say about him?..:)
Paul wasn't just jealous he was devious he was not only the perfect candidate for public relations if the Beatles never worked? He was a business man. I guarantee Brian Epstein pulled Paul aside first to sack Pete. Like I've said in other comments, to ingo was a great publicity decision if u get Ringo you get a rise In popularity every band in Liverpool wanted Ringo as a permanent drummer also Ringo had more versatility live and In studio but I do believe Paul has a significantly more input in sacking Pete then we know.

LOL.. True story
Really an interesting story!!. LOL.
I met him and Bob Wooler at a Beatles day in Manchester in the early 1980s. Bob was very polite but Alan's language was ripe to say the least. I think he was on his VERY best behaviour in this video!!!
He was a little half-assed as club owner and band manager but he was definitely a professional drunk.
Great video. Fantastic insight to the early Beatles. 👍

Interesting news!

Such a great comment! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
alan was afraid to expand on how once you get big you have to worship satan to keep your star status
Hey. Better to be Pete best than Not. He had a great experience and yes he was badly treated but. He was at The Birth of the second wave of Rock n Roll. He contributed to its development. That’s a great legacy.
А где же он Пит Бэст играл потом, после ухода из Beatles,???

He played...in his kitchen !
I'm so happy for Pete Best that he finally made some bread in the end.
He deserves it. He helped form the legend. He pulled the girls in, to see them, more than the others.
The girls kept coming in droves, even after Pete was booted out. Goes to show that he didn't contribute to their success.
Have you heard on audible or read 'Tune In' by mark lewison? A great and thorough look into the beatles very early yrs thru '63. It's fantastic.
Born in Liverpool, grew up in Hamburg. Nice interview.
I am agree
George Harrison should have had a credit in many of the songs..
Sorry Allan but Ringo got the Job simply because he was and still is an incredible drummer, period!!!!!
@sg-yq8pm Oh my god!!! You are so passionate about things that do not matter on the grand scale of things.
You should put your energy in to something more productive pal.
Yeah old Ringo's an underrated chap.🥁👍🏻
Pete & his family were GREAT before/during/and after the Beatles.
Pete & Roag are very cool in person.
I hope to meet Rory one day.
He received $6 or $8 Million US.
Not a bad deal...lol only took 35 years?

10:20 that’s crap, Brian was manager for a considerable length of time before they sacked Pete. And it was done because George Martin said Pete wasn’t good enough to be on the records.
George Martin said that even Ringo was not good enough to be on the records but soon after he luckily changed his mind.
They never asked Bart Simpson any questions.
Well if someone fired me like that and i can create some repercusión about it i will do it
@jamesbyersmusic
Paul was never jealous of ridiculous Pete who WAS NEVER a very handsome man !
Paul was the handsome and cute one, fact if you have eyes, loved by millions of women. Ridiculous and ordinary Pete Best didn't get over it. He is just rambling and rambling and so jealous !
And Beatles had no need of Best to be successful after he left !
Excellent
One beat Pete.
Lets just put it into perspective. There are two kinds of statements-- statements of fact and statement of opinion. WHen Alan talks about his memory of actual events that he saw, he talks about a first hand fact-- he saw it with his own eyes. " I saw them, I hear them, etc"
When he talks about stories relayed by other people, but still based on what actually happened in reality. That is a second hand fact. " I heard they, some said that.. etc"
When he talks about what he thinks is the reason for things that he is not a first hand or second hand witness, he is sharing an opinion, not a fact.
Hi
Do you know anyone who may have photos from 1968 with Alan Williams in NYC during the management event for Apple announcement? I was in and out of NYC and the Beatles lives at many times. Any behind the scene or odd pictures from 1963-1970? I didn't collect pictures. I didn't go to their jam moments. These photos would be odd to find as the pharmacy picture on Paul McCartney and No Other Baby video. The guys were just friends during my spring breaks from school. I was around when Linda was with her daughter. John was a real sweetheart, George superb friend, Ringo greatest and Paul. I believe I last was in touch right before the breakup and Yoko came into the picture.
According to this video it was George Martin who insisted that Pete Best had to be replaced.
Case closed.
I’m afraid that’s bollocks……….Pete just couldn’t keep time, he was simply a lousy drummer and not good enough for The Beatles.
I suppose you’d fucking know then?
@@guitarman1477 Yep Mr. Dicktard.

