@@_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ can't be that bad. It's not in the top 10 worst states. But then again, if ur not from KC or St.Louis then....I feel sorry for u. The rest of the state is miserable
@@rockinchik06 I was just joking. I thought what I said was a somewhat appropriate response to this comment. I suppose I should have made it sound less like a cry for help
With the US, just about every place has something good and something bad about it. You just have to decide whether it's worth the trade off or not. And there's a huge difference between visiting somewhere in the US as a tourist, versus actually living and trying to make a life there.
I would argue Virginia is the most well-rounded state in the country. There are no extremes there, whether that be politics, weather, crime, cost of living, employment, geography, education, diversity, etc. It's not especially bad at anything and it's not the best at anything either (which is a good thing, since being the best often detracts from something else). Meanwhile, there are a handful of states that are the best but depends on personal preferences, which I would say are Maine, New Hampshire, Iowa, Montana, Idaho, and Utah. These states, from what I observed, seem to have the least corruption and actually care about their citizens and offer good quality of life with pretty good stats all around. Vermont and Hawaii do too, but not just anyone can live in those places.
@@Toastmaster_5000 Wait, wut?? Dude, you've picked the state with one of the highest costs of living in the nation when you say Virginia. I remember the ranking always being SF, Honolulu, and then DC or NYC as the most expensive with Fairfax County in Northern VA regularly scoring as one of the costliest. Also, the politics of the state is pretty deeply divided between that region (which is basically the DC metro area and population center) being deeply Blue while the rest of the state is rather solidly Red. It's also been said that the "Tech Corridor" along with all of the Gov't jobs makes NoVA somewhat more resistant to Unemployment than the rest of the nation. I should know, as I lived there for about 6 years - one phase in McLean/Tysons Corner, and the other in Reston. . That being said, I don't disagree with your basic statement that VA is well rounded. Just disagree with the bit about it not having any extremes.
@@tjtreks7134 Sure, the DC metro area is super expensive, but even despite that, the state isn't even in the top 10 most expensive. 9 of those states states (and DC) are exceptionally expensive to live in - pretty much everywhere else is fairly average or cheap. NY, CA, HI, and AK are the only ones getting more expensive faster than their economies can keep up with. So yeah, Virginia's cost of living isn't a problem, especially when you consider the job opportunities on either the north or south side. As for politics, I suppose you're right about that one.
@@Toastmaster_5000 So I think we're in general agreement here. I'm mostly just pointing out that yes, you can say VA in general isn't too bad, cost of living wise, (and I agree) but that's sorta saying that it's not bad except for where about 25% (?33%?) of the people live. You'd better be making a six figure income in that area, or you're going to find it tough going. Anecdote: a friend got offered a job as an airline mechanic (this was like 2014?), but they only wanted to pay (at the time) like $20/hr. Would've been really tough for him so he declined. (I think this was at Dulles?)
I definitely agree that every place has both good and bad. I've traveled to the majority of states as well as many other countries, but I choose to live in Mississippi. The video isn't wrong about the negatives here, but there are a fair amount of positives too (some even coming as a result of the negative, such as the poor economy leading to much more affordable living costs. If you can work remotely and get your income from elsewhere, that actually works out quite well for an individual... and potentially helps the state by bringing in money.) For a tourist though, there isn't a large draw here (not that the state doesn't have its beauty in spots, but with very few notable cities, about the only draw is nature, which is mostly similar to surrounding states, and history, which tends to just be presented with markers and underfunded museums.) There is, of course, also the constant stigma of lists like this convincing the rest of the world that we're all uneducated and obese... which does get quite old. Just like there is good and bad everywhere, there are intelligent people and idiots everywhere.
Alaska was the location of the second gold rush. Many people went up north to Alaska in search of gold, didn't find any, and just stayed there and lived in poverty. It was known as the last frontier, and the lack of people and tensions over gold led to a lot of violence and lawlessness. It's also stereotypically where a lot of runaways go.
No I think Georgia was the second gold rush it happen back in the 1820s while Alaska happen in 1890s the first gold rush was in North Carolina second was Georgia the Georgia gold rush come around 30 years after North Carolina and I may not be right. But Alaska do have a lot of oil
I think some parts of Arkansas are great. And as a Missourian, I don't agree that the Ozarks are more beautiful in Missouri. Arkansas Ozarks are gorgeous and have more actual mountains than Missouri
im in louisiana but my mom is only 14 years older than my brother ngjsnfkj love our education system and the way they get paid more to teach kids not to have sex instead of teaching about protection
Hey! Same lol. why the heck is that? Also Kentucky has the only moonbow in the states... that has to counts for something right? Though Ironically it's not to far from the first KFC. There's chain rock too, if I think about. ...though, knowing the existence of woodbine its hard to deny that the state sucks.

