Based on you not even being able to name the characters you are commenting on it's evident you don't know enough of the story to have an opinion.
I'll just let you know that if you think Marta has "chosen" her husband, she absolutely hasn't simply because she has no choice to begin with. Due to the time period and country they are at she is forced to stay with her husband. If she has a choice, it's only one between jail or death and staying alive albeit unhappily. Do tell; which one would you "choose"??