Spin around, like a whirling dervish, clockwise (yang in the northern hemisphere/yin in the southern hemisphere) or counterclockwise (yin in the northern hemisphere/yang in the southern hemisphere). Chanting these mantras(yin mantras) heal each chakra: Um like "from"(root), Am like "Tom"(sacral/solar plexus), Oom like "room"(heart), Em like "them"(throat), Om like "home"(heart/throat/pineal) and Ngm (humming with tongue on the roof of the mouth/pineal/crown). These mantras build yang in the body: Eem like "team", Im like "him" and Am like "lamb". Chant these mantras a number of times at the corresponding sound frequency for each chakra: 1,2,4,8:256hz(root),144:288hz,34:272hz,33:264hz(sacral),5,20:320hz(solar plexus),88:352hz,21:336hz,89:356hz(heart),3,12:384hz(throat), 7:448hz,13:416hz,(pineal),54:432hz(left brain), 55:440hz(right brain), 60:480hz(crown). The days of the week relate to the chakras as follows: sunday(root), monday(sacral), tuesday(solar plexus), wednesday(heart), thursday(throat), friday(pineal), saturday(crown). Sleep with the head placed east. The cardinal directions represent the 4 seasons: east(spring), south(summer), west(autumn), north(winter) in the northern hemisphere or east(spring),north(summer), west(autumn), and south(winter) in the southern hemisphere. Stare into these symbols before sleep in order: the eye of horus and its mirror image, the eye of ra, one eye at a time, 7 colored rainbow, then the torus yantra, pentacle, metatron's cube, heptagram, enneagram and then the flower of life mandala before sleep. Go for walks while breathing deeply through the mouth and nose(count your breaths based on the number of chanting repetitions for each chakra depending on the day of week). While walking also periodically touch each finger tip to the tip of the thumb and make fists(mudras). Lift weights and box a punching bag. Place coiled copper wire into the soil and grow non-gmo soy, wheat, corn, mint potatoes, regular(unfeminized) cannabis seeds(sour hebrew national, mercury rising)and papaver somniferum(7 year crop rotation). Get natto starter to make natto. Place bare feet and hands on the grass. Sunbathe or shine white LED light on skin during the day and at night use LED lights on red(sunday), orange(monday), yellow(tuesday), green(wedsnesday), blue(thursday), indigo(friday) or violet(saturday) settings and expose all skin to the light. Another helpful suggestion. From friday sunset to saturday sunset rest the sabbath which means no lighting fires(no lighters, stovetops, etc.), no physical exercise, no singing or listening to music, and no buying or selling. This will increase yin in the body for the following week. Breaking the sabbath(doing the opposite) will increase yang in the body for the following week. During the sabbath, if keeping the sabbath, wear all white clothing. If breaking the sabbath, wear all black clothing. Rotate the sleeping cardinal direction at the end of every sabbath: east, south, west, north in the northern hemisphere or east, north, west, south in the southern hemisphere. Take boswellia, neem(sparingly), cinnamon, turmeric, curcumin, nutmeg, gotu kola, schizandra, fo-ti, garlic, vitamins and minerals. Drink lemon juice, lemon balm, mint herbal teas and kefir. Drink organic caffeinated coffee, tea or cocoa in the morning(take breaks from caffeine as well). Also take n-acetyl cysteine, bromelain and nattokinase(detox). Drink baking soda in water(alkaline),brush teeth and gargle with baking soda. Gargle with peppermint, clove and cinnamon oils. Experiment with resting one different day of the week the same as the sabbath(from sundown to sundown)or every other day sabbath. Worship these:Khepri(east), Ra(south in the northern hemisphere/ north in the southern hemisphere), Atum(west), and Anubis(north in the northern hemisphere/south in the southern hemisphere). Look into Nos Confunden's terra infinita map...

I laugh when people say Pete Best got all the girls. There were 1000's of girls screaming at them and Pete took all 1000's of them? He was the drummer! Girls take the drummer as a last resort. They had hundreds of groupies.
pete best was the best looking one
Jane Hibberd
The Beatles had 1000's of groupies and they weren't screaming after Pete Best believe me
In the early days, In between sets, the girls would flock to Pete, moving right pastJ ohn and Paul.

