I did the Sandakphu trek in the third week of October last year.I started from Mannebhanjan.I didn’t prepare for the trek and I can’t say that I’m physically in the best form as I’m 50+.I didn’t find it as difficult as I was told.I complete the trek in 4 days.
@@noproblem4329 I reached the Mannebhanjan from Darjeeling in the afternoon and looked for some guide. I hired a guide for 1200 Rs. for a day. I started my journey and reached tumling after sunset. stayed there in a home stay that cost 250 Rs. next morning I resumed my journey for kali pokhri . Spent the night there for 350 Rs for a bed. Next day proceeded for Sandakphu. Next day returned to sepi . The difficulty level of the trek is quite moderate. As you go to high altitude the cost of the accommodations and food increases. One more thing I would like to say is that try to get a group that way the fee for the guide get distributed .7 person can be in one group.
Hey could you share the details of what gears should we carry with us for the trek? Is quilt & bed sheets provided during night stays in camps & tea houses?
Absolutely! This is one of the best treks to do on your own since there are tea houses all along the way. You can start from Jaubari and do the whole trek.

Yes, it's a good time as it marks the onset of winters. You'll start to get the clear views of Kanchenjunga family. But also the temperature starts to drop at this time!
Hi Ashish, views are not foggy infact the sky is very clear during this time. Starting from the last week of September, Autumn in Sandakphu extends to November. The air is crisp, the days are sunny, and the views are clear. The rains subside and have washed away all the dust and pollution hanging in the sky. Mountain views are the best at this time. Autumn in Sandakphu is also fantastic for its golden colours, especially during the sunsets and sunrises. This is also a great time to spot the varied varieties of birds in the national park. While running is the best way to prepare, the alternative exercise will be stair climbing, as it builds your cardio and strengthens your leg muscles. However, if you prefer to cycle or swim, ensure that you add other forms of exercise which can improve your legs. Other exercises you can do with swimming or cycling 1. Skipping 2. Jumping Jacks 3. Squats All these exercises build strength in your legs, so swimming and cycling combined with these exercises can replace running.
Hi Suvidha, in winters, day time temperature will be around 8 to 12 degree and during night, temperature can drop to sub-zero levels and can go down to -3 degree. For more details, you can go through best time to do the Sandakphu trek on our trek page - indiahikes.com/sandakphu-phalut
I had an injury in my right knee, whenever I walk too much or run, it starts paining. Would you recommend I can still try? My height is 157cm and 59kg.

@@Indiahikes the inner side of the patella is where it hurts. (The left side of the right knee). It was not a ligament injury and not a bone injury, somewhere in between. I fell in a gutter with a cover with iron rods, one of the rods broke allowing the leg to slip in thigh deep. The tussle of trying to squeeze out the leg created the injury.
Frankly Sourav, this isn't a very snowy trek. But if you would really want to see snow, go in late January or early February. That's when you'll see the most snow.
Can this 5 kms in 40 mins thing be a mix of running and walking, I cannot run this much continuously but I can achieve 5kms in 40 mins with a mix of run and walk.

Can we do this trek in the month of December? Will it be green or dried up or snow?
It won't be green in December. It will be more dry and perhaps with a dusting of snow. You'll see it completely green in late March and April.

Is there any need of proper trek shoes? Or any sport shoes can be used
You will be needing a good waterproof shoe with ankle support and good grip for any trek
