Joyce sculpts her sound creating a tangible dimension to her voice. You can feel it not only emotionally but as if it were something you could caress like leaves or dive into like an ocean...
Ich Bin Der Welt Abhanden Gekommen ''I am lost to the world with which I used to waste so much time. It has heard nothing from me for so long, That it may very well believe I am dead! It is of no consequence to me If it thinks me dead; I cannot deny it, for I really am dead to the world. I am dead to the world's tumult, And I rest in a quiet realm! I live alone in my heaven, In my love and in my song. ‘’ _________________________________________________________ These past few months of "lock down '' have helped me, perhaps, understand the lyrics better. She almost eliminated her fast vibrato which can become tiresome to the ear. A very unique and mystical voice and interpretation. I don't know who did her hair, but together with the earrings, she looks like some sort of rare tropical bird, especially on close-ups.

Very touching version. Her voice is like a violin here. And that ending gives me chills. Time stands still with these long notes.
Couldn't agree more! Exactly what I had in mind. It's floating like Mahler's violins in the orchestral version.
Fantastic performance from super talent ❤
Sublime et si touchant ❤
Why no words for the pianist. He plays so beautiful. What an amazing musician.
I love Mahler and also joyce didonato

Much as I like Joyce D and have been to see her, no one can touch Janet Baker let alone Kathleen Ferrier when it comes to Mahler and the Ruckert
Some of those chords sound almost like jazz.
Pretty well sung, but one misses the full orchestral accompaniment. Mahler's use of the crooked horn is so evocative.
JOSE VAN DAM IS THE BEST IN THIS BEAUTIFUL MALHER'S PIECE !
Also check out Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
Her voice here reminds me of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf
Ths is not to say that Di Donato is bad, but Jessye Norman was much more the right woman for this repertoire !
Much as I admire Joyce, I am afraid she doesn't touch my soul as does the version by Janet Baker in this particular work.

Oh. Says the PR consultant. Based on a profound understanding of Mahler's nuance. Very astute.
Another example of a singer who feels obliged to “interpret” the music rather than deliver what was written
Another example of a RUclips user who feels obliged to share his uncalled opinion rather than switch to the next video ;)