That feeling of pure relief when the state your grew up in (TN) and you state you live in (GA) somehow avoided these lists. i feel like I dodged a bullet.
@@tripski4437 It's def not a bad place to live. If my industry had work there and my husband wasn't a 'born, raised, die' Georgian, I'd probably be living there. Though, the middle class is disappearing, and there's little job diversity outside of factory work. It's growing expensive despite this. Lavergne/Smyrna/Murfreesboro area used to be a cheap place to live, but in the past decade new real estate has definitely started catering to upper-middle incomes.
@@Ashley-cj6dw yeah I live near the bedford/Marshall county area and a weird thing is happening where real estate is through the roof becuz of the sudden inflow of people but rent is still affordable? Idk, but it's good for me I guess
Let me tell you, I live in Alaska and I am saying to you all...it's Expensive in Alaska, good luck scrubbing up money to get in and to get out of Alaska. You have to be rich in order to have fun Activities to do in Alaska, and the education sucks for elementary through high school. Food and gas Expensive... You wonder why people do crime and be suicidal...our Mayor sucks... Education system sucks and so forth...there no happy people unless they are privileged or Rich... Yeah...depressing isn't it...
so sad!! ; A; Alaska is so beautiful, but I also heard about the high crime rate. I've always wondered why, but I guess now I know. I hope things look better for Alaskans in the future.
Alaskan here - can confirm most of what you said. There is still things to do if you are not rich, though. Lots of parks and bike paths to enjoy. Just bring bear spray for the bears as well as the bums.
He is. If we get to talking about the drug rate-it’s awful. Now some parts aren’t as bad as others-but being not to far from Charleston-yikes, I could go on and on.
I moved to Pittsburgh from north Central WV years ago... and honestly, It was my best choice I ever made. I love being able to see the milky way up in the hills back home.. but honestly WV just needs made into a national park. Would be better for everyone involved. We are an honest folk, stubborn and full of love. But come on WV, there's no future. You can't put coal back in the ground.... and once it's gone there's nothing but opioids and pain left.
In the "don'ts" video about the US, you wondered about the food. There are several videos on RUclips about the best foods of each of the 50 states. Your mouth will salivate looking at some of these foods, others might not sound good but there is a lot of variety. They also have the best desserts, burgers, pizza, etc. for all 50 states. It's is worth reacting to them. Also, I would be extremely careful about hitchhiking in the US. Especially now, the covid crisis coupled with the social upheaval over the police has made the US a more unsafe environment, particularly in many of the major cities. If you insist on hitchhiking, travel with 2 or 3 others.
Im from Lafayette Louisiana, and i must say "Visiting" is highly recommended. Terrible place to live, but the food, music, and general hospitality of south Louisiana is kinda unparalleled in the nation. Seriously, it's impossible to overstate how good the food and live music scene is of Louisiana, but dont wander at night or alone for sure.
Also, the little nature we have i find breathtaking. I absolutely love being on the water fishing and seeing gators, Spanish moss, and sweatin my balls off lol
Ahh Las Vegas, so many so wonderful and not so wonderful memories. I lived there for two years. It's great if you're uber rich, hate ANY moisture and you're from California? Otherwise visit, enjoy a few attractions and get out before the pick pockets get you! A lot like living in a nuked out dumpster really.
I lived most of my life in North Dakota, but moved to New Mexico five years ago. I take NM hands down over ND. We get 300 days of sunshine every year, and it rarely gets below freezing. There is so much to do for locals and visitors. Plus Netflix and Amazon have built new studios here, and NM is home to space tourism. I hope those opportunities help the state! Also, all the hot air balloons!
To help with confusion in the future: 1 US Dollar is equivalent to roughly 100 Japanese Yen, so if a price is given in USD, add two zeros to get the JPY value.
I can't believe California isn't on this list. They left out some important metrics. California is in the worst few states in cost of living, income inequality, and homelessness. I remember a report ranking them dead last in quality of life.
@@jmulvey371 no, those are statistics. I wouldn't know for certain that it is last in quality of life, I tend not to buy into that sort of thing. It is too easy to select data in something like that to reach presupposed beliefs. I used to be a data analyst. When you have a "soft" issue like quality of life, then you have to decide what data to use to make your conclusions. It is very easy to just pick categories that say what you want them to say. I probably shouldn't have included the last sentence. As far as CoL, income inequality, and homelessness, there are standard datasets used in those cases, and California is definitely on the bad end of those results.
