Lord Rossendale: ''Uniform fits like a ball of wax but those boots won't do'' Major Sharpe: ''They did very well for a Colonel of Napoleon's Imperial Guard I had to kill before he give em to me'' - Priceless!! :)
when you watch these episodes years later it`s amazing who had some of there first acting jobs in sharpe, in this episode it`s that bloke off pointless, and in sharpes justice it`s james bond, and gene off life on mars.
so i don`t think i can ever put into words my love for this episode, and although i bought a job lot of his previous adventures on video back in the 90`s, i either was out when they came on tv, or i at least don`t remember watching them more than once, and this was probably back in the day when i probably didn`t have cable, and possibly didn`t really record it on video or sky or whatever, and at least for me this episode and the following couple of episodes right until waterloo, was when i was especially watching sharpe, and then sometime later i even started to read the books as well, and although it`s true that you really understand even more of what`s going on in the story by reading a book rather than watching it on tv, and off course i really got into the books, and even now i bought the latest sharpe book last christmas, it was the tv episodes that really got me, and for once they do seemed to have spent at least a bit more money on this episode than possibly some others what with the amount of extras in this episode, but me being a bit obsessed by this amazing television series let alone hornblower, i do have questions, what exactly was wrote on the piece of paper that give`s sharpe permission to go home, and is it also signed by wellington, and didn`t someone tell chelmsford barracks that sharpe`s on his was, and giving probably how famous sharpe is especially after that french eagle, let alone being best mates with the prince of wales surely his likeness is in all the papers etc, let alone havercamp does seem to keep mentioning his name at every opportunity his get`s, and apparently he`s possibly been home before, and surly horse guards would tell someone sharpe`s in the country, and off course it isn`t long before someone try`s to murder him, and sharpe being a major although he`s carlin`s boss, and he`s got a piece of paper saying your duty is to help me etc, at least some times in this episode you perhaps do have to wonder at least at times is he at least possibly over stepping the mark a little bit with his authority, especially how he treats girdwood at foulness, takes command, and then takes the men to the barracks and off course marches them half way around the country.
@tSp289 actually, George III had no symptoms of the illness till after the revolution; and his actions on close inspection during that war were pretty normal for an 18th century Monarch. it helped that his ministers weren't much better. but yeah, I do wonder myself what'd have happened had he not lost it.
thats what i love about repeats of this series spotting all the people who were yet to be famous or whatever, elizabeth hurley, pointless bloke, james bond bloke, life on mars bloke, my hero bloke, not going out lady,
Actually I know that George III was well liked in Britain and contrary to popular belief he was not a tyrant , it was Parliament that was doing the taxing
Napoleon, Cromwell, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Xi, Trump. You either put an idiot with no real power on top a figure for the Plebs which also keeps the snakes that we call politicians from thinking about seizing absolute power or risk the rise of the ambitious maniacs to seize and define the role themselves! British constitutional Monarchy is the longest continual form of Government without dictator or revolution in modern history.
The Prince of Wales sat upon a wall, the Prince of Wales had a great fall, and all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put poor 'ol Prinny back together again.

''The uniform fits like a ball of wax, but those boots won't do...'' '' they did very well for a Colonel of Napoleons Imperial Guard i had to kill before he give em to me'' ahahaa brilliant, would that be Colonel Laroux by any chance? LOL
ya I thought he looked rather young to be George III, we should have really waited until he was king to declare independence, it would have been a lot easier
Hey, ITV is a privately owned TV coperation, the BBC is owned by government, we pay for it through the tv licence which everyone has to pay to watch live tv. BBC never has advertisements because of this, while other channels do. there were 5 channels until digital, channel 1and 2 by BBC and 3 is ITV1 4 is just channel 4 and 5 channel 5, they own loads of channels on digital now, I.E Five has Five life, Five US, 4 has E4 and there is loads of other channels aswell
Sad times when Britain back then had a leader like the Prince Regent against the genius of Napoleon...... our soldiers should have thrown down their muskets
He certainly wasn't the best HOS we have had, and he was known to be dissolute, however at no point did he have delusions of having fought at Talavera. Regardless, I do love his portrayal in Sharpe, his demeanor in terms of how polite he is you just can't help but like :)
Constitutional Monarch who is a bit of a twat or a vehemently anti-British dictator? Yeah, probably for the best that they didn't "throw down their muskets" or we'd be living in a Francophone nightmare. God Save Wellington
Lord Rossendale: ''Uniform fits like a ball of wax but those boots won't do'' Major Sharpe: ''They did very well for a Colonel of Napoleon's Imperial Guard I had to kill before he give em to me'' - Priceless!! :)
"not missing, just hiding in the paperwork"
I love this man :P!
This one's actually one of my favourites. It's a welcome change from the same ol' French battlefield.
Everytime I see the Prince Im waiting for Baldrick to show up and say " I've got a cunning plan "
I love the joke of having the Prince believe he was at the battle because the actor portrayed an officer at the battle in the first movie.
and then went on to create Downtown Abbey.😊
@@WClarkson julian fellowes
That is a funny coincidence, but the Prince also believed he was at the battle in the novel. He was rather "eccentric".

This is about the state of the current British army - about 14 blokes.. May as well have muskets as well.
A musket would probably be more reliable than an L85
@@CommiTsunami The Hackler and Koch fixed them, still not the best combat rifle on the planet though
Prince regent is one of my favourite characters of the series
I had the odd impulse to pray for Sharpe as he walked toward the Prince Regent...forgot it was tv show for a moment...
when you watch these episodes years later it`s amazing who had some of there first acting jobs in sharpe, in this episode it`s that bloke off pointless, and in sharpes justice it`s james bond, and gene off life on mars.
Alexander Armstrong! Ha!
And Major Dunnet promoted to the Throne via Downton :-D
LMAO DUDE!! I thought he looked so familiar!!!hahahahahah that’s the same guy who played Major Dunnet in Sharpe’s Rifles.
So disappointed that they didn't cast Hugh Laurie as prince regen
he isn't thick enough
saying 'eh?' to the prince regent.
Now that's soldiering.

