I'm sure it was a life experience like non other and one you'll treasure for every! Thanks for the flashback and reminder of how much fun it was to follow along from the keyboard side of things. 😀
You captured SO many beautiful shots and moments and memories for us to enjoy ! It truly is a great documentary on the AT … some serious talent and hard work . Watching this made me smile 😊. And watching “the shirt” gradually deteriorate made me laugh. Thank you ❤
You answered my questions …. I can imagine with all you preserved with your recording you could produce numerous content posting just focusing on different topics; River crossings, shelter stays, favorite creeks & waterfalls, campfire honor & stories told, Best of the off Trail Challenged…. Ice cream eating, Beat slice of pizza, gear mishaps funny & not so funny or the story behind trail names you encountered. I guess you can see I don’t want to see stop vloging . ❤😊 You explain so well the beauty & wonderful support you find within the Thur Hiker & general hiking Trail Community. ❤😊
6:08 into the video, "you'll be a bull in a china shop", made me laugh out loud for the second time. I remember commenting about it the first time and still find your delivery absolutely amazing. Great to see this video and hoping this finds you well, Ranger. Best, Jack NYC
Whoa! As I was editing this video, I heard that phrase and remembered that comment on the original vlog!! Isn’t that funny how some things just stick with you
Hi sweet Maddie! Hope all is well! My favorite part of your hiking was have seen a lovely young woman (you) enjoy the good moments in her journey, and having the strength, wisdom, and determination to overcome challenges and adversities that the journey threw at her. P.S. sometimes overcome challenges require being wise and regroup to take the challenges again another time. I'm proud of your accomplishment and proud of how much your evolve right before our eyes (maybe I shall say, your camera lenses) Whatever you do. Wherever you go, always prioritize your (and your loved one's) safety, health, and well-being. Everything else is manageable! Pops
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces some of these days, I will leave my cave and see the sun again... when the weather gets warmer, I'm going to build a camper to attach to a bicycle so I can take my furry girl on day rides. She never leaves my side. Thank you for sharing your time, thoughts, and experiences, and thanks to your folks for raising such a delightful person. Pops
Thank you! I wasn't too sure about including that part every week, because people might just want to see "action" and not a talking head. So I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Great video Ranger! I thought the same things about my thru hikes that yes, the scenery and views were super but the people I met and hiked with along the way is what made both of my thru hikes incredible. Hope you are doing well, still having great adventures and enjoying your like. Take care. Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun! geek A.T. '90 & '02 PCT '08
What a great idea. Must have been difficult to come up with just one or two favorite happenings each week. Perhaps now you could do a video of your least favorite happenings of every week. "Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder."(E.B. White). Be well, stay safe. 🥾
What a fantastic journey. Watched your original and wonderful to relive your highlights. Especially at -0 IN IDAHO. I plans in 1975 to hike th trail but I let collage get in the way. You did it !! Much to be proud of and remember always. Thank you for sharing. Best From Idaho!
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces The opportunities to resupply have drastically improved . Maps to guthook. Live hiker trail reports all make it safer but as you can attest, the AT is a major challenge and commitment . You completed the AT. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Maddie, each week memory you have a different outfit or if the same a little more worn so am I correct you did these best of the week vlogs …. You actually did them for each week … I know I just sound confused but how did you have the foresight to record them. Girl you continue to amaze me with your talent . Ranger I love you your spirit is like no other. Thank you . ❤😊 I pray you will make it to Trail Days 2025. I’m going watch this all over again when I get into bed just to end my day with a smile… ❤😊 ps…. What is secrete slack packer??
Yeah, I did record them every week on trail! It was part of the five topics I talked about when I sat down and talked for a while at the end of each week. And secret slackpacker was when we drew names out of a hat (like secret Santa) to see whose pack you’d carry to the campsite that was like 1 mile away. It wasn’t really slack packing because while you technically weren’t carrying your gear, you were carrying someone else’s!
Great video! Funny thing, we were driving to Boston from Georgia. We stayed in Pennsylvania, I knew the AT was nearby, I asked my husband to drop me off at a road crossing and pick me up a couple of miles away, so I could hike a little bit of the trail. It was a lot of fun, but as usual my sugar dropped extremely low. Your picture from week 14 of your “ flat areas” was the exact place I had to stop and consume something sugary! My husband was sitting at the Little parking area just to the left of the photo waiting, and I had to sit on that little hill until my sugar came up,😂. I could see my goal, but I couldn’t get there for about 10 minutes. The life of a diabetic, not sure how I’m gonna do on the trail next year, I know I will have lots of candy and glucose remedies available. I hope I can remember to journal like you did, I don’t want to forget all the good stuff.
Hmm are you a type 1 diabetic? I’ve been one for about 35 years. Was a very unlucky 11 year old. I honestly think that ( other than pooping in the forest ) is what’s holding me back for Hiking the AT. I live by Shenandoah NP and have day hiked the AT. Driving up each day and going home at night. Took me 8 days that including a zero day. I always carry juice, small PB. Kind bars and my doctor gave me the pen shot for an emergency. Always checking sugar before during and after depending how I’m feeling helps. Also if you are the type one a super low shot. When I was hiking in great smoky I was just doing my big shot . I honestly was disappointed when I had to go home and had to do shots again. I’d love to follow, your AT. Adventure if you end up making videos or whatever it is you might do for it. I tried to follow this one guy but he never actually mentioned anything to do with his meds or problems he was having with insulin or anything. Was why I was watching for myself. Just seeing you say you were a diabetic stood out to me. I wish you a great hike when you get out there. I know myself I’ve had sugar drop once to 28 hiking up Mount Cammerer in Great Smoky. It was a rainy day and was the longest hike I had ever done at that point. Anyways best of Luck. Dawn
@@nancysatori4744 Yeah I don’t like to be in videos either. Good luck for sure. I’m sure it will be amazing!!!!! Type 1 definitely sucks. Well if you want to be very active. Good luck on your hikes this year as well.
Hey, just recognized we were in Hapers Ferry on the same day (june18th). Finally the HF Photos for 2023 are online in the AT Museum website. Greetings from Germany, Tobi-Wan
You were one of my favorite hikers!!
Awesomeness 😊😊😊
So glad to hear that! 😊
I remember someone’s comment : I know Maddie will make it , I know Ranger will make it , but I have my doubts about the shirt making it 😅. SO FUNNY !
Oh my gosh I love that! There was holes in both shoulder and all down the back by the end!