I'm from Kentucky, despite all the negatives, I love it here. Although, temperatures fluctuate rapidly between seasons. One day its 23° celcius(75°F) and the next day it's 10° Celsius (50°F). Sometimes even lower. Onee time we had summer temperatures for 1 week and the next was literally cold enough for snow. Oh and yeah, we do have terrible healthcare. :(
As a kentuckian Northern Kentucky is awesome. If we based the state off of Northern Kentucky the state would rate in the top 20 in my opinion. It has low crime, low cost, good Healthcare, and good schools.
Agree! I thank you for this comment. It gets so tiring to see the xenophobic and biased depictions of Kentucky constantly postulated by so many. It’s good to see positive comments about our mutual state of residence.
You know, with your British accent and interest in the states you could pretty much go anywhere in the U.S. Most Japanese people don't speak proper English nearly so fluently. I know my Japanese is like a child's speech. Your fluency in English is impressive. Besides, Americans are very curious about accents (maybe because we have so many across a continent) and would guess you are from England, which is our mother country, legally you could say. We fought a war with England too, twice. 1775-1783 and the war of 1812 when we actually won against England. Weird how war can make friends of honorable countries and people. When you say you're Japanese, Americans would be shocked, impressed, and even more friendly.
So… I am born and raised in New Mexico and yes it’s beautiful here and the state slogan is the land of enchantment but locals call it the land of entrapment and it is their life long desire to move elsewhere. Schools here suck and violence here is insane (I know I work I got the trauma center) there is not a day that goes by that doesn’t have a shooting or stabbing. However that being said the international ballon fiesta is worth seeing just stay away from central
I agree wholeheartedly! Been here 50 years. The state is in financial ruin and the schools suck due to the influx of illegal immigrants and the lack of funding it used to receive from the oil and gas fields! We don't even have restaurant's with the amazing NW New Mexican food anymore! It's all from over the border and before anyone say's a thing even our old Mexican families that have been here for a very long time agree! My favorite place to eat couldn't get help because his family that he brought over refused to work because they got more benefits and money doing nothing! The schools in Arkansas were amazing compared to ours! My grandson who is Autistic is on his 5th Psychiatrist in 6 years and they have all said it is because their hands are tied in this state and can not properly treat their patients! One was by video from Tennessee for cripes sake and his present one is by contract from Texas! What was once a great place to be is now Hell!
@Perla Lopez Gomez In fact I have! I bought a 24 foot Cuddy Cabin Boat from a man in Pittsburg on ebay. I journeyed out there with my dog and we took a limo around and I went and ate at a little French restaurant downtown and my limo driver took my Phoenix, part pit, part Italian hunting hound driving around the city! She said she was the best customer she ever had! Giggle! She watched out the window and then she took her to a park on the river and she was amazed at how obedient she was. We were gone about a week I think and we had tremendous fun and quite the adventure! I have also driven through it many times as a child I grew up in Upstate NY. Pennsylvania is hands down one of the most beautiful states in the union! Also one of my horror hero's lives in Pittsburg...Tom Savini who is a special effects icon and legend. Yeah I've been to all but 11 states!
@Perla Lopez Gomez unfortunately the people in Pittsburg were oh so not nice! I did meet nice ones but for the most part they were mean as heck and I talked to a native there and they said yeah Pittsburg was like that but most of the rest of the state was not. I have no patience with ill mannered people so yeah they weren't fond of me nor I of them. I can not judge by one instance though.
Oof, the whole time I was thinking "no Tennessee please", but then I thought, really only the southwestern part is the worst part, though I've never been there myself it's just been what was told to me, but where I live (south middle, about 2 hrs under Nashville) is very decent in terms of rent is pretty cheap and doesnt have too much crime, though not many career opportunities
@@tripski4437 I would think about the race of the people telling you that southwest TN is 'the worst' it also has the largest Black population and a Black person who lives in TN will tell you it's quite nice.
I just love that you do not use foul language you appear to be a clean-cut young man that desires to learn about the world. I hope that you have a lot of success in your life. Best of luck.