Ah yes the episode with Sharpe's very own Vietnam flashback
I love how he's supposed to call the prince "your royal highness" but he just calls him "Sir" and the prince just rolls with it.
And the snakes, slithering away from the flames!
Wellington certainly would have derived great amusement at seeing Sharpe speak to the Prince Regent!
@tSp289

I love how they showed the king as being insane at this point
0.30 Thats Alexander Armstrong, from the Armstrong and Miller show lol!

Her is a fact for you all: Major Dunnet (Sharpe's Rifles) is the same actor portraying The Prince Regent... Julian Fellows I believe...
thankyou so much i have been surching for this song for over a year
Actually I know that George III was well liked in Britain and contrary to popular belief he was not a tyrant , it was Parliament that was doing the taxing
3:14 among other emotions, he's probably pissed.
For that eagle belongs to Major Lennox. Not here.
3:06 favourite moment
3:28 is there really a better argument against monarchy?
Napoleon, Cromwell, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Xi, Trump.

British constitutional Monarchy is the longest continual form of Government without dictator or revolution in modern history.
That was the Prince Regent. Later became George IV.
you do seemed to have missed out a part of the episode in this clip.
Three cheers for the Prince of Wales.
By the end I had changed my mind! It's one of my favorites too. That's the risk in pronouncing an opinion before the story is over.
If anybody ever drew from the character Humpty Dumpty...it has to be the Prince of Wales in this series.
Love it.
Love the PTSD moment!
I think it is not George III but the Prince Regent his son.
The Prince of Wales sat upon a wall, the Prince of Wales had a great fall, and all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put poor 'ol Prinny back together again.
Tune is Mrs. Mc Leod's Reel, often followed by Deil Amang the Tailors.
Now at least he knows who he has been fighting for all along!
I wonder if that invite Lord Rossendale delivered was pointless?..
Who is the guy playing as the messenger and the guy instructing Sharpe on royal procedure? He looks familiar.
Prince Regent reminds me of Humpty Dumpty :O
Actually, I do believe he nicks Leroux's boots as well as his old ones were stolen whilst hospitalized after Leroux shot him with his dueling pistol
He thinks he was there, let him. 😂😂😂😂
For a rag on a high pole, king, Wellington etc. If one thing doesn't convince, they make new things
@WhiskeyMikeNinerTwo Yes he is and the Character is Lord Rossendale
Wheyy is that thingy from armstrong and miller?
"What are you?" ... "Truth to tell I'm not quite sure" haha
Haha this King- or a prince - whatever u want him to be - is kinda funny and crazy xD Poor Richard :D
@tenirpaslager isn't the prince regent, is the king right?gerge III?
Can someone tell me the name of the tune in the war flashback
@tenirpaslager i know that the king was mad so i tought that the king was he, and his son do you mean george IV not george II right?
@MateusVIII nah its the prince regent the king by this time was suffering from madness
so wait half the regiment was stationed in spain, while the other half was stationed back in england?
898792 no the first battalion is in Spain, the second battalion is a training battalion they train and recruit people to reinforce the first when they suffer losses in battle
Is that dragoon around 1:00 Alexander Armstrong?
He also appeared in Black Adder 3
Oh love this one! :) Poor old Sharpe 'ay'
Of course the Prince was there, it was his bloody army…
I think Alexander Armstrong was meant to be Lord Rossendale.
Does anybody know what is the music playing from 6:25 to 7:10?
Prince Regent reminds me of Humpty Dumpty!
Ha ha, right
sharpe should have asked the prince regent to promote him to colonel haha
Get some, Sharpe!
About time Sharpe got laid. It's been at least 4 episodes and he's had ample chances...
'He thinks he was there...let him.'
*Sigh...*
howd ya do!
...eh?
The hiding in the paperwork statement continues in British industry today 🙄
George IV looks like Frank N Furter from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

TYVM!
Armstrong has been playing the same character ever since.......
oh yeagh
He was too ful of himself.
He hated Nelson for having more decorations than him.

ya I thought he looked rather young to be George III, we should have really waited until he was king to declare independence, it would have been a lot easier
was George III actually like that? Cause if he was I see why we (Americans) wanted independence so much. I assume he wasn't actually.
George the IV of the United Kingdom, ladies and gentlemen.
What happened to King George the 3rd?
2:35 :I wonder how many takes it took to get that right! XD

@tenirpaslager but the prince or king is acting like a mad
Lol Alexander Armstrong as that dragoon at 0:35

Truth to tell I'm not quite sure.

lol its armstrong!
Well now i know why the colonies wanted to break from british control...
"call him Dick, call him Dick!"
"CALL HIM DICK!!!""CALL HIM DICK!!!"
Im Sorry, but who is this goofy lord guy tha Sharpe is talking with that thinks he was at the battle when he was not?
Oh and was the prince regent really that much of an idiot in real life? I thought that was only in Blackadder.
@tenirpaslager A bit like Forrest Gump.
"Eh?"
@Blackeneer Prince of Wales
EH!!!
lol "look sharpe" haha
Sad times when Britain back then had a leader like the Prince Regent against the genius of Napoleon...... our soldiers should have thrown down their muskets
Napoleon wasn't going up against the Prince Regent, he was going up against Wellington. The best offensive general against the best defensive general.
I know? But as head of state....