On the other side of the coin ( so to speak ), maybe Paul's dad Jim, and MOST CERTAINLY John's aunt Mimi, wouldn't put up with these girls sloggin' about on their lawns, and told them not to hang out there
( possibly even to the point of calling up the Constables to get them off their lawns ).
As far as the " they rushed right past the others to get to Pete", that could have happened once or twice, but I don't think it was a "staple", and the only person I have heard this from is Allan Williams....'nuff said.
is that Bart Simpson in the corner?
Well I don't know if Paul was jealous of Pete's good looks or not, but I do know (in my opinion) he was some good looking young man! I can see why the girls were in love with him. I think Paul was cute too, but Pete beat him hands down.
Interesting lift from Wiki '
Jim was later present at a Beatles' concert in Manchester when fans surrounded drummer Pete Best,
and ignored the rest of The Beatles. Jim criticised Best by saying,
"Why did you have to attract all the attention? Why didn't you call the
other lads back? I think that was very selfish of you".[74] Bill Harry
recalled that Jim was probably "The Beatles' biggest fan", and was
extremely proud of Paul's success. Shelagh Johnson-later to become
director of The Beatles' Museum in Liverpool-said that Jim's outward
show of pride embarrassed his son.[75
Maggie Rae LOL
The Derek47, That is a famous story. Paul may not have been jealous of Pete, but his father Jim may have been. LOL.
It looks like a pork rind that has been run over by a truck.

they were all very well educated with the exception of Ringo he got lucky they hired only drummers with PhD :p
john and paul attended an art school for a few months and george harrison was 15
real intellectuals thats why they became rock legends because of their enormous education compared for example to The Stones or The Shadows :p
pete on the other hand had finished high school(WOOOW!) and later on worked as a civil servant plus his mother ran a rock club yeap he was a well educating lad with exceptional family background
omg what a bitter and ridiculous remark...
Btw, Paul didn't go to Art School, that was John and Stu.
paul and george went too but dropped out (its in pauls official biography) still i cant understand how a drummer may be effected by not having a formal education there are many well educated people who have studied music as well and are not successful at all and there are also many almost illeterate musicians who are studied now in universities like various jazzmen-if not bitter, i find his argument invalid and you cant really compare pete to ringo ringo has loads of recorded material and lives all these decades and has proven himself pete best was at beginners level at best when he was a ''beatle'' and since then, his music ''career'' is pretty much a joke ok you can argue what if he were a beatle when being a beatle mattered his life and music would have taken another path perhaps-or perhaps not either way, what ifs are the reason of insanity
it is what it is and its really a shame belittling THAT much the most famous (and richest) drummer of all time
δημήτρης αρναούτης οικονομάκης That's news to me. So he is not criticizing or putting Ringo down in any way shape or form.
err... he adds ''he was so lucky''...
and lets say for the shake of argument
that paul and george only attended high school
is this considered great education even for that era in Great Britain? i m pretty sure they werent the best students in the class too Paul pretty much says the same thing that education is what ''made'' british rock mentioning other famous rockers of the 60s and early 70s, eric clapton comes to mind who attended even for a while an Art College.
+Tungsten Kid - when I see videos Pete Best drumming, I understand, that they fired him. Pete was not bad, but at least the 3rd choice.
+Rob F - they took a big risk sacking Pete, but luckily for them their songs were so bloody good that the kids went on buying their records by the truckload.
The Searchers kicked out Tony Jackson (dunno why) but they weren't so lucky and went downhill fast after that.

I always liked pete's drumming.
@@ShaNaNa242 hey Al. What are you doing here? I thought you left before Pete was born. I’m glad you enjoyed His drumming.
Most talented? You must be joking. I'm not a drummer. Guitar is my instrument but I can keep better time than Pete on the drums.
@@ShaNaNa242 Well to each his own
Pete was drummed out because they resented his popularity. He was replaced by Andy White.
os 2 tiveram suas chances, porem desperdiçaram. heheheheheh
George Harrison once said " he who tells all he knows , tells more than he knows ". Allan Williams is a prime example of this. He dined out
On his involvement with the Beatles ever since they made it big.

Who knew?

Sure, Lennon could be a bit abrasive at times but maybe it was an act to prevent anybody pigeon-holing him as a squeaky-clean pop idol.
McCartney always seemed a bit mean with money; for example he went ballistic when a session musician wanted to flog one of his old guitars. More recently he tried to get Lennons name removed from some song labels, claiming that he (Mac) wrote them himself. I wish his ex Heather Mills would write a book dishing all the dirt about their marriage..;)
Harrison seemed sensible at first but later went nuts and got into that Harry Krishna shit, and when he died his ashes were slung in the "sacred" river Ganges, he's a real nowhere man now.
Ringo is dull as dishwater, what more can we say about him?..:)
also when pauls mother died I heard the first thing he said was,now what are we going to do without her money?
Paul wasn't just jealous he was devious he was not only the perfect candidate for public relations if the Beatles never worked? He was a business man. I guarantee Brian Epstein pulled Paul aside first to sack Pete. Like I've said in other comments, to ingo was a great publicity decision if u get Ringo you get a rise In popularity every band in Liverpool wanted Ringo as a permanent drummer also Ringo had more versatility live and In studio but I do believe Paul has a significantly more input in sacking Pete then we know.