I live in Alaska, Anchorage specifically. I also live in a subdivision called Foxwood in south Anchorage. That narrator just doesnt want people to live in Alaska, i can confirm that the PFD (Personal Fund Dividend) is real, last month they announced that this years PFD will be 1,114 dollars. That thing about “High Prices” is accurate for gas station stores and smaller family stores, but not if you have a Costco membership or go to Walmart. They also have a lot of oriental Japanese, Chinese and Philippine stores because of the high asian population here. Including me ( i was born in the Phillipines and was raised there for 10 years of my life before i came over to Alaska) That thing he said about crime is true for only some parts of the city, for example. If you ever want to live here, avoid any district with the name “View" they have the highest amount of crime and homeless people walking around drunk. Downtown isnt so bad as the “Views" but i do see an occasional article about someones car being stolen. Overall though, Downtown is ok. Thats all i have to say, i could say more but you probably wont see this and this might be all for nothing, but what the hell. Ill try anyway
Heck yeah my state isn't on the list you go Colorado! 🤣😂 Loved the Video by the way keep doing what you are doing and I hope that you are doing well and staying safe and healthy!
I grew up and live in Colorado! And I absolutely LOVE my state. Plus we are ranked #1 as having the lowest obesity rate because of all our outdoor activities and extreme sports. The only con about it is we have more motorbike accidents than anywhere else. People have to be careful when they come here, crazy driver’s. We also have really good healthcare. And of course this is just personal experience.
I am with you on this, albeit that does bring up how so many people move to our lovely state because it is so great compared to other places and they bring what messed up their states with them.
lmao i remember we drove to nevada for a job near las vegas coming from texas and it’s amazing that miles out when you approach las vegas at night, it’s just vast blank desert with a giant glow of light you view for a long time as you approach. it’s really surreal almost how bare nevada is outside of las vegas.
I’m surprised Michigan isn’t on there. There’s multiple murders and crimes a day in Detroit alone. I would advise anyone coming to Michigan for the first time to stay far away from Detroit. Law and order has just been given up by now because it’s so bad.
I'm so surprised that Florida, home of Florida man, swimming pool gators, and massive sinkholes didn't make the list? I live in Illinois and it's honestly not that bad. It's boring in most places and our infrastructure sucks but at least there's various free/sliding scale health clinics which is more than I can say for some states where you can count the number of clinics in the state on 1.5 hands
I've been to Arkansas a couple times just to their Diamond park so...middle of nowhere. But if you find a diamond there you get to keep it which i believe is the only park in the world where you can do that. Also glad, but surprised to not see my state on the list.
@Perla Lopez Gomez filled with tourists and overpriced items wherever you go. not to mention the terrible drivers and superiority complex some locals have.
I think one of the best things to know about the US is that the people are not rich, unlike what a lot of foreigners think. There’s a lot of poverty depending on where in the country you are.
Luckily most of the problems these states have are for residents, visiting, you won't really deal with the actual problems that people living here do; it'll be very, very obvious where you shouldn't be, just like anywhere else in the world
While it's true those states aren't great to LIVE in...visiting is different, and each one has places of historic significance that are worth seeing, especially as a lover of nature and natural wonders. Don't let this get you down; every place has hazards.
Videos to watch on your own: Yellowstone, America's Great Indian Nations, The Oregon Trail, Hernando De Soto's Conquest, Lewis and Clark, The Appalachian Trail. The Great Sand Dune National Monument, Wounded Knee, The Civil War, Bataan and Corregidor, Ellis Island, The Biltmore, Lincoln.
From Portland OREGON, the top rated food and drink city in America. When you take your trip I can give recommendations if you are hitting the Pacific Northwest
????? I honestly thought Oregon would be on this list because of Portland alone. Born and raised in Oregon and Portland as of recently has been a plague on Oregon. Even diehard Portlanders are leaving. It used to be a great place to visit and a place people wanted to be but Portland has suffered so much this last year, its unrecognizable and with no signs of getting better.
@@nicoledavis764 Lmao...Ok. Kinda histrionic, but ok. The real big cities have real big city problems, and Oregon wouldn't know anything about that. Portland is like a quaint little town that aspires to be a big city someday. But if you don't like it, you can absolutely move to the country...
I live in kentucky and it's actually really great. not as bad as people say. our natural landmarks and state parks are BEAUTIFUL, and my school district is one of the best in the region. also about the healthcare system... our university hospitals are some of the best of the country especially in regards to cancer research. all i can say is that we're nowhere near as bad as our neighboring states (specifically indiana, west virginia, and tennessee, especially in regards to covid)
As someone who has lived in Louisiana, I say don’t let that video deter you from visiting!!! There are so beautiful places in Louisiana, not just New Orleans, I lived in Lake Charles. I would say definitely be mindful of the places it mentions the crime rate.
