20 years ago that was Pelican Island. I remember fishing with my Dad off of that pier when I was a kid. Two hotels occupied the site where the condos are, the Capri motel and a Holiday Inn. The water was about a hundred yards away from the buildings. Hurricane Fredrick destroyed those in 1979. My Mom and Dad loved that place but only went back one time after that in 1985. He said it hurt too much to see how it had changed and he never went back. I went back in 2002 and the pier extended over water but Pelican Island was creeping closer. By 2007 Pelican Island was Pelican Peninsula and the pier was high and dry. Dad passed in 2005 but I think of him when I see that pier.
It is definitely a beautiful place. I wonder if their lack of recycling services is due to the smallness of the island. I do love that there is not much going on there…it’s so relaxing once you get on the island.
I’m looking at vacationing here with my family this summer. Have you stayed at Gulf Shores? I’m trying to decide which place would be best for my family. Do you have to take a ferry to get to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach from Dauphin Island?
We’ve never stayed in Gulf Shores before…and yeah you’d need to take the ferry across. Dauphin island functions at a super slow pace…honestly there’s not a lot going on and that’s what we loved about it. Gulf shores will have more activities but a lot more people.
Great video, but I wish everyone would please stop making videos about this best-kept secret! Next thing you know it’ll be another Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. 😢
❤ thank you for the great video. We are planning a trip there.

An American gem, Dauphin Island. Love this place!
Yes! Such a hidden gem. Hopefully we can make it back soon!
Beautiful vlog
Thank you!
I love dauphin island. Who did you rent from?
Beautiful place. No recycling service to be found. That is a shame since the island depends so much on the ocean.

Try staying in both places. The USS Alabama is on that side of the bay and about 30 min North of Dauphin Island
GS is more typical tourist stuff, DA is small but has enough of why you need. I’d say DA if you’re wanting to unplug
Are there alligators there at Dauphin Island??? I’d like to take my mini schnauzer there with me when I go.

Learn to respect the wildlife please. ❤