I was born in Lake Charles and moved to Texas after hurricane Katrina. Gonna be honest, I don't remember anything special about Lake Charles. I remember It was pretty hick lol
i agree on visiting. I live in Marrero right next to lafitte and i loooove when people go on swamp tours for the first time and find out there's carpenter bees on the boat LOL
I live in Alaska and it honestly just matters where you live. I’ve lived in Fairbanks my whole life and has been pretty good. You also have to understand that Alaska is the biggest state but has clutters of small populations in villages. Generational alcoholism is also very very big (highly affects natives…my entire family suffers from it🙂) from trauma from “schools” and just different kinds of traumatizing situations that they can’t get help from. If anyone has questions from a native Alaskan please feel free to ask or I can elaborate on certain parts of my comment😁
The Flyover seldom gets much mention. I live in Missouri but At. Louis, which is on the Mississippi River, the State of Illinois is just across the river. The Great River Road, Mt. Altus, The Shawnee National Forest, The Illinois Grand Canyon, the Rend Lake Conservation Area are all beautiful scenic areas. The Chicago skyline is one of the world's great cityscapes.
Native West Virginian, yeah it sucks here. On a brighter note, the building on the right at 11:04 is where I spend literally every day. It's White Hall at West Virginia University in Morgantown and it houses our physics and astronomy department.
Louisiana Resident here🐊💚 and yes. A lot of the facts in this video are true. And all of my friends growing up always say how they want to leave as soon as they can. But none of them do, why? Our sense of community. We are good people and family and community come first. And it’s really hard for people to leave that. And people that I know that leave. Eventually come back. Needless to say we need a lot of work. But i have loved growing up here. Just for frame of reference I’m from the far far south around Houma, LA (yes LA is more than just New Orleans. And yes LA means Louisiana not Los Angeles)
"And at #7, Kentucky" Me: *raises hands and woops* ... Yeah, I knew we would be on here. We got #7 though! That's honestly a lot better than what I thought we'd get. A politician once told me (and I'm paraphrasing), "Kentucky has three types of people. The dumb ones who never leave. The smart ones who leave. And the smart ones who stay and rule over the dumb ones."
Speaking as a West Virginian, we love our state. Not the low income, of course, because the reason the people move is to find work, but those of us who stay are in love with the land and no matter how hard they try to chase us out, it isn't working because those who move out, come back, eventually. It's not easy to live here, but we're determined and we take care of each other.
As an American, I’m shocked Michigan, New York, and (especially) California we’re not on here. Great places to visit; although, terrible places to live.
Hey, I live in America and I was just as surprised about Alaska and Nevada. I mean, sure, I expected the cold to factor in, but you don't really hear about Alaska being dangerous, in that there's violent crime. Most people would say, "Um, it's dangerous because they have bears and most the state is wilderness." Also, I had several tech job offers from Arkansas which might explain why it's a growing state. Walmart, one such company that sent a job offer, has its corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, so that might have something to do with it. But Southern states being "the worst" does not surprise me, nor does West Virginia. Southern states tend to have more conservative government officials, which doesn't inherently mean lower quality of life, but they're the hard-core conservatives, that drag their feet with building infrastructure, and refuse to put any social programs in place or improve education. West Virginia is often known for its residents being "white trash" - poor white people that don't seem to "get" a lot of sensibilities that arose in urban and suburban areas. Which is a terrible thing to say about a group of people; I lived in a neighboring state for quite some time and knew several pretty normal West Virginians, but they still have a reputation for it. Being so close, I was fairly aware of some of the issues in West Virginia like the lack of an education system and lack of really good high-paying jobs. I thought this was going to be a video about worst states to visit, and I thought one of the states where I used to live would be on the list, which I'd object to. Ohio often gets a reputation for being boring, but I'd say there's stuff to do. There aren't a whole lot of natural wonders to behold as far as I'm aware, but you could at least visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and there are a few big time theme parks, so if you're big on roller coasters and thrill rides, Ohio is probably one of the better states to visit for you, and you'd save a lot of money going to one of these parks instead of going to Disney in Orlando. It is expensive to go still, but nowhere close to the ludicrous numbers that Disney has for what you'll pay to enter.
I can believe the Alaska crime. While yes, we don't really hear about crime in other states unless It makes national news. The only reason I know about it is from a Coworker who was from Alaska. The property crime is the major issue. But said coworker told me that people up there don't care. They DONT CARE. You could be a woman who's driving home with her 3 school children and if you break down and try to go to someone's house to ask for help, the owners will shoot you. They don't care. She said they will kill you , will kill your children. They don't care.
@@Melissa-wx4lu WTF....I'm a born and raised Alaskan...people don't just kill people and there children...Your co workers an idiot...Larceny is the highest crime here and most of the violence are in the villages...
Then you don’t know anything about Alaska lol! One of the issues is that it’s hard for the police to catch you in Alaska. So for example someone who murdered a person in another state will often flee to the Alaskan wilderness. It’s a huge draw for people who want to drop off the map and thus has an influx of violent criminals.
Lol if Missouri didn't make it, Kansas wouldn't but I agree. There's California and new York as well. Cost of living, taxes, crime rate, and education was the biggest source for this video I believe
Alaska is also ranked low because in the Winter in some places you might get 4 hours of sunlight for months...Someplaces Zero daylight for months..Who would want to live in darkness for half the year?
Yup Illinois is bad but not awful. Chicago is amazing (only particularly dangerous on the south side) and there are some nice smaller cities within a couple of hours from the city. Taxes are bad for everyone too, even if you don’t live near the city. Beyond that, it’s got nothing much to offer except some 5/10 hiking trails and historical sites.
Off topic but for your next video u should listen to the different ghetto speaches across the US. Its super interesting and the accents themselves is so cool
I knew NM was gonna be on there, it's a great place to visit as long as you don't leave anything in your car in the parking lot, but the schools are just the worst.
I moved from Fargo, ND to ABQ and I love it! Agree about the car thing though, always wonder why, with so much car crime, that people use their garages for storage and park outside. I think a lot of people think wherever they are from sucks though, because is me too…
@@enchantingerica282 I intentionally moved to Albuquerque, NM from Portland, OR. I am always a little weirded out by how hard locals are on NM. The things locals complain about are happening literally everywhere in the country. I can't tell you how many times I hear "Only in Albuquerque" about things that happened all the time in Portland too. For me, Albuquerque has been a much nicer place to live than Portland, which is just rapidly becoming hell if you're not rich.
I live in New Mexico and love it so much! But I do understand why it's listed on this list (and am a bit surprised it wasn't closer to #1). Crime here is bad - for example, my car got broken into/stolen/vandalized 4 times in a year and a half. It's also hard to make a good living here, and schools tend to be quite bad. However, people are currently moving into the state at very high rates, so there must be something good about it haha. In any case, the state is absolutely beautiful, it's sunny almost all the time, and there is amazing food and an unique culture. So it's definitely worth a visit! (especially during Balloon Fiesta season :)
West Virginia actually isn't that bad if you want to visit. It's absolutely gorgeous with tons of hiking trails and nice camping locations. Hospitality is also pretty good as well and people are generally nice. The only thing I would worry about is how pushy with their religion some people can be. Just smile and nod, but never give a definite yes. If you live here however, it isn't all bad. If you can manage to get a decent job then you'll be just fine. Homeschooling kids is the best option if you're concerned about the public school system. You can still do stuff if you have a car and can always drive to Pittsburgh in the neighboring state for more excitement. It's not great and poverty is pretty bad, but you can still be happy.
I live in Louisiana. I agree with all that was said. While the state has a very dark history. It does have some amazing small towns. Just keep in mind that not all small towns no matter where you go are welcoming of strangers
Crime rates are super confusing. They make some places seem much more dangerous than they are and vice versa. Some of the worst hoods in the city I live in will technically have lower crime rates than some small towns in my state, but we all know which one is really worse. Can't add crimes that no one gets caught for.
Haven't even watched yet, but going to go ahead and guess that my home state of Mississippi is on this list, probably in the Top 5, if not Number 1 because we're always at the top of these lists. EDIT: Called it! And whoever made that video has my FULL permission to fuck straight the hell off. Mississippi and Alabama are both GREAT places to call home, and even though I've never lived in Arkansas or Louisiana I'd wager they're both pretty damn nice to live in too, because I KNOW they're nice to visit.
As for those obesity rates - poverty breeds obesity. It takes money to eat good food. Poor people are more focused on just filling empty bellies with the cheapest things - usually fats and starches - they can buy.
Louisiana is quite depressing to live in except for New Orleans. Even then, the city’s charm and culture isn’t really enough to justify living in it permanently in my opinion. It’s a fun place to visit I guess with the food and unorthodox look of the uptown area (especially the French Quarter). Oh yeah, the hurricanes are super fun too
It's funny he's more worried about the food cost in Alaska than the VIOLENT criiiime. C'mon Tim lol. Honestly though, the violent crime might not be directed towards tourists though, I'd look that up.
Chicago has some bad neighborhoods, but the entire city is not dangerous. It's like any other city; it has good parts and bad parts. And yeah, people are leaving IL in droves because of the taxes.
Hello from a person born in and living in Las Vegas(which is in Nevada lol)! Another thing that the video didn't mention I think is that Nevada was ranked worst in education out of all 50 states while I was in highschool! Now I think it's 49th. There's also not much to do here if you don't have money for the Strip and the summers are unbearable(usually 100-120 F or 37-48 C I think :s). I really think it's a retiring city or a party for the weekend city, not a city to grow up in, again, unless you have money.
just sitting at 12:21, surprised that New Jersey, not only wasn't here, but wasn't even in the video. I haven't lived there, but the few people I've talked to that have, and the people who have been through NJ, all have had not a singular good thing to say about NJ. just saying, I've not heard one positive about the state, other than maybe that it was a major producer of steel for navy ships around WWII... oh, and something about chili.
We technically held hands, I too touched the bean 🥴 “Edit” the drug trade went from Cali or Oregon to anchorage causing a crime boom in the early to mid 90’s. BFG I believe , I could be wrong, and with the oil money they get yearly plus it being boring at times = drugs = addicts = crime and so on.
Chicago is fine to visit. They’re right that the rest of the state is boring. The bottom of the state is pretty though. Read the poem Chicago by Carl Sandburg. Great poem, but it truly shows the grit that is Chicago.
I live in Mississippi the people are very nice for the most part, but a lot of what is said in the video is true the state is last in a lot of categories. It's still a state worth visiting along with Louisiana
Keep in mind Alaska is a big State with a small population. There is crime here like any other state. A lot of the violent crimes are in villages. Most of the crimes in Alaska are larceny. Yes its expensive because most things have to be shipped up here. I have lived here my whole life.... never had a problem..We do get paid to live here once a year..It's still a great place to visit...
I'm from the "boring and flat" part of Illinois he is referring to. I can't disagree, but I feel like there is a resiliency that comes with living in such a place. I find midwesterners to generally be some of the nicest and most down-to-earth people in America. The video is absolutely spot on about the tax being high, the state being broke (seriously, if you have non-Illinois license plates don't speed here, the cops are thirsty for your money), and Illinois' government corruption. I wish our current governor would go to jail like Blagojevich!
As someone from Ohio who has driven through West Virginia, it really is beautiful in a lot of places with the mountains that are intact, even if every other part of it is just sad
It’s weird hearing that Alabama has the 5th worst healthcare. I live in Birmingham and we have one of the biggest and most advanced hospitals in the country. 3rd place I think. Birmingham’s drinking water is also the 3rd highest quality in the whole country. We also have Huntsville, which is the densest collection of doctorates in the country, maybe the planet! In fairness though, Alabama is a big place and I guess the rural areas bring down the average pretty hard.
I was born in Alaska and I'm sorry to say that I never want to go back. Although the scenery is absolutely beautiful and it has a large amount of wild animals compared to other states it is extremely dangerous. In many towns or cities in Alaska people may be required to keep their doors unlocked incase someone may be running from a polar bear. This usually leads to more harm than good because it makes it easier for people to break in and steal. Not only that but finding a place to stay, long term or short term, is extremely hard. A large amount of places to buy or rent don't have running water, electricity or data (especially if you are not in a big city). The house that I used to live in had running water, electricity and sewage with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, and basement (the usual american home), we sold it for 1 million dollars 10 years ago. It recently went back on the market for 3 million dollars even though it was in way worse of condition (the electricity was no longer working). This isn't always true for all of Alaska but this was my experience living there and I just wanted to share it. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me.
I’ve never been to Chicago, but my grandparents live in a different part of Illinois that is a pretty safe neighborhood. I used to visit every summer. It was a really good spot because the area was safe and it wasn’t too far from St. Louis and that area. We used to go to the St. Louis Zoo, Grants Farm, The Science Museum, and The City Museum in Missouri whenever we went. There was also a water park near by, so it was really good spot. I miss being there.
It's so refreshing to see Missouri not be on the worst lists anymore.
I was just thinking the same. KC is no longer the Meth Capital anymore. We're moving on up 😆
@@rockinchik06 I just went to KC a couple weeks ago, and saw 3 different dead birds on the sidewalk 😂

There are also more men than women there.

I agree, but your comment is completely irrelevant to this video

I can't believe California isn't on this list. They left out some important metrics. California is in the worst few states in cost of living, income inequality, and homelessness. I remember a report ranking them dead last in quality of life.
That's bullshit.

That thing about “High Prices” is accurate for gas station stores and smaller family stores, but not if you have a Costco membership or go to Walmart. They also have a lot of oriental Japanese, Chinese and Philippine stores because of the high asian population here. Including me ( i was born in the Phillipines and was raised there for 10 years of my life before i came over to Alaska)
That thing he said about crime is true for only some parts of the city, for example. Native West Virginian, yeah it sucks here. On a brighter note, the building on the right at 11:04 is where I spend literally every day. It's White Hall at West Virginia University in Morgantown and it houses our physics and astronomy department.
You would love Washington state it’s beautiful
Louisiana Resident here🐊💚 and yes. A lot of the facts in this video are true. And all of my friends growing up always say how they want to leave as soon as they can. But none of them do, why? Our sense of community. We are good people and family and community come first. And it’s really hard for people to leave that. And people that I know that leave. Eventually come back. Needless to say we need a lot of work. But i have loved growing up here. Just for frame of reference I’m from the far far south around Houma, LA (yes LA is more than just New Orleans. And yes LA means Louisiana not Los Angeles)
"And at #7, Kentucky"
Me: *raises hands and woops*
Funny how the video mentions people moving TO the states listed, yet not have the state people are moving FROM on the list.
I'm sorry your state was mentioned on the list.
@@simins2 it wasn’t
Conservatives didn't used to be so terrible about infrastructure. Heck, Nixon signed the Clean Water Act. Don't know what happened to them.
I'm surprised Kansas isn't on the list.
Beyond that, it’s got nothing much to offer except some 5/10 hiking trails and historical sites.
you should react to the top ten best cities to visit in the us
He didn't show that alabama is legal to marry your parents or siblings
Probably doesn't know if that's considered a plus or a minus there.
Off topic but for your next video u should listen to the different ghetto speaches across the US. Its super interesting and the accents themselves is so cool
i would put calli #1 just because of la
love your videos you should watch 10 best states to move to
I knew NM was gonna be on there, it's a great place to visit as long as you don't leave anything in your car in the parking lot, but the schools are just the worst.
Agree but I loved it when I used to live just outside the city limits of Albuquerque. I live in Albuquerque now and hate it.
Can't believe what happened to your car ...
You must not live in Santa FE, when I lived there it was colder than a witches tit and snowd from November to March.....Not always SUnny for sure
As an Illinoisan, I can testify that we should be #1
yes
Next stop the islands of Greece Tim !!! Its summer time ! 😉☺
Kentucky: Gets on this list
Me: :O
Also me: wE dOnT hAvE cOuNtRy AcCeNtS (well at least not all of us) *sobs in city girl*
Me living in Alaska: yes, the crime is high and many things are expensive, the safest and cheapest 3 cities are Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage.
That video clip of the Ozarks showing the ruins by the lake is in Camdenton, Missouri. I've been there, it's a nice hiking trail
The original video has some value but over simplifies a lot and colors the states too broadly. Each state has excellent aspects.
We technically held hands, I too touched the bean 🥴
“Edit” the drug trade went from Cali or Oregon to anchorage causing a crime boom in the early to mid 90’s. BFG I believe , I could be wrong, and with the oil money they get yearly plus it being boring at times = drugs = addicts = crime and so on.
Also the reason Alaska is the second most dangerous state is that it's the most remote state, lots of hardy frontiersman out there
Chicago is fine to visit.
Arkansas UP NORTH IN OZARKS IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS....
Alaska has really good views but NO ROADS TO GET THERE. expect to have to hike in back country if you wanna stay more than a week.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me.
very interesting and good to know ! Thank you so much 👍🏻
You should react to Accent Expert Gives a Tour of U.S. Accents - (Part One) | WIRED. It covers the different American accent and it’s amazing.
Michigan didn't make the list! I'm not sure if it ever has actually, but its nice to know lol. I love the mitten
Eureka springs in Arkansas is a beautiful place to visit if you stay at the haunted hotel, and want to visit/hike to I think 4-5 natural springs.
I’m in Pennsylvania & we have a massive taxation problem too & NOTHING to show for it😕
Had a person come back and told me we are nicest people in Oklahoma
The People's Republic of Massachusetts welcomes all visitors with money to spend! We celebrate the fact that the party was not named on the list.
I hope you don’t avoid these states based on these videos. If these states didnt have promising attributes, no-one would live in them.
And chicago is a great city.
The city would be the worst for crime, but living in the country would be fine.
